Howdy Lou.
You might try the following steps.
Go to:
hard drive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Trash the following preference files:
com.apple.AutoWake.plist (might be 3 of these including a plist-lock
and a plist-new)
com.apple.PowerManagement.plist (and the plist-org file)
I would then shut down (not restart) then do a cold boot.
Reconfig your screen saver and display sleep and test.
You could also try deleting from your home user account Library folder:
com.apple.screensaver.plist
and
com.apple.screensaver.plist.lockfile
- - - - -
Note on the plist.lockfile items.
The lock files are new to Lion and above and are a way to try to
prevent unexpected shut downs, power loss, or other problems from
causing a preference file (plist) from becoming corrupted.
It's safe to trash these since the system will recreate them.
Prior to Lion you might have seen, after use, a different type of
preference file temporary files appear in Preferences. These had 8
character extensions after the dot. Examples are:
com.apple.iTunes.plist.3847EH45
com.apple.iTunes.plist.2GDH17DJ
com.apple.iTunes.plist.37D6JH25
These can also be trashed without problem.

Hi there.
Both my HP printers are showing as "unresponsive." I'm mostly concerned with the P2015d. Has there been any resent updates to Mac that would suddenly make it not work? I've tried repairing permissions, rebooting, unplugging/replugging the printer, and removing it and re-adding it in system preferences. Anything I've missed?
I'm on an iMac 2.8, i5 with 10.8.2.
Thanks,
Barb

Go to the HP website and find the downloadable drivers. Download and install. Hope it works.
I worked w HP for a month to try and get my HP printer to work. HP says their drivers work with OSX. They told me that over and over. They never did. I finally bought a Canon printer, and have never had any more problems. I won't be buying anything HP in the future.
But I hope you have better luck. jr

You said you unplugged the printers. Did you mean that you unplugged them from the power, or just from the computer?

They just go as high as 10.6, not 10.8.
I had no problems until last night on 10.8, though...

Howdy.
Try the Reset Printing System command. This is a reset of the
underlying printing system in OS X.
This reset will often solve problems after a system update.
1. Open Print panel in System Preferences.
2. In the left panel (Printers), do a right click (or a Control Left
click).
3. The Reset Printing System command should pop up. Choose it.
4. Your printer queues will disappear. No printer drivers are
deleted. Just the Print Queue that is connected to a driver.
5. You will need to add back your printers. If you have USB printers,
this normally works automatically but you might need to turn off
printers, shut down computer, turn on printers, boot computer (in that
order) and they should configure themselves with new print queues.
For an Ethernet connected printer, you would probably need to click the
plus button and then the Default icon in the resulting Add Printer
window and then the printer.
Good luck. Tell us if this works.

Unplug the cable from the printer to the computer (at both ends). go to your printer settings and delete your printer.
then plug the cable back into both ends (printer and computer) and when the computer "sees" the printer tell the computer to make that printer the default printer.
That should fix it.
I just had my computer quit recognizing my printer yesterday. There are detailed instructions at the HP website.

Howdy.
Barb, I just checked the HP support and driver site.
HP is not specific but it generally indicates that your HP P2015d laser
printer should work in Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
It also states that most HP drivers are now available via ASU (Apple
Software Update).
You might try the Software Update for this task.
Or, you should be able to go to Apple Downloads and download HP drivers
for Mountain Lion here:
<http://support.apple.com/downloads/#hewlett%20packard%20driver >
HP Printer Drivers v.2.12 for OS X
This download includes the latest HP printing and scanning software for
OS X Mountain Lion, OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard.
For information about supported printer models, see:
<http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP >
<http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907 >
Under supported printers Apple indicates that your laser printer should
work OK in Mountain Lion.
If this doesn't work, I'd suggest manually deleting drivers and
preferences files and any cache files for this printer and then doing a
fresh try at the Software Update (after a restart) and/or downloading
the above HP driver package from Apple.

I get this message when I try to install The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/hpPlugInInit.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.

I've been slowly changing my mail client from Eudora to Mail, succumbing to the eventuality.
One of the "show-stoppers" that Mail doesn't have is the ability to edit the Subject field of received messages. In Eudora this is simple to do.
I save messages that are particularly helpful into a separate mailbox. But the Subject, as contained in the message, is sometimes not very indicative of the value to me of the message. So I want to change the Subject to reflect what it means to me.
This is a very simple way to do this in Mail:

FYI,
Dave
Eudora 6.2.4 & Mail 4.6
2011 Mini 2.7 GHz dual i7 / 16 GB / 250 GB / 750 GB
OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard

I'm now getting political posts on my Facebook account! I've sent emails to them telling them not to send me emails or anything to my Facebook account to no avail! What can I do?
