Most stick on labels eventually lift off and that can cost you a disc player.

It's been awhile back, but I seem to remember a round stick-on paper label with a hole in the center for applying to the center of the disc. This would be better than a regular label because it would maintain the disc's balance at high revs.

It wasn't silly and not an interruption. I'm just a little sensitive to the casual use of common chemicals.

Sorry for the probably silly interruption.

So, you chose to write on the data side, not the label side? (I still think
I must be misunderstanding you. ;) )

Yes, and they are difficult to apply perfectly in the first place
(concentric, no ripples or bubbles).

And also, given concerns about which solvent to use for erasing marker pen
writing, how about the adhesive in the label, which is in constant contact
with the disc?

The label side IS the data side. The data is embedded (or whatever…I don't know how) into the material of the TOP (label side) of the disc. The bottom of the disc is just clear plastic material.

Here we go.

As I understand it:

Commercially "burned" discs are really stamped. How does the laser read through the silkscreened label?

User burned disc have "color shifting inks" within the disk. ReWriteable, just means you can reverse the color shift, and write over it again. If you put a paper or opaque plastic label on a W or RW disc, the laser would not a be able to read it properly.

If you have ever looked inside a disc reader the laser is on the side opposite of the label.

And if that does not work, then download it in iTunes and then sync the iPhone.

Try this. Make sure first that you are connected to a WIFI network not cellular.
Go to settings/iTunes and App Stores/touch on your apple id and log out, then go to the app store and log in. Try the download now. If that doesn't work shut off the iPhone, and then try the same steps.

Seems to alphabetize it for me in 10.7.3.

For example, when I try to add a new mailbox "on my mac," it will not alphabetize that mailbox. The mailbox goes to the bottom of the of the list, and I must alphabetize manually.

Howdy.

UDID means Universal Device Identifier. It's a sort of tracking number for advertising for app developers.

Apple has alerted developers for about a year to stop using the UDID. It's a security concern.

May 1, 2013, is the deadline to stop UDID use or apps and app upgrades will be rejected from App Store.

In addition, Apple set May 1 as the date for all apps to work with Retina displays and the larger iPhone 5 display.

So, if you've seen a flood of app updaters on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, that's why. I've been getting 3 to 5 day.

Howdy.

Some days ago a group member asked about cleaning up the links between
what document launches what application when you double-click a
document to open it. I don't remember who asked but hope you see this
post.

I don't know why I didn't think of responding with this answer. Better
late than never, though.

Mac OS X has something called the LaunchServices that deals with this.

While there is a Terminal command that will "rebuild" LaunchServices
(clean it out) it's a lot easier to use a free utility like OnyX.

Launch OnyX and than click the Maintenance (Gear) icon.

Then click the Rebuild tab.

The first item is a check box for LaunchServices. This will be
rebuilt.

So what results when you rebuild LaunchServices?

The link between an application and a document is severed UNTIL after
the rebuild you double-click a document, file, image, video, and will
be asked to pick an application for that purpose. LaunchServices then
remembers your choice. You only have to do this once for each
application.

Dan, is this related to the Apple+I info box choice to Open All w such and such apps? I've never worked w LaunchServices but have heard of it.
