I have discs marked with black Sharpie pens that were stored for years in plastic sleeve binders. Over time the ink reacted with plastic sleeve, becoming illegible and sticking to the sleeve.

Rubbing alcohol (ditto ethyl alcohol) is a relatively safe solvent. The "Hand Sanitizer" you see everywhere now days is usually about 60% ethyl alcohol.

Some one here suggested fingernail polish remover, which I would not recommend. It contains acetone, which is one of the strongest solvents easily available. It can dissolve several different plastics -- don't clean your glasses with it!

I am running OS X 10.8.3 on a Mac Pro Quad Core. I am running Windows 8 Pro
64-bit under both BootCamp and VMWare Fusion 5 (with latest fixes/patches.)
I formatted a 32 GB USB 2 Flash drive (Centon DataStick Pro) as ExFat
I have no problems with BootCamp. However, when I try to insert the flash
drive while Fusion/Windows 8 is running, it causes Windows 8 to crash.
Every time.
Has anyone else encountered this issue?
Thanks,
Jon

Oops...
It started happening under BootCamp.
I guess it's a Windows issue. I wonder if Microsoft will even consider
looking at the issue since it's a Mac running into the problem.

Hello

Using an iPhone 4, with OS 6.1.3. Also using Verizon.

All I wanna do is download a free ap from the Ap Store called iBooks. No
matter how many times I try, I always get a dialog box that says, ³Cannot
connect to iTunes Store. Cancel. Retry.²

I¹ve tried this 25 times and always get the same result. What am I doing
wrong...????

Thanks for whatever help you can offer!

Try this. Make sure first that you are connected to a WIFI network not cellular.
Go to settings/iTunes and App Stores/touch on your apple id and log out, then go to the app store and log in. Try the download now. If that doesn't work shut off the iPhone, and then try the same steps.

Can't you do this through iTunes?, there is an app called FileAppPro, but I've never used it.

I have used FileAppPro you transfer files from the iPhone to the Mac using
DiskAid or Cyberduck.

Not sure how much info you need and don't have the doorstop with me, but it is a 13 inch MBP 2.4 GHz. At least two sources agree it should accept 16 GB including DMS tech support with whom I just got off the phone. He was guessing I need to make sure the modules are seated, which I have attempted to do at least 6 times. He also thought I might need to reinstall the OS from original disk.

Remember, even if it turns out my machine won't accept 16GB it worked fine with 10 so we know the 8 GB limit is incorrect.

Bottom line is I can no longer get it to start with the original 4 GB. Guess it is time to go to the Apple store.

Best,

Jim

Thanks Daly. Just got off the phone with DMS tech support and he seemed very helpful. He confirmed my machine should accept 16 GB and recommended making sure yet again the cards are fully seated. He is more than willing to exchange cards or refund if necessary.

Best,

Jim

>> Finally I got the bright ( in retrospect, maybe not) idea to try to determine if one of the new cards was good so I replaced one of the new 8 GB cards with one of my old 2 GB ones. It worked! System information reported both modules accurately and said both were good.

Did you look at that time to see how much RAM the computer thought it had? My guess is "2GB".

>> Just for fun (?) I decided to try the other new card along with the old one and it worked too! So both new 8 GB cards are good but wouldn't work together? DMS says my mid-2010 MBP 13" will run 16 GB but mine didn't seem to want to. But it did run 10.

Specifically, DMS states:
> NOTE: The 2010 13" MacBook Pro is built with the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. It has two memory sockets which can be upgraded to 16GBs maximum memory with MacOS X 10.7.5 and the latest EFI Firmware update. Otherwise max memory will be 8GB.

Have you updated the EFI Firmware?

>> Not content, I decided to remove my old 2 GB card thinking that it isn't recommended to run two different size memory cards...

Not a problem.

>> Does the MBP require a card in each slot?

No.

> Your MBP can not handle 16 GB. It can handle a maximum total of 8 GB. That is from MacTracker and my favorite RAM supplier MemoryX.com.

And, as far as I can see, from OWC also.

My reading of the evidence is different from yours. You have said that it won't boot with only 8GB sticks in. I read that as showing that it WILL boot if it has at least one 2GB stick in.

When it was booted with an 8 and a 2, did the "About This Mac" state that it has 2GB present, or 10GB?

It is in their economic interest for you to believe that the product they sold you should work in your machine (and that, if it doesn't, it's someone else's fault).

If they sold you a product that cannot work in your machine because their information is incorrect, they are obliged to accept a return and credit your account. But they would prefer not to.

On the other hand, if you merely double your RAM from 2+2 to 4+4, you will still see a great improvement.

Apple clearly doesn't give a damn about their "second-tier" programs.
Grapher is an undocumented mess (but with so much potential). Mail is
a bug-ridden turd. Even Calculator is seriously buggy. CALCULATOR!!!

Bug-ridden turds abound in the world, in my back yard, even in the user community.

But I have not had a reason seriously to consider an alternative since I moved to Apple Mail some years ago.
