Mirani, Australia - The iMum, a family-friendly blog dedicated to reviewing iOS and Mac apps for children, has come a long way since its inception in August 2011 and with that growth came more responsibility. The founder and original iMum, Amanda Powell, decided to advertise for guest reviewers to help with the workload.

"I put the word out and shortly after I was swamped with requests from mums wanting to write for TheiMum." Amanda declares. "I noticed three people in particular that really went above and beyond with their reviews so I decided to ask them if they would like to become a permanent part of the team and fortunately for me they said yes!"

The four iMums have eleven children between them ranging in age from one to 17 and now bring a global perspective to their app reviews with Amanda being from Australia, Alison is in the United States, Grace is from Singapore and Mary is originally from the UK but is currently living in the United States.

"The iMums' goal is to educate parents about the variety of iOS and Mac apps available for children of all abilities." states Mary. "We review all types of apps including dramatic play, art, education, digital stories and games and also try to highlight apps that may suit children with Special Needs."

As self-confessed app addicts with literally thousands of apps between them, The iMums test drive apps with their children to find the best ones for their readers and their family. Alison explains "There are hundreds of thousands of apps in the app store and The iMums' mission is to find the best of the best and let our readers know about them."

As well as reviewing apps, The iMums also work with developers Beta testing new apps and giving them feedback and suggestions on how to improve their apps. They also offer several tools to help developers promote their apps and place them in front of their highly targeted audience of parents that frequent the website. These tools include developer interviews, giveaway hosting, press release publishing and the new expedited reviews.

The iMums' efforts were recognised recently by way of a nomination in the Top 25 Tech Moms contest held by the popular online community for mothers, Circle of Moms, which closed last week. The iMums took out the number one spot against 59 other great tech-related mum blogs.

"Winning this contest has meant a fantastic amount of exposure for The iMums and the more people that know about us, the more people we can help!" says Grace. The iMums have some exciting projects in store for their website including an all new YouTube channel, a chatbox for yet another opportunity to win promo codes and are considering broadening their reviews to include other technology products suitable for children. Teacher tracing allows teachers to record their own example tracings for each letter and number, which replay when the student taps the Learn button. Teachers can also adjust the fonts used in the application, customizing them to the approved fonts for each school, including individual Cursive letters. School Writing contains the approved handwriting fonts used in schools in the U.S., UK and Australia, and includes the widely accepted Zaner-Bloser and D'Nealian fonts.

The Words activity section allows students to learn to read, write, say and spell pre-programmed and teacher created words. The Numbers activity section presents the same learning opportunities together with a dot counting bar that allows students to count up to the number in that lesson. It also includes an image button with a picture of a number of items that correspond to the number being learned. This photo option is customizable to allow instructors to change the photo. The Lowercase and Uppercase activity sections also feature the photo option with the comprehensive application learning activities.

The Whiteboard activity Section includes example lessons on traceable shapes, pre-writing activities, mazes, dot-to-dots, math problems, alphabetical order, and Chinese Characters that clearly demonstrate the flexibility of the app. These innovative lessons provide a thorough example of the framework for teacher-created lessons. Whiteboard also features the ability to import a teacher's own images, drawings, and audio and text instructions.

Teachers can create, save and share their verbal and whiteboard lessons, profiles and customizations, with complete control over the management of the lessons, the app and student profiles. Full import and export functions are included for iPad classrooms and the demografix website hosts several more free lessons that users can submit to and load from, as a free shared resource.

School Writing was created with the unique needs of teachers, parents, and students in mind. Teachers or parents can lock the app into a restricted student mode using a four digit PIN. In student mode, word lessons cannot be created or deleted and profiles cannot be changed. Other options are available depending on the specific choices of the teacher, such as hiding the homepage external links. This app will automatically, by choice email the student's tracings and audio recordings as a webpage to the teacher or parent at the end of a completed lesson. Clearly designed with education in mind, School Writing relies on the teacher or parent to review the student's work and provide external recognition and reward for good work or effort, so the bells and whistles are kept to a minimum. Teachers will appreciate the noise-minimizing features of this application in busy and noisy classrooms.

The ability to create custom content extends the use of School Writing far beyond early education. This app is customizable for instruction from early to adult education. This application is a powerful tool for creating individualized instruction for students and will allow teachers to create instructional content for students with varying ability levels.

Pro Compass replicates the look and feel of classic pocket compass hardware, adding modern features and technologies. The app offers nine different compass modes with needle, pointer, and rosette styles capable of displaying degrees, quads, or mils. Pro Compass uses advanced graphics to render 3D floating compass hardware for realistic operation.

Williamsburg, Virginia - Pro Compass is the latest app from Hunter Research and Technology, developer of the popular Theodolite app series. Pro Compass replicates the look and feel of classic pocket compass hardware in use since the 1800s, adding modern features and technologies. The app uses advanced OpenGL graphics (normally reserved for games) to render 3D floating compass hardware for realistic operation.

Pro Compass offers nine different compass modes with needle, pointer, and rosette styles capable of displaying degrees, quads, or mils. The needle mode shows a proper "direct read" display. In all modes, Pro Compass shows both magnetic and true direction simultaneously, with a rotating outer true ring that is automatically adjusted for local magnetic declination.

Pro Compass displays location and altitude, with decimal, degree-minute-second, and MGRS position formats. The app also contains a built in two-axis inclinometer that drives two independent bubble levels and a bullseye level. The inclinometer has angle readout dials for each axis, making it useful for many different types of measurements including slopes, pitches, sight lines, and geological angles like dip and strike.
