Help!

Why can't I put something in my 'Trash' any more? (file, folder, etc.)
Or select a file and use 'command>delete'?

When I do, I get a dialog box that says, "are you sure you want to delete <filename>. This item will be deleted immediately. You can't undo this action."

I can't find a Preference (either Finder Preferences or System Preferences) to change things back they way it has always been?

What did I do?

Where are you doing this? You get this response if there's no Trash folder
available.

Sounds like you're trying to delete something from an external drive. That's the way it works.

Hi,

> Sounds like you're trying to delete something from an external drive. That's the way it works.

Depends on what you mean by external. An external USB/firewire/thunderbolt drive should still have a trash can, just like an internal drive. If the external drive is a network share though (AFP) then yes, there is no trash and deletion is absolute.

So It depends... Please provide more details on what you are deleting and from what drives.

Yes. This is the message one gets when deleting something from a mounted network drive or folder from a network drive.

I have 2 mini's, a 2006 and a 2011. The newer one, of course, has no optical drive; the older one, a Superdrive.

I knew I could share the older mini's optical drive with the other mine, but not a DVD movie disc (see Note halfway down this Apple Support Document):

<http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5287?viewlocale=en_US>

Lo and behold! Using VLC video player in the newer mini I can specify the DVD movie disc in the other mini and it plays as if it were an internal drive.

Sometimes those documents are not quite so exacting...

Howdy.

It's called Auto-Correction.

Try this:

Tap Settings > General, then pick Keyboard.

Slide to set Check Spelling & Auto Correction off or on.

- - - - -

To accept a suggested spelling correction just keep typing.

To reject a suggested spelling correction tap the little "X."

You can also turn on a 2nd or 3rd keyboard and associated spelling.
For example, you can turn on an Italian keyboard or an Emoji keyboard
and then switch between them.

And when Auto Correct, or Type Ahead, gets your real flustered, try
this:

Howdy.

Mr. X is having a problem with both iTunes app updates and also
received some kind of error message about "violating guidelines" when
he tried to post to MacSupportCenteral.

He asked me to post this message for him.

- - - - -

Hey Guys:

I am having trouble updating my apps using iTunes on my MacBook Pro.
iTunes shows several apps that need updating, but when I click on
"Download All Free Updates", it gives me this error message:

"There was a problem downloading <name of the app. An unknown error
occurred (-50). Please check that the connection to the network is
active and try again."

The network is working okay. I can get into my account with iTunes
and all is fine. I am able to update all my apps using the iPhone5.
All my software is up to date.

Any suggestions as to what this may be causing this?

No idea, but if he syncs the phone with iTunes, all the updated apps will
be backed up to iTunes and they will no longer need updating.

Perhaps we could see more detail about "violating guidelines"? I don't
remember anyone having that happen before.

Trashed Quake3 Arena tonite. Played for 20+ years.
Can't handle spawns behind me at 62 any longer.
Fraggin' in the arenas is over. There are others, but
not as maddening. Must surrender my desire to place
first. Want to forget that dang Rail Gun ever existed.

Nerves will begin to heal. Sun will rise tommorrw.

But I have Time Machine backups.
Sheesh, the horror.

Don't go back, move on brave soldier. You will never have to ask again "they must be cheating, no one could move that fast". That was a fun game.
