You should be able to use Preview to do this. Make sure you can see thumbnails and then drag each of the pictures to the thumbnail sidebar.

I must be doing something wrong...
I just tried this - dragged one pic onto Preview in order to open a
new Preview file (there seems to be no way to create a (blank) new
file in Preview.)
Dragged another two pics into the sidebar, then made annotations in each page.
When I saved from the File menu it gave a warning that I had two
other Previews open and did I wish to save all? I clicked save all.
The result was that I finished up with a PDF file with just the one
pic in it (the one that was currently displayed) and the two other
original JPGs were saved in their original locations with the
anotations I had made in Preview added to them.
Try as I may I just can't save all the image in the sidebar all into one file,
Bean, as suggested by Daly, works just fine.

George,
I was able to do this. Just tested it out. The new Preview has some weird behaviors. By the way, are you in Lion - because I don't have a Save on the File Menu.
When dragging something to the sidebar, unless you place it just right it doesn't get added to the original document but just to the sidebar so you can view. Try experimenting a little to see if you can place it in the document itself. You can tell you succeed by what it says on the header bar. It should give you name of file and number of pictures.
I also saved the file as a PDF after opening the first picture using the export function.

Um. iPhoto can do this. Select all. Select settings. Print. Save as PDF.
As to Preview, this baffled me for a long time. Here's a way to see how this works. Open three photos with Preview. Open the sidebar. Click the first thumbnail and "Save as" a PDF. The first thumb will now be a PDF. Now take the second photo thumbnail, and drag it right on top of the first. Wait until the first thumb is highlighted, no blue bar below or above. Drop. Now the first thumb is a multipage PDF which you can see by the "binding" indicator on the left edge of the thumb. Open the pages by double-clicking the thumb (or single clicking the open arrow). Now take the third photo thumb and drag it up until you will see the blue line appear between the pages of the PDF.
However, for what you want, this is not the easiest way. I like the "Bean" method. The best way if you have lot's of photos is an app with the ability to make "thumbnail" pages or one that has "contact page" printing. Many graphic apps can do this.
I'm not in iPhoto at the moment, but can't iPhoto print multiple photos together?
Cheers,
tod

I'm using Preview v5.0.1 with OSX 10.6.8. There is a Save on the
FileMenu but it is greyed out. I was using the Save As... option.

Sorry Jay - Out of curiosity I've tried it several times following
the steps above, but it's not doing it.
Not to worry - the Bean approach works fine.

I notice that the Terminal prompt is not your "Computer Name" but your "Host" name. To get to this, go to the Computer Name as Otto describes and click the "Edit" button. This will take you to the Host Name settings.

Oh, and while the Mac uses similar terms to Windows, don't assume that items like "Computer Name" and "Host Name" wil function the same way. The Mac naming and path schemes are not designed to be user friendly and they can be quite bewildering when working under the hood. The names used in the Finder are different from names used in Terminal for instance.

Yes, it is "under" the Computer Name. The 2 seem to be the same by default
(with the addition of .local for the host name). I wonder if they can be
different?

Terminal newbie question
Posted by: "N.A. Nada" whodo678@comcast.net
Thu Apr 19, 2012 10:38 am (PDT)
I am not a regular Terminal user, and I have a silly question. When I open up a Terminal window, besides telling me when I last logged in, it seems to always tell me, "You have mail."
Why does it tell me I have mail?
I would assume this is a hold over from early www and prior, when line command use was the norm, but why is it still there? We're 40 some years after ARPNET. Is it referring to regular email or the logs in Console?

Type 'mail' at the Unix prompt. Thenn type 'l'. This will list all of the mail message headers.

That never happens to me when in Terminal, but my husband said that if a mail message comes in while he is in Terminal, he gets an alert like yours in Terminal. I don't have any idea what the difference might be. We are on the same OS on almost the same computers. And I don't believe either of us has messed with our Terminal setup.

I'm in the Bash shell. When I type $mail l
I get an invitation to type a subject of an email.
I do not get a listing of mail message headers.

2nd response.
If you have a program like ClamXv installed it may be sending you
notices via Terminal.
I'm not a Terminal expert at all but I think you can do a yahoo or
google search and find the Terminal command to read the mail.

I do not get this. I get the basic Unix mail app and it's command prompt.
A mail message here is usually from a system process that had a problem with a job. Always has been in every flavor of Unix that I've operated.

Terminal is only a direct access to Unix and the operating system.

Denver Dan & Harry, thanks.
Yes, I have ClamxAV installed, but currently in manual mode.
The Unix prompts brought up a list of mail and then the message for mail 1.
This is stupid. Why is it giving me the scan reports in Terminal after gave it to me previously in the GUI?
Ok, how do I delete these mails? Or will reading them delete them?

Dan,
Wouldn't it be weird if you couldn't, and wouldn't that have given the
Apple-bashers a field day?
(Or are you taking the mickey?)
;)

Howdy.
I can't remember the meaning of "taking the Mickey" but I recall the
Brits using it when I lived in Italy. It's a very English English
expression but not well know in the US.

iTunes purchase/account question
Posted by: "neelie" neeliec2000@yahoo.com neeliec2000

I recently had a charge for $17+ on the credit card I have on file with iTunes. I knew this was wrong as I have a credit balance on my account of over $150. I immediately contacted my credit card company, and because of the relationship they have with Apple, they immediately reversed the charge. They have since told me there will be no further "investigation" of the charge.
In the meantime, I've tried contacting iTunes support to find out how this charge was generated, by whom, and why. All I've gotten so far from iTunes is an email (response to my completion of an online form), saying they have disabled my iTunes Store account, "disallowed" the credit card I have on file, and then this:
"... have also disabled the account that was used to make the purchases."
Since I cannot SPEAK to anyone at iTunes, I'm not sure what the sentence "in quotes" means. Are they saying that there is another iTunes account involved besides mine?
The email also gave me all kinds of suggestions/tips to prevent problems with my account, including changing my password - which I will have to do anyway since my account has been disabled.
Has anyone had an experience like this? I just want to know if this was a one-time error on iTunes' part, or I have anything to be seriously concerned about.
Does anyone know of any way to actually talk to a human being at iTunes?

Re: Struggling with iCloud, Address Book, and Calendars

James,
My contacts on the Cloud are fine, but I have duplicate groups in the AddressBook.app on my iMac.

Where do you find the "All on My Mac" and "All iCoud" groups. Literally where do you click to see those groups? I log in to iCoud in Safari and I look in AddressBook on the iMac and I don't see any groups like "All on My Mac" or "All iCloud." I are sure this sounds really basic, but I would like to get rid of the duplicate groups in AddressBook and can't find the options to disable them.
Can you help?

The "On My Mac" contacts are listed as the "Local" account in Address Book preferences. If I edit a card in the "iCloud" group, that does not propagate into the local group, nor does information entered into the "Local" group, e.g., a new "test" contact, show up in iCloud.

There were duplicates of all "birthdays" entries in iCal, with one member of each pair containing no person's name! Quitting and re-launching iCal resolved that oddity.

I get no option called "Merge." If I did, I think that would fix it. Does "Merge" show up in System Preferences for you? Or is it somewhere else?
