Howdy.

I liked Eudora, too, but unfortunately it's Eudora that has the cold
dead hands.

Thanks for the Command Codes on behalf of the original poster. I used
to use them years ago.

Thanks too. I reformatted it into a table with 2 columns. I still use Eudora with 10.6.8 without few problems. Nothing else I have tried satisfies.

Hi Rob,

I'm in the same boat. Though I might upgrade? a partition to cope with ML.

Cheers, James

How do I find local IP addresses of various network devices? Netstat does not give info, eg computer, iOS device or printer names. Can anyone suggest aprogram that does. Or a terminal command.

TIA,

Bill

I use a simple program called iNet that works well. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/inet/id403304796?mt=12

Thanks for the suggestions, Randy and Dan. Since you both agree, that is the one I just purchased.

Randy, I too have been looking at getting a UPS, but I see with your recommendation that it has an accompanying CD and the ad seems to indicate it is for Windows only? Do you know if the software can indeed be installed on a Mac?

Nick,

Many UPS use the software built into the Mac OS. Here is the information for the software from a slightly different CyberPower model:

"Apple's 'Energy Saver' power management software has the capability of reducing the energy consumption of UPS devices. CyberPower UPS systems that feature a HID compliant USB port are 100% compatible with Apple's 'Energy Saver' software. Find out how to best configure your device with Apple's Energy Saver here."

One of the "key features" they promote on that page is, "Software to Download". At least this manufacture mentions this for their product.

Excellent Brent... Thank you very much for the link. I have just ordered off of Amazon the very model that Randy was referring to.

UPS's are more or less platform agnostic.

With regard to software for automated shutdown when there is a power outage, that is already built into OS X. So you don't need the software that comes on the CD with any UPS.

Hi,

I am about to upgrade my OS from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Should I unplug my Time Machine external HD before I do this?

I have run Disk Utility, and tossed out old files. Any precautions I should take before jumping in?

TIA

Dan (and Jim),
It appears that I have everything set up as you all have suggested and as I understand it.
I am the administrator of the iMac and one of the two people on the Mini is the administrator.
When using the Mini, the iMac is in the sidebar of the Finder under Shared. Clicking on the iMac brings it up in the next column, but almost immediately the "Connection Failed" notice comes up.
Don't know what the problem is but I'll keep dickering around with it. It will probably turn out to be an aha moment, interpret: operator error.
Thanks for the advice and have a great day.
- Jim
