I changed my fonts to extra large on both my iPad and my iPhone. It works on my iPad but only worked one time on my iPhone. I went and checked and my minimum font size was still extra large on my iPhone. What am I doing wrong?

Harry,

In this case I was dragging the backup files out of the trash bin and
all over the place so I don't know whether I had any good ones. I have
two groups of backups, one was an old and very large set, the other was
from when I started using my Mac again. It looks like the newer group is
what is being used now.

Howdy.

Jim, your message doesn't have enough information to make the problems
clear to people who want to help.

Specifically where is "apps have such tiny text on app labels."

Do you mean the application file names are too small in a Finder
window? If so, make the text larger which you can do in Show View Info
for that window.

What do you mean by an "upgrade only disk?" Which disk?

If you can't delete Trash, then restart in Safe Disk mode by pressing
the Shift key, then empty Trash, then restart.

Dan,

I'm talking about thke tiny text that doesn't chane when I choose
View>Font sizes.
I call them labels because they look almost like they are painted on.
For example in R=Text Editor the label on the button for changing the
text font. Or in Finder, the file name labels that show file name etc.
That seems to be unchangeable. It strains my old eyes just to look at
them and often I just can't read them. Right now I am at rez. 1024 x 758
just to be able to read the labels. I couldn't think of a more
description than label.

The SL install disk, it doesn't say upgrade only, so I assumed that it
would reinstall the SL [snow leopard]. It erred out saying something
about my needing something with a number like 23 maybe with a dp.

None of the replies suggested that, nor did the Mac 'tech' I talked to

I agree with Dan, your terminology is neither Mac, nor Windows, and we're having a heck of a hard time trying to figure out what you are trying to describe.

Now the Mac vocabulary is a little different from the Windows vocabulary, but there are enough people here that have used both.

See my previous suggestion to change the font size in Finder with command + j.

When you say Mac 'tech' are you saying and independent or one of the Genius behind the Genius Bar at an Apple Retail Store? And did you bring in your Mac Pro or did you just describe it to them?

I'm sorry to hear of your problems with iTunes. I've had a small amount of re-buffering now and then, all on radio stations. So far I'm not having issues with playing songs in my library. I haven't noticed this issue while poking around in the iTunes Store.

I'm sorry you're having these problems, and hope Apple will get things fixed quickly!

I've been reluctant to "upgrade" my iTunes. I'm still running 10.5.2. I heard a folks where having issues with later versions, so I've stuck with the one I'm using.

I have to wonder if at some point I will run into problems syncing my iPad and accessing other iTunes-related apps and programs if I don't update my iTunes. BTW, I'm still running 10.6.8 on my iMac....refuse to upgrade at this time.

You could end up not being able to upgrade you iPhone and/or iPad iOS at
some point. As newer versions of iOS are released they tend to require
newer versions of iTunes.

a bit off topic

This isn't really a Mac-only question, so if it's out of order, plz forgive me. Everyone on Facebook knows it's changing the format of everyone's pages whether they want it or not. Most people I know HATE the new format. It's hard to read and find info, it seems that things previously there are no longer there, comments seem to be missing, etc.

Is there ANY way to avoid having this new format forced onto our pages?

OK, still feeling dumb about my new Mini. When I open Safari, it fills my screen, top to bottom, side to side. I can't figure how to make it smaller. And the menu at the top only shows sometimes and I don't know what I do to make it show when it does show. So, I can't Bookmark things, etc., because those images aren't there. Help!!

You've got it in Full-Screen mode.
Move the cursor to the top of the screen.
The menu-bar will appear

If you want to use it in full-screen mode, and access the menus that way, leave it alone.

If you want to return ot "normal" mode, when you have the cursor at the top of the screen and the menubar appears, you will see, off on the right edge, a blue icon with 2 arrows on a diagonal, pointing at each other. Click on that.

I have no idea whether what I'm about to say is correct or not, but remember for a moment that despite Apple's hoard of cash and current "top of the heap" position, most "cross platform" 3rd party products (printers, cameras, scanners, etc., come with software that Includes Mac versions almost as an afterthought, and many of the "Mac" manuals for those products contain stuff that's totally irrelevant for the Mac (such as telling you to hit F1 for help, or pressing the PRNTSCRN key, etc.

In the Windows world, many apps are 32-bit only or 64-bit only and trying to run a 32-bit app in the 64-bit OS just won't fly (and vice versa). The advice you've read may not be at all relevant to your situation.

I wouldn't go so far as to say 'most' at this point. I've had good luck
with 3rd party hardware and drivers for my scanner (Epson) and printer
(HP). The printer supports Airprint, as do most current HP products.
Epson has long included support for Apple hardware/software combos in
their scanners. I recall a scanner I bought after Firewire was
released, supported it, an Epson scanner. I was surprised to see them
incorporate this so early in the game. I don't have that scanner any
longer, but it was an $800 photo scanner and worked really well. I have
an old HP printer (cheapie), I think it's an F something. The drivers
from HP support the 64 bit environment. As soon as I connected it, the
64 bit driver was offered in Software Update. I was surprised to say
the least.

I think as time goes on, more and more holdouts as far as 3rd party
manufacturers go, are focusing on Apple support.

I think that most folks that have older hardware here may assume that NO
support exists for Apple product. That's just not true anymore!

If the email account is set up as POP is can be read by any device that has the email app set up for it.

If the email account is set up as IMAP, it will be received by any device that has the email app set up for it, UNTIL...
it is moved or deleted by another device that is also receiving it.

I can receive my email on my MBP, 2 G4s and my iPhone. Most of my accounts are POP, but my mac.com account is IMAP. And what I described about the IMAP accounts is what I see daily on my iPhone and MBP.

If all of the email is not reaching Louise's Mini, then don't start the email app on the G4, let them go to the Mini.

Jim,

AirPort is just Apple's name for wifi (802.11b/g/n) and any Mac with an
AirPort card should work with any wifi router. For instance, our Macs work
perfectly with a Belkin wifi router. All you need to do is select the
network under AirPort in the top menu bar, choose the encryption (WEP, WPA,
or WPA2), and supply the password. If you don't have AirPort in the menu
bar, you can do this in System Preferences > Network.

Jim, are you saying that when you open a new window anywhere in Finder, that the fonts are too small?

If so, type command + j, or go to View in the Menu Bar at the top of the screen and scroll down to Show View Options. This will bring up a small window. Change to a larger font size.

That or go down to a smaller screen resolution.
