This was just discussed in an earlier thread. There are several reasons which are common to many products made for both Mac and Windows, but all are basic market forces. Dragon for Windows has been around for decades and has many "tiers" at different price points. It is a very mature product with little development costs. The Mac product is a recent product and has only one price point, which is at the high end. Dragon has competition on Windows and almost non on Mac, though this will change.
Cheers,

Many of my friends have installed Dropbox after receiving files from me and my storage space has gone way up. I did find that if I dragged a file instead of copying, I could lose the file completely if I deleted it from Dropbox. I love this app.

It's safe to download and install, but I would be careful what I stored there. If you have sensitive files, I'd encrypt them before uploading them to Dropbox:

Regarding your use of 1Password in combination with DB to sync info across machines,do you have to purchase the 1Password program for each machine separately? (iPhone, iMac,MacBook, iPad)
Thanks,

1Password for Macintosh is available in a "family" version that can be
installed on multiple Macs in the same household.
1Password for iOS can be bought once and installed on several devices.
I have it on an iPad and an iPhone.
The 1Password people strongly recommend using Dropbox for sync between
multiple devices. They say it is possible to us iCloud for the sync
but it is very difficult and not easy to do.

Randy:
I have DropBox on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Can you recommend any encryption that has both MacOS and iOS versions, so I could encrypt a file on my Mac, put it in the DropBox, and then de-crypt it on my iPad?

Thanks Denver Dan for pointing out the contextual menu for Dropbox; I always went to the Dropbox website to share links because I didn't know you could do it from the Desktop. This helps a lot!

I would worry about any cloud based storage of sensitive data.
Is there an app that will encrypt a file or folder. I've been using encrypted sparseimages, but there must be a better way. I tried using zip terminal commands, but could not get it to work.
Thanks,
Bill

Isn't it possible to synch via 1Password iTunes and avoid the cloud all together. My password are just what I would not want in the cloud. I'm not sure what 1Password file to drag to its preferences in iTunes?

Howdy.
I think iTunes 1Password sharing is intended for use with a USB cable
and not via WiFi or a cell network.
In other words, if you travel with your iPhone and add/change a
password or add a new login account it won't be updated to your iPad or
your Mac until you launch iTunes and connect iOS devices via USB.

The file to drag to Dropbox is a keychain type file. This contains
heavily encrypted individual files for each password as well and
automatic sync info.
The instructions for which file and how to find it to drag to Dropbox
are located in the online Dropbox tutorial here:
<http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/tutorials.html >
There is a sync instruction video.

Thank you Randy, for bringing up security in this discussion.
I am not a Dropbox user. In fact, I avoid most cloud or remote server use for this vary reason. The few things that I do store on any cloud are as security sensitive or exciting as white ballon bread. I think that cloud servers are great targets for hacking, and more likely to be hacked than my personal computer.

I had iTunes on my PC, and have an iPhone 5 and 2 iPads. I back up through the Cloud.
Then I bought my iMac.
However, the music in my iTunes account is not on both computers -- only those tunes that I bought subsequent to acquiring the iMac is on iTunes in the iMac.
All my music is complete on my iPhone 5 and one iPad -- I choose not to keep music on the other iPad, but that is not an issue here.
Occasionally I will download a CD to iTunes via my PC (I don't have a disk drive on the iMac.) And then I plug my iPhone into the PC and get the music on it.
Question: What do I need to do so that the iMac has everything that the PC does? Eventually I will be phasing out the PC.
Thanks.

Sharing only allows access to the iTunes library on the computer it is stored on to be accessed by others. If the PC is to eventually go away, then Carol needs to look at moving the iTunes library over to the iMac.
I don't have a specific suggestion of how to do that, but Carol should be researching how to move the library, not sharing. She will have to look into an external disc drive, if she plans to import audio from CDs. And last but not least. She will need to change the syncing from the PC to the Mac, which means she may have to reformat the iPads and the iPhone also. A little planning will need to be done there so as not to loose things like photos, voice memos, call logs, game scores, if those things are important and present.
