Anyone know anything about Dropbox? Is it safe to download and install?

Thank you in advance.

Yes it is safe and reliable. It is a cloud drive so you can save and
retrieve files from there as you move from machine to machine.

Howdy.

I use Dropbox.

It's easy to install and easy to use.

The free DB account provides 2 GB of cloud storage space.

You can create folders, upload files, then send a link to friends to
download them.

The installation of DB will put a special Dropbox folder in your
Sidebar and this is a link to the Dropbox folder on your hard drive.
Just copying a file into this special folder will upload it to
Dropbox. It's sort of like a mirror.

A Menu bar menu for Dropbox is also installed.

I now use the password manager named 1Password on my Mac, iPad, and
iPhone and 1Password uses a file that you upload to Dropbox for the
automatic secure linking between the various Mac and iOS devices.

If you want more than the 2 GB of free storage, it's IMO a bit
expensive to buy it via Dropbox.

I use KeePass for passwords i.e.
http://keepass.info/download.html

but lots of good DropBox basics and easy good password info in your post.
Excellent.

Thanks, Dan. Based on Charles' reply, I went ahead and downloaded it. Indeed, it's simple, user-friendly and easy. WIll stick w free copy for now. I am learning chinese and was able to access my instructor's mp3 audio files thereby. Chinese sounds are very hard! (sorry to be OT, even if briefly :)).

Thanks again to you and Charles.

You can get a bit of extra storage by getting friends to sign up for
Dropbox--if they aren't already signed up, of course.

Howdy.

Glad you found it easy.

Explore what you can do with it. For example, on the Dropbox icon in
your Sidebar, use it to open a folder and then try a right click to
bring up some Dropbox specific menu items that are helpful.

p.s. Good for you on the Chinese. My youngest nephew majored in
Chinese and Russian and speaks and writes Chinese pretty decently.
Years ago he was on leave visiting me at Christmas and I took him to a
nearby mall to find gift things. He drove there in his brand new
pickup, first car he ever bought on his own, and in the crowded parking
lot was backed into by someone which damaged his new truck. He got out
and a Chinese woman got out of the car that backed up. She began
speaking Chinese and nephew replied in Chinese and the lady nearly
collapsed in total shock. I thought it was pretty funny.

There are many features I haven't used yet but the first one I tried was
photo syncing. On installing it on my iPhone, Dropbox asked if I wanted to
sync my photos. As I was on Wi-Fi at home at the time, I said 'yes' and
after a couple of minutes all my iPhone photos were in Dropbox.

So what, you say? Well, I had also installed Dropbox on the Mac and those
same photos were automatically downloaded to a folder of my choosing.

In fact, I then deleted them as I had already imported them all into iPhoto
and I didn't want to waste space with duplicates, but you can see how
useful this might be, especially if you want to back up new photos on your
phone when you're away from home.

Another possibility is an included microphone. That may also explain the
Amazon deal. However, if it does have the standard included microphone...:)

I know virtually nothing about these products but I assume you are referring
to Mac Dictate which is $200 and $100 more Dragon Naturally Speaking Home?

My *guess* is that they feel Mac Dictate compares with Dragon Naturally
Speaking Premium which has the same retail cost of $200.

Amazon seems to be selling Mac Dictate for $70 off of retail @ $130 - I hope
that helps.

FWIW - I have never even heard of dragon express?
