Gurus (Otto?)

I have 2 copies of Safari also. The one is dated Sept 25, 2012 (2 days
after the old library folder) and is labeled: "safari.old" which I think is
the name the tech gave it, when he was fiddling around and trying to help
me get youtube to load and run.

Can I rid myself of that, the way I did the old library folder?

Thanks again

hester

Yes. It seems the techie was copying/renaming stuff so he could easily
revert if required. This didn't happen and you've been using the newer
version since then. You can confirm this by looking at the dates for your
"live" Safari.

Of course, you have backups of all this somewhere? ;)

I'm just guessing…when the "save as" window appears, look somewhere around the area where the files are listed and see if you find a small black arrow pointing to the right. If so, click on it to make it point down. This will cause an expanded directory to appear, allowing you to navigate to where you want to save the file.

You might find this book really helpful:

Office 2011 for Mac All-in-One For Dummies ($20)
http://www.amazon.com/Office-2011-All-Dummies-Computer/dp/0470903716

And this video training might be useful:

MICROSOFT WORD 2011 FOR MAC ($19)

Use the Option key + the arrow keys for this.

Perhaps this from a MacMost page will help:

The Home, End, Page Up and Page Down keys are usually accessible by some combination of the "fn" key and the arrow keys. But I think it depends on the version of OS X, the keyboard and the software application itself.
I tried it and was able to simulate Home and End keys with fn+Command+right arrow and fn+Command+left arrow.
In situations like this it is always easy to experiment. Try different key combinations that seem to make logical sense and you'll usually find it, if it exists at all.

Hi Jennifer,

Welcome to the group and the other side of computing.

Everyone seems to forget (or possibly doesn't know) but there are heaps of FREE tutorials on the Apple web site to help you get started.

Almost all of them can be accessed from www.apple.com/findouthow/

Not so much specifically related to Office 2011, but more about the basics of OS X & your new Mac hardware.

My first question is.when I try to save a document - I have a subfolder under Documents for my office (I work on my own laptop because my office allows me to telecommute a lot!). When in a document I go to "Save As" and then my choices are not broken down to allow me to find subfolders under the main "Documents" folder. Is there a way to change that so I can go to all of the subfolders under "Documents"?

I did find that Cmd and arrow left or arrow right will take me to the beginning or end of a line but now I just want to figure out how to go word by word. Is this possible?

Hi Jennifer,

Here is a link to the different keyboard layouts and their equivalent key.

On a MackBook, the Home key is equivalent to fn+, I think!

And also, here's a list of OS X keyboard shortcuts.

You can copy/paste this into a file for quick reference, or download my
version.

I am acting as an interlocutor, if you will, between two people, neither of whom speaks the other language. The female (whom I know) lives in Austria and speaks Hungarian (mostly).

The male (whom I don know) lives in Massachusetts (supposedly) and speaks English (which may or may not be his native language). His email to me was syntactically deficient.

The two met online.

Based on an email response to me, I suspect that the male is not what and who he purports to be. I would like to do some sniffing around.

I use Apple Mail (Version 4.6). I have some familiarity with headers, both open and closed. Is there some way that I can use IP addresses (or other features) to track the location of the male? He says that he lives in Boston, however I am (currently) dubious.

Thanx and greets from Budapest. Oneal
