A scanner is required on the wifi network. It could be anywhere, even your friends house in the neighourhood.
In any case, if you wish to scan a card (or document) there has to be a scanner. Else , take image by the camera.

Question about iCloud
Posted by: "Wayne & Janet Brunner" wajabrun@nelson-tel.net janetsbrunner
Fri Mar 2, 2012 5:30 am (PST)
Hello Folks,
My son is currently deployed in Asia. He lost his iPhone last week. He
reached an area where there is WiFi now, and when he turned on his iPad his
photos from his phone started to download into his iPad. It's taking
awhile, but they are showing up one by one.
We will get a replacement phone for him, plug it into his iTunes account,
set it up, then send it to him in Okinawa. He has not plugged either his
phone or his iPad into a computer (iTunes) since he got them.
Can anyone tell me what will happen when we plug his phone into iTunes?
Will it restore to where it was when he plugged it in last time? Or will it
restore to where it was when he lost his phone?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Did you have your iCloud on? Was it on on the phone? If yes then get find
my phone app and logi. With your id and password. You'll know where it is.
You would also be able to send an alarm and also remote wipe the device.

Yes he had iCloud on, but he didn't have "find my phone" on. We had the phone suspended.

It depends. If he had set backup to this computer or set backup to iCloud. If he set backup to this computer, what will be restored is what was on the phone when he last plugged into your computer. If he had set to backup to iCloud then what would be backed up is what was on his phone at the time of this last data connection. Note that to get the iCloud backup, you don't need to plug into iTunes but do it from the settings screen on the iPhone.

Re: Readability lands on iOS devices

Thank you for the link!
I hoped the app would allow emailing the converted web page to my Evernote account but Readability only allows emailing a link. :-( I have yet to find a reliable way to get a web article saved to Evernote in a decent format.
I've tried using Evernote's MemClip with mostly unsatifactory results. It crashes a lot. I've taken to copying the article from Safari's web page and pasting it into Evernote with mixed results. I never could get the Evernote add-on installed on iOS Safari to send directly. After several frustrating attempts, I've given up on that route.
If anyone has a better method of moving clean versions of articles to Evernote than my cludges, I'd be very happy to hear about them.
That said, Readability looks like an interesting app in its own right.

After a long wait and several setbacks, the free Readability app has
finally landed on iOS devices. A universal binary, Readability supports
both your iPhone/iPod touch and has a native iPad interface. According
to a blog post announcing the software, the app was born from a
collaboration between the Readability team and the talented designers
and builders at Teehan+Lax.
Featuring clean typography from Hoefler & Frere-Jones, the app turns
any web page into a clean view for reading now or later on your iOS
devices or desktop, using the free Readability browser add-on. Articles
seamlessly sync between platforms via an unlimited, searchable archive
on the web.

Greetings,
We currently use the ShopShop app and like it but I'm looking for a way to be able to enter prices from different stores so we can squeeze the nickel a little. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks, Joel

Password typing tricks?
Posted by: "Mike G Atlanta" maxglitz@mindspring.com maxglitz

For all its popularity, I think regular texting is a huge pain with those of us who feel their thumbs grow to the size of Texas when beginning a message, so I avoid it. Don't understand why a voice message isn't the preference with the majority.
One thing I can't avoid is the occasional need to enter a long password for such things as the Apple App Store. As you type, you only see what you've typed for a split second before it turns to bullets to prevent spying eyes from watching. I'm constantly having to start over. After a while, many sites will lock you out after too many attempts.
Is there a recommendation that is safe and reliable that will allow me to make that easier for Texas Thumbs? Either another app or some trick that will help?

In the 3 years I've been using iPhone, I don't think I have ever been moved to using my *thumbs* to enter text. Usually my right index finger, which is half the width of my thumb. If that fails you, go to Macworld.com and look for Serenity Caldwell's stylus reviews.

I use 1Password for all my passwords. It works and syncs with pc, mac,
iphone, etc through Dropbox, so your passwords are always up to date. You
can launch the app, choose the site you want to go to, and it will take you
there, filling in the password/username for you.
It does so much more than passwords too - including wallet items, notes, all
secure and locked up tight!
It costs a little ($10-$15?), but is so worth it!

My fingers are not only the size of Texas but sometimes I think I'm touching with the panhandle but I'm really touching with Brownsville.
One password is very good but it's browser is not quite as good as Safari. I don't think you can use it to enter the password for the app store.
I just pay more attention I watch that letter or number before it turns into a bullet. I am slow and I watch the key show that it's been typed and now I only mistype occasionally.
I am also very thankful for Siri. This was typed using Siri with a few corrections.

It's somewhat clumsy and round-about, but you can go to 1Password, look up and COPY the password for a site, than go to the site in Safari, and PASTE the password in.
