I have a 80g Classic I hadn't used in a while. I connected it to my iMac iTunes and it showed the battery was dead. I left it to charge several hours and it did completely. Then iTunes told me there was something wrong with this iPod and I had to restore it...so I did. As a result, everything was wiped off and iTunes does not recognize it all. Not even as an iPod. YUK!!! Finder does recognize it as an "iPod" with eject button which I used. All I want on it is music. I use it with a sound system. Is it gone forever? Is there anyway I can get the music back on it?

Thanks for your help, LOVE this group!!!

if you backed it up before you restored it that would have been helpful
did you?

It wouldn't back up. after the battery charged, iTunes only recognized it as an "iPod". No name, no data. I think it just said. Problem, restore. Then when I did restore, iTunes wouldn't recognize it at all.

This has worked for me using a Mac:

Connect your iPod and open iTunes (if it doesn't already auto-launch).

Go to the iPod's summary page and click on "put this iPod into drive mode", then click the "APPLY" button.

Now launch Disk Utility.

Find your iPod in the list of drives displayed on the left sidebar. Click on it and select "Verify" from the list of options. Disk Utility will generate a log indicating the status of each diagnostic protocol it executes and will alert you to any problems.

If any problems are found, click on "Repair" from the list of options. When the repair process successfully concludes, repeat the "Verify" process.

If no further errors/problems are found, eject your iPod and try it in iTunes again.
