You might need to close and reopen Mail.

I must have made a mistake and I can't access one account.

How can I force Mail forget one password so I can re-enter it?

Thanks,
Dave

Go menu> Utilities> Keychain Access. Click on passwords on the left hand column. Type the account in the search oval, and delete the particular entry (or entries) that it finds

Jim,

Your quote is incorrect. I did not reference those articles. I think it was Randy alone.

I know the subject which Java is on what OS, right now, but…

I did not dig into those articles, but if you just got a new Mac mini Server it should have come with 10.8, on which I believe the default is not to install Java. So it would not have the folders I assume you are referring to.

To add fuel to the fire, I just received a new Mac Mini Server a couple of days ago and it does NOT have the folder which the above Macworld recommends be removed.

In keeping with the current thread re: "How to forget a mail password?", I like to know how to force Apple Mail to prompt me for a password when I launch the app.
I recently upgraded from 10.6.8 to 10.8.2, and use a POP account.
Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Marc

Try deleting the password, once the account has been entered, and is active, using the dame method I suggested to Dave.

The account was already up and running, after upgrading to 10.8.2. Since the upgrade, I have not once been prompted for my e-mail password. I have tried deleting the password from Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Password, then quitting and relaunching Mail, without success. Is this the "dame method" you wrote of?

Yeap, same process, typo and all.

Maybe someone else can help.

I like this. Perhaps the "dame method" will go viral?

Much more interesting than the "same method".

Perhaps a logout and login might help?
