Re: Transferring e books from iPad to Computer

that works if both people have exactly the same content ... however if both iPad users want some things that the other doesn't, it won't work.

I have a separate iTunes account and also have joint access with her to another account. If she downloads a bunch of books and I log with our joint id, and hit the sync button, the message comes up and says that everything on my iPad will be wiped out and replaced with everything on our joint account.

Guess i am back to square one on this one,

In most cases, it is a matter of a few seconds to quit a running program that you won't want to auto-start when you re-boot later.

Right Jim. But, I remember that my older machine took in excess of 5 minutes to become usable after the user screen ! appeared. Quite a nuisance for me!! Not so much now though. Love having my regular programs there for me very quickly!

Cloud Push Question

Posted by: "myhandle2001" RGE102840@cs.com   myhandle2001

Sun Apr 15, 2012 11:19 am (PDT)

Y'all:
I just set up iCloud today. When trying to sync Contacts, Calendar, Bookmarks, etc, I'm able to "push" between my iPhone and IPad, but nothing gets pushed from or to my iMac desktop.
I set up iCloud on the desktop, and in "Settings" it shows all the desired switches to be on,
but nothing seems to go to or from the desktop.
Any ideas?

Even though you cross posted to two lists. I'll ask the same basic question.

What is the OS on your iMac?

Ok, syncing with 10.5 or earlier no longer works when an account is transitioned to iCloud.

Once you have transitioned to iCloud, with 10.6 or 10.7, you have to open Sys Prefs> iCloud and enable what functions you want, like syncing Mail & Notes, Contacts, Calendars and Bookmarks.

Have you done that?

There is nothing wrong with checking with another list, if you don't get a solution at one.

But posting to multiple lists, often posts to the same people. and it can be annoying.

Then when you stop posting to one that you get a reply from, so we know if you have a solution or not, is rude besides not giving anything back to the list you posted to. Other people may have the same question, and by knowing it worked for you, you are confirming the solution to others.

Rest assured folks, if my query to 3 different groups results in a solution, all 3 groups will hear about it, and hopefully some other frustrated soul will benefit.

Simple iTunes question...

Posted by: "DaveC" davec2468@yahoo.com   davec2468

Embarrassing "newbie" question. As long as I've been using Macs (but
not iTunes much), I can't figure it out...

I downloaded a podcast .mp3 file and want to add it to iTunes.

I dragged it and dropped onto the iTunes window. It didn't add it to
the library.

I dragged it and dropped onto the iTunes icon. No joy.

I tried the "Add to Library" option under the File menu. I can select
the file and click the "Open" button; no joy.

I know it must be simple, but it escapes me.

Thanks

Have you looked for it in Podcasts, Music and Books. Sometimes you have to correct the media type, and being that you are just moving a audio file, it could end up as music, audio or spoken word.

If you download it from the iTunes Store or as a subscription, it tends to end up in Podcast, but drag and drop or add to library can let it go anywhere.

If Open does not work, then the file may be corrupted, and may explain why iTunes is not receiving it. In which case I would ask if it is from a known trustworthy source or could it be malware?

Try opening iTunes and supplying the URL where you downloaded it from.

It's an episode of "Car Talk", the weekly radio show, downloaded from
NPR.org. I can listen to it in Finder using Quick Look (press the
space bar). So it looks to be genuine, valid, and not malware.

Great, if I want all of them. I want just this one.

And I'd also like to understand / solve why iTunes isn't importing
this one mp3 file.

I would consider Car Talk from NPR a trustworthy site. I think the file & iTunes are just confused.

I went to NPR and downloaded the latest Car Talk podcast. I dragged it from my Download folder and dropped it on the open iTunes window. It ended up in the Music Library. I check Get Info on the podcast and it showed a media kind of Music. So any attempts to sync it to my iPhone failed, unless I told it to sync it as music. Or played with the media kind, and you would have to do this with every one and remember the name of the episode. Subscribing would be much easier.

As Jim suggested subscribe to the Podcast at iTunes and it should import it into iTunes and sync it to your iDevice as a Podcast. All you have to do then is make the settings so it syncs to your iDevice.

The NPR page that allows you to download the page also has a link to the iTunes page to make the subscription.
