The original ISP was Cogeco.ca, a cable TV company providing fast internet and telephone as well. The new ISP is Bell Canada, the telephone company. My internet connection is now through a skinny little telephone wire by DSL but it seems to be working well. I'm sorry, I don't know about servers and hosts.
The problem seems to be intermittent; I can always send on bell.net but "Mail" doesn't always connect properly to gmail the way it did. I think this is really a configuration problem with the mail app.

That was yesterday - this morning when I opened the mail window the messages suddenly went out. A new message also went right out. I thought "OK this is fine now, I'm back in business." This evening I have the same problem, new messages refuse to leave the outbox.

Using 10.6.8 I did get the thumbnails, so I don't know why you did not. I wonder if opening the picture and then closing it will bring it back or possibly changing the view from icon to list and then back???

Hi Doris,
I use a small app called NameChanger
http://www.mrrsoftware.com/MRRSoftware/NameChanger.html
It's very easy to use with many options for renaming.

Thanks Jurgen for your detailed answer.
The Command-V action is exactly what I was wanting to avoid as Mail is supposed to include all the highlighted text in the email I'm fwd'ing (after I hit command-option-U). It used to do this in 10.5 and having to paste the text was unnecessary. Presently I do as you do and have to paste the text in the mail I'm fwd'ing as it's empty except for "Begin forwarded message:".
In the grand scheme of things it's a minor thing but since the app USED to do this, I was hoping it was some setting in my prefs (shown in the screen shot) that is causing it to misbehave.

They work fine but you will need Roxio Toast 11 Titanium w/Blu-ray Video Disc Authoring Plug-in. The Ultimate media toolkit for Mac!
OWC is running a special if you buy a DVD/Blu-ray external burner at this link for $49

For burning data, you're golden. Will work great.
By warned however, that authoring Blu-ray video discs on Mac is an entirely different beast, and expensive. Very simple discs can be done with the high-end version of Toast with an add-on. I don't think the $49 deals will do it without spending additional money on upgrades, but this may have changed. After that, your in the many hundreds of dollars, starting with Adobe Encore and going up.
Blu-ray playback requires one of, I think, two commercial apps. VLC has been promising basic Blu-ray playback but has not yet delivered on Mac.
Ripping Blu-ray on Mac is also very limited. It's possible, but doesn't work great. MakeMKV was the only app last time I checked, but I think there may be a few more now. Be warned that much of the software that claims to rip Blu-ray is sketchy. Again, it's complicated.
If you really want to work with Blu-ray video discs, you need Windows or Linux. This is one of the very few things OSX simply doesn't do well.
Cheers,

Do you mean it's *directly* under Home? What are the date created and date
modified? I suspect it's been accidentally dragged there and a new one
created automatically in Library > Safari.

Experiment. Quit Safari first. locate one of the bookmark files, drag to desktop. Then startup Safari. Did anything change in Safari? If the change that takes place does not suit you, just quit Safari again, and replace the newly created bookmark file with the one you drug off.
In my iMac/Mountain Lion I have at least 60 "Library" folders, if I use "Find Any File" to search. Most are within application folders. Others are system folders. Hard to guess where info is stored sometimes.

The company that makes the earlier referenced "Deep" (http://www.ironicsoftware.com/ ) also makes a free product called "Tagit" which uses a Google created tagging system called OpenMeta.
In short, if you only wish to add Tags, it's much easier to use a Tagging program like Tagit rather than the more tedious Finder Comments methods. There are other tag systems out there, some of which simply act as front ends for the Finder Comments method.
While OpenMeta had promise as a universal tagging system for Mac, that dream seems almost dead.
