Yes, Otto. It is directly under home. Created and modified Sept 23, 2012.
Under library that bookmarks.plist was modified yesterday.

I recall some problem late last year with youtube. It would not load or play. I still had apple warranty and someone in the phone, software tech dept. helped me. And iirc, the tech guy did something w safari at that time. I say this because under Library there are 2 Safaris. One is Safari.old.

Oddly now I note that there is also a folder Library copy just beneath library. YIKES!!!

Thank you so much for answering.

Thanks for the reply. I'm afraid I'll mess things up if i experiment. I'm the farthest thing from a techie.....

Because I don't understand what I'm doing when I do things like that, I don't know how to get out of a fix if i create one.

I mean if I do what you suggest, and safari is fine, can I just trash that copy of the Bookmarks.plist? Would I have to do what you suggest for every file and then trash it if all's well? Or... what? You presented me with one alternative.

That's what I mean about not understanding. I don't "get" the guts of this stuff, so I'm up the creek if I mess things up.

I am admitting ignorance, not stupidity and b/c these machines and supporting software are fairly complex, I risk a foul up.

that's all.

Thank you

OK. The one in Home dates back to 23 Sep. The one in Library is current.
You can safely delete the first, but if you want to play it extra safe,
drag it to the Desktop, close and restart Safari, check that Safari's
bookmarks function is OK, then delete the file.

Have a look at the Library Copy folder. Switch to List mode and sort on
Date Modified. I'm betting there's no date there later than 23 Sep. If so,
delete the folder. Library can get pretty big, a lot of it in Caches, so
you'll get some useful space back.

Without sounding snippy here, please, Do open the manuals and the
package that Bell provided when you switched over. There might be a
quick start card or account summary, and all those gobbledygook
technical questions that Chris Collins asked should all be answered in
there. Those are needed to set MAIL up correctly. You might still be
working on the Cogeco servers because it takes some time for them to
take you off their list; so while it works fine for now, it may stop
suddenly without warning when they figure out you are no longer a
customer. Bell has various SMTP servers, depending on when you signed up
and where you are located, indicated in your account summary (at least
mine) or online help page. They spread the mail load around to prevent
overloading any one server... So even if you don't change anything now,
be prepared to do so any time, so having that info on hand would be
convenient.

The other thing to consider is what sort of mail protocol are you / did
you use: IMAP or POP?
That could be the root of the connection problem with Gmail, as you
mentioned, it would be in the configuration setup in Mail.

Food for thought...
---

The original ISP was Cogeco.ca, a cable TV company providing fast
internet and telephone as well. The new ISP is Bell Canada, the
telephone company. My internet connection is now through a skinny little
telephone wire by DSL but it seems to be working well. I'm sorry, I
don't know about servers and hosts.

The problem seems to be intermittent; I can always send on bell.net but
"Mail" doesn't always connect properly to gmail the way it did. I think
this is really a configuration problem with the mail app.

On a quick review, I'm guessing your problem may be related to Mail's handling of IMAP accounts. If your mail is IMAP, rather than POP, and you have your check mail timing set aggressive (such as every minute), you can end up with duplicates between your local and your IMAP outboxes. The end result is that copies are left in your Outbox appearing to be unsent, but these are in fact, duplicates. I've had as many as four copies!

Two things to try for testing. One is to set you check mail time to a longer period, say every 5 or 10 minutes. They other is to many save "Drafts" if an email is taking a while to compose.

I changed my check to 5 minutes (ISP is Verizon FIOS) and now the problem is extremely rare. This problem with Mail and IMAP accounts is documented online though I don't have a reference for you at the moment.

Cheers,
tod

This evening I have the same problem, new messages refuse to leave the outbox.

An informative article, and a reminder of the many and varied ways in which MS Word can screw over a user.
Thanks.

Hi everyone, my name is Jennifer and I just recently bought a MacBook Air (last Friday). I made the big switch from PC to Mac and am loving it so far. I have so much to learn though!

I think i am learning quickly but sometimes I run into things that I am not figuring out and I am also sure that there's a LOT more that I can do that I am not aware of.

I'm working with Office Mac 2011 a LOT and was wondering if others were familiar with this and could help? My first question is…..when I try to save a document - I have a subfolder under Documents for my office (I work on my own laptop because my office allows me to telecommute a lot!). When in a document I go to "Save As" and then my choices are not broken down to allow me to find subfolders under the main "Documents" folder. Is there a way to change that so I can go to all of the subfolders under "Documents"?

Also….I am used to using the Control + arrow keys to jump from word to word in a sentence rather than using just the arrow key and going one space at a time. Is there a way to do this? I did find that Cmd and arrow left or arrow right will take me to the beginning or end of a line but now I just want to figure out how to go word by word. Is this possible?

Thank you for your help!

Jennifer

This is a huge help already! Thank you!

Okay….dumb question. I don't have a "HOME" key on my keyboard. Am I missing something?

Thanks again,

Jennifer
