How hard/easy is it? My MacBook seems to need one and I live where it it hard to find anyone to repair a mac.
Since I am using a library computer, it will be a while before I can check replies.

We use a $99 HP C310a Photosmart all-in-one. It's inexpensive,
wireless, does internet printing from any device, supports airprint.
Pretty cheap for what it does.
Prints well too!

Thanks so much for answering all my mac question. Yes my mac runs so slow you can't believe it. My kids laugh at me with their laptops that are so much faster. I think I will invest in a new mac since this one is so old and really not worth putting any money into it. It was a good computer for my first one but I'm ready to go bigger and newer. Thanks for all your advice! Nanci

I don't know if anyone else has been experiencing problems with the
iTunes app store, but my girl and I have had nothing but problems for
the last couple of weeks. It seems that the particular apps that we
have been buying in-app purchases for have had invoicing problems that
we've had to have charges reversed for.
Just today, I purchased an in-app for $5.99. I wound up paying for 3
orders # $12.73 apiece with the same in-app purchase listed multiple
times within each order. The problem with today is that the in-app
activation or add-on never happened!
This was true of an app that my girlfriend bought last week, entirely
different app. She paid twice, but did get the add-on.
I don't know if Apple's billing system has flaws or what.
I've got to say it's been annoying as heck.
Out of curiosity, has anyone else had such problems lately?>?

The slowness should be a one-shot phenomenon that disappears as each cache gets recreated.
I have never experienced the "script errors" message. OnyX has a lot more that it can do beyond just clearing caches. Did you run any of its other routines?

Caches increase performance by caching frequently used data. Caches
don't ordinarily need to be cleaned on any sort of frequent schedule.
However, if a cache gets very old, and stale, it might be caching the
wrong things, and not giving you the best performance possible.
Also, a cache can become corrupted, and this can cause your computer
to act flaky. So, if your Mac is acting flaky, or if your Mac has
recently slowed down, clearing caches and allowing your computer to
rebuild new ones can be beneficial.

OK, I gave up on getting Lion for my MBP, so I upgraded my iMac to Mountain Lion. Now I'm still facing a problem with my calendar that I found when I migrated my stuff to the iMac. If I go to iCloud, my calendar there is just as it should be. When I looked at iCal while in Lion, however, it was filled with New Events and what did appear as old events were at the wrong dates.
I thought that when I moved to Lion the new 'Calendar' that appears in place of iCal would synch with iCloud and things would be corrected. They weren't, and now I'm afraid the screwed up calendar will get sent to iCloud and I will have nothing but the screwed up calendar anywhere. I've shut down the iMac until I get my head around this (with the group's help, of course). Isn't the new Calendar supposed to use the calendar on iCloud? If so, how would I force it to be populated with the events currently in the iCloud calendar?
Once I get this straightened out I'll start considering updating the MBP from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. (I just discovered that my Rosetta Stone language program won't work on ML and I wanted to use it on the MBP)
Thanks,
................Mike

Hi there,
I have set up a second account on my iMac for another user however iMessage does not appear within the account in the dock area. I have just recently installed Mountain Lion. Any ideas on what I need to do? Imessage appears in my primary account however.

There *is* no "iMessage" application.
The "Messages" application is located in your top-level Application folder.
If you need it in the Dock, open the Applications folder and click-and-drag the application to the Dock.

Howdy.
Today on NPR's weekly Science Friday (SciFri) radio program there was
an excellent segment on the Apple vs Samsung trial going on right now
in San Francisco, California.
The trial is in the United States District Court for the Northern
District of California so this is a Federal trial court and not a state
trial court.
For group members interested in this trial, NPR is National Public
Radio. Each Friday NPR has a program called Science Friday (SciFri).
Today one of the segments was on this case.
You can download a podcast of this from the iTunes Store.
I thought the guest, Robin Feldman (Univ of California law professor)
did a very good job of describing the current international patent war
mess and the problems caused by "patent trolls" and connecting it to
the current trial.
Look for Science Friday Audio Podcast for 8/3/12 (August 13, 2012).
The segment title is "Tech Giants Gear Up for Patent Battle."
"A court battle between Apple and Samsung is underway in California,
with each side arguing over intricate patent and trademark claims
covering how the companies¢ phones and tablets work, look, and feel.
Robin Feldman, professor at the UC Hastings College of the Law,
explains some of the key issues in the court case and how it might
affect the technology industry."

Several days ago I got a notification in the menu bar icon that one
of my apps needed an update. It was WeatherMan Lite. I upgraded it.
After several restarts it still has the "1" in the icon in red. If I
go to the App Store it tells me that I do have one that needs
upgrading. I click on that and I get WeatherMan Lite, grayed out
because it says it is already updated. How do I get rid of this false
notification?
