The Woz spells trouble for the cloud Posted: 06 Aug 2012 05:48 PM PDT If it were any other company, an executive going on the record with an unfavorable comment regarding the cloud when his or her company was a major player in that space would have been met with swift punishment. But this is Apple and the executive in question is Steve Wozniak, the outspoken tech activist and everyone’s favorite geek who doesn’t shy away from criticizing anything and anyone, even the company he co-founded. Following a special performance of Mike Daisey's monologue “The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs”, the Woz took the stage for a Q&A session with the audience. His take on the cloud (and consequentially Apple’s iCloud)? It’s a ticking privacy bomb waiting to explode and nuke our digital selves from orbit. We cannot even begin to wrap our heads around such a security nightmare because most of us haven’t been through a mass-scale cloud disruption (yet). Those BlackBerry email server outages and T-Mobile’s Danger incident? Just timely warning signs of things to come. TIMELY: Conveniently, AT&T just suffered what one blog described as a “massive outage”.(...) "The Woz spells trouble for the cloud" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
Increase iPhone battery life with ‘BattSaver’ Posted: 06 Aug 2012 04:03 PM PDT BattSaver is a new jailbreak app from Xvolks — probably best known from his work on the Absinthe jailbreak tool. He’s been cooking up his latest effort for quite some time now, and it’s received endorsements from many users, including fellow Chronic Dev Team associate, pod2g. BattSaver touts the ability to increase the iPhone’s battery life; up to double, and at times, even more. Does BattSaver live up to these lofty claims? Check inside for the full in-depth video walkthrough and analysis…(...) "Increase iPhone battery life with ‘BattSaver’" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
Industrial design expert on why Samsung is the copyist Posted: 06 Aug 2012 03:20 PM PDT Samsung has been called the copyist by Apple many times over, the first time in court documents the iPhone maker filed as part of patent infringement claims brought against its frenemy in April of 2011. But evidence is mounting that Samsung slavishly copied some areas of the iPhone experience, like the iPhone’s gorgeous icons. On Monday, Apple brought in an expert to testify before a northern California court where the iPhone and Galaxy makers locked horns in the patent trial of the century…(...) New images try to prove that Samsung copied Apple’s icons Posted: 06 Aug 2012 03:10 PM PDT As we begin week two of the high-profile patent trial between Apple and Samsung, we’re starting to see a lot more evidence submitted by both companies. And this next bit, filed by Apple, is particularly interesting. In court today, Apple’s legal team presented 6 images to the jury that it believes proves that Samsung intentionally copied its iOS icons for use in its TouchWiz interface it installs in all of its popular Android handsets…(...) Nokia, Samsung countering iPhone 5 with ‘iconic’ Windows Phone 8 devices Posted: 06 Aug 2012 02:29 PM PDT The next iPhone is upon us (think September 21-ish) and Apple’s rivals are scrambling to conveniently time their upcoming ‘hero’ device announcements around the same timeframe. That’s brave tactics, trying to divert spotlight away from the mother of all upgrades, as analyst Gene Munster dubbed the iPhone 5 release. Both Samsung and Nokia are set to unveil new high-end devices built around Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 software. One of the devices is being described in court documents as an “iconic smartphone”. All phones should be on store shelves in time for the holiday shopping frenzy. Should Apple be worried?(...) Apple posts new iAd promo video flaunting Land Rover’s success Posted: 06 Aug 2012 01:45 PM PDT Apple’s iAd platform got off to a rocky start back in 2010, and has struggled to impress advertisers ever since. It’s tried slashing ad prices, and upping developer revenue share, but it still feels like an afterthought to other avenues. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s not a viable option. And to prove that, Apple just posted a new promotional video for its iAd service, touting the success seen by luxury auto-maker Land Rover, as it’s utilized iAd in a new campaign…(...) iPhone ad features e-book with fabricated quotes Posted: 06 Aug 2012 01:03 PM PDT A new report points out that Apple’s been airing an interesting iPhone television commercial in some local markets, such as Canada and Germany, and it shows a shot of Jonah Lehrer's "Imagine: How Creativity Works" front cover. What’s interesting is that Lehrer last month admitted to making up the quotes attributed to Bob Dylan. Though the book sold more than 200,000 copies in digital and physical formats, sellers pulled it over the scandal, including Apple which no longer offers a dead tree version of “Imagine: How Creativity Works” on the iBookstore…(...)
