If the phone if off it does not show the location. I guess one can switch
off only if one knows the password or battery dies.

iPad and Overdrive

Hi,

I'm trying to get into Overdrive and download books to read.

It appears in iTunes Books and is checked but it doesn't appear on the iPad.

For some reason the Sync Books in iTunes is unchecked. If I check it I get the message; "Are you sure you want to sync books' All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the iPad "Robert Poland's iPad 3" will be removed." Seems to me that I her been here several times before.

Am I doing something wrong or?

Hi Robert,

Here is OverDrive's help site that gives step by step info on using the app with your iPad.

http://help.overdrive.com/article/0477/Getting-started-with-an-iOS-device-iPhoneiPadiPod-touch

I can also tell you, you need to have the manually manage music option checked in iTunes to sync your books with iTunes. Usually, the only reason an OverDrive title would show up in iBooks is because it is an Open EPub. In other words it has no DRM protection.

Robert,

What format of book are we talking? ebook or audio book? In iTunes, what does Get Info> Options (tab)> Media Kind say about the book? Is the media kind correct? If the media kind is wrong, it may not transfer or may transfer to a location you don't expect.

Is the format compatible with your Mac?

Instead of syncing all books, sync only selected books, or make a play list and sync that. The message is probably because your library is too large for your iPad.

I don't have an iPad, but I have had similar issues with my iPhone

Yes, I can read it with the iMac.

I am trying to Sync Books, Selected books with the intent of adding one book.

I was able to get the book to the iPad by drag and drop on the Devices/iPad.

The Sync Books is still grayed out.

If the ebook is on the Mac and you can read it there, then it is a syncing issue with iTunes not Overdrive.

Dragging dropping on the Device in iTunes is not the correct way to do it. That is the problem.

I don't do ebooks because they are terrible to read on an iPhone and I don't have an iPad. Drag and drop it into your Books Library to get it into iTunes and then confirm it is there.

Then sync it how every you want to the device. I prefer to keep a playlist of books for the iPhone (as opposed to the iPod Nano or iPod Classic), and then sync that to the device.

Try that and get back to us.
