Howdy.
Thanks for this interesting news!
I attended a sort of future tech event several years ago that Apple was
part of and the laser keyboard was one of the items talked about.
Some of the other things were flexible roll up keyboards, flexible
laptops (like a piece of rubber you could just roll up), and
holographic hard drives.
I'd guess kids 20 years from now will be computing in an entirely new
way that's difficult to imagine.

I tried your example and got the same thing, if I understand correctly
things like "gym" are the same as "home", and "work" in other words are
personalized to you so you would have to add an address labeled "Gym" to
your own contact. That being said, SIRI popped up and said it didn't have
Gym to tap my name if I wanted to add it, I did add it as an address with
the name GYM but it didn't work - it still said it didn't have it and the
label was "other". I did not try and go online to Google Contacts (in my
case) or iCloud and see if I could label an address "Gym" but would think
it is possible.
I haven't had time to go further and try and actual place name such as
"Airport Club"

What really surprises me about all of this is how poorly documented it is. It's touted as a major advance, but clearly doesn't work very well for many people, does for others, and there's no read guidance from Apple regarding just what to do to configure it!
I'll continue exploring ;-)

And, on another note, your message may have helped me solve what was (for me) a forum message formatting mystery. I use Apple Mail from Mac OS X 10.7.3 as my mail client. When I copy text from a correspondent to begin my reply, on my screen the copied text is indented, colored blue, and demarcated by a vertical blue line at the left margin.
However, when my message returns to me from the Yahoo servers, copied text is demarcated solely be a single ">" character at the left of the first line of copied text, UNLESS I also copy a blank line beyond what I intended to copy, in which case there's a series of ">" characters leading each line.
I've just realized that I send my messages to the forum with html turned on, which I would think would ENABLE the blue line and colored text, but when I do that it gets converted to ASCII behind the scenes, resulting in the confusing denotation of copied text. At least I THINK that happens.
So, this is a message sent after I've asked the forum to expect ASCII from me. If I'm correct, I'll see my message returned to me so that Apple's Mail client can parse how to display copied text correctly.

People, please remember with regard to Siri:
IT IS A BETA!
It is not claimed to be a finished product!

Well, THAT didn't work!
Anyone have any idea how I set characters sets in Mail.app and my forum preferences so that they play well together?

I just took a few minutes and did another test,
"Remind me to call home when I get to Barabara Arrington's" (name changed
to protect the friend - was actually a much more unique name;->)
"When would you like me to remind you?"
"When I arrive at Barbara Arringtons"
Siri popped up with both addresses for this person and asked me to select
which one (via tap) - I tapped on the home address and it "got it" then
asked me to confirm I said yes and it was done.
So 1. Create contact with exact name you want to use, "Airport Club" with
the correct address
Then use Siri to create reminder OR
Launch Reminders
Tap +
type action (call home, check gas, etc) and tap enter/return
then tap the > more on the new item
tap Remind me
turn At a location on
it will default to current location - tap that
then it will show your "work" and "home" addresses (if set)
tap Choose Address...
Select contact
Select address if more than one
Back up select When I leave or When I arrive
Select a day/frequency if you like and tap done
In other words if Siri understands you? Much easier to dictate
If it doesn't or you are on a call or listening to music, you can do it
manually

iCloud questions
Posted by: "DaveC" davec2468@yahoo.com davec2468
Sun Apr 22, 2012 4:43 pm (PDT)
Some basic questions about iCloud:
Does the iCloud service use the subscriber data network (3G, 4G, et.
al.)? Or WiFi (if available)?
Can either be utilized to use iCloud?
Thanks,
Dave

I should clarify:
the questions pertain to iClous as used with an iPhone.
Thanks,
Dave

It can use both as far as the source goes, bi-directional in nature.

Absolutely, but watch your data cap when using the cell networks.

Apple's Impending Death Notices
Posted by: "Harry Flaxman" harry.flaxman@me.com hflaxman001
Sun Apr 22, 2012 8:35 pm (PDT)
Quite awhile ago, someone in the group posted a URL for a humorous compilation of all of the 'death notices' about Apple from the press, from the '90's.
Does anyone remember this, or still have a URL for these?
It was posted over 2 years ago if not more.
TIA
Harry

Harry, I probably posted that link.

Thanks Denver Dan!
That looks like the URL. Funny as heck how many times it was forecast
for Apple to go under.
I'm sure there are current dire predictions as well!

USB Wireless Problem
Posted by: "wvdjyknits" shrinkingknitter@gmail.com wvdjyknits
Sun Apr 22, 2012 10:48 pm (PDT)
I posted a couple months ago about an issue I was having with an Afterthemac USB antenna hooked up to my G5. I was able to get it sort of working again. Previously I didn't have to enter and confirm a string of numbers, but after my wifi supplier changed the name and WEP address of my router, I always had to fill in those numbers in order for it to connect. At the time of the initial problem, I e-mailed the company several times with no response.
Now the antenna doesn't find my router at all. I called Afterthemac today and the message on their end is that the owner died Friday, April 13, and the company has been closed. The website is gone and there's no further support.
Do any of you have any experience troubleshooting one of their USB antennas? I'm thinking someone must, because I learned of the company through this group.
I've repaired permissions and uninstalled/reinstalled the antenna drivers, which were provided on a CD that came with the antenna. That didn't work. I'm not sure what my next step should be.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

What About this Reported Trojan?
Posted by: "mpstupinski@snet.net" mpstupinski@snet.net mstupinski
Mon Apr 23, 2012 6:13 am (PDT)
Forbes is running an article about the threat of a trojan named "DNS Changer," in which it is stated that:
"The FBI is warning that hundreds of thousands of individuals could lose access to the internet come July 9 unless they disinfect and remove a malware Trojan off their computers.
DNS Changer can infect both Windows and Mac systems. Linux users are safe, as are those using iPhones, iPads, Android devices and other systems."
I haven't heard a word about this one, and the dire warning surprises me. Any info that anyone here can share on this?
Thanks,
...............Mike
