I was scanning messages a little too quickly, I guess. I had heard
that Lion was once more available to those who had already purchased
it. I would assume that would be those that bought their machines with
10.7 installed.
I haven't heard of anyone actually pursuing this. This was mentioned in
a periodical's website.
I will try to locate it again and forward the specifics.

I've heard an incredible punt of conflicting information on this subject, even from Apple, Harry. I was told by an Apple supervisor last week that I could get a copy including the installer by visiting the local Apple store. I called the store and was told I could. Then I left for a week and today I went to the store. They essentially said "No way, they won't let us do that." I hadn't gotten the name of the person I talked to last week, so that ended the conversation.

I believe that my current computer, a mid-2011 iMac, came with Snow Leopard. I bought Lion and installed it a few months after it came out.
A few days ago I went to the App Store (NOT iTunes) and held Option while clicking "Purchased". There was NO Lion listed there.
Luckily for me, I had already made several copies of the original installer. I was just trying this to see if I could recommend the procedure to others.
My own guess is that for a little while, Apple was allowing people to re-download Lion by holding Option while clicking the "Purchased" tab but that they quickly withdrew it. I guess that because a number of people said it would work but by the time I tried it, it did not work. I'm really glad for my backups.

That is strange as I am in the same situation and I just now went to the AppStore and held down the option button while clicking the purchased button and both Lion and Mountain Lion where there and I could download both if I wanted to.

My only guess is that I bought it under another Apple ID, since deactivated during my long long call to Apple about Apple IDs.
I'll just be grateful I have a backup. I don't even want to THINK about calling them about this and possibly getting my Apple IDs changed again!

You can burn data CDs/DVDs using Finder. You can burn music CDs using
iTunes. Is there some other kind you want to do, or are you asking about
external hardware? Does your Mac not have a Combo Drive or SuperDrive?

FWIW, I NEVER clear any system caches unless I'm having major problems.
The system will run more quickly as well, by leaving these cache files
alone.
I do use Onyx, and have cleared system and app caches, but have never
had any problem doing so.
A little too late to help you at this point, but it might be helpful FFR.

Howdy!
I might suggest running Activity Monitor to see what's going on. It may be that you chose to rebuild Spotlight.
I use Onyx all the time and have never had a problem.
Also checkout Applejack. Great program, and it's free!
Thanks!

Yes. I would make a full clone using CCC or SD *as soon as possible*. Don't
mess about deciding what you think you need, just copy the lot!
Next step: boot from the clone and see if the problems persist.

I see. But if you have a Mac mini with a Thunderbolt port form last summer then it also has a FW 800 port as well as a HDMI port that supports 1920 x 1200. So I'm confused about who says they have a Mac mini with Thunderbolt and no FW 800. In fact I expect that to continue in the next new Mac mini because those are the ports on the regular new NON-Retina USB 3 MacBook Pros.
So who has a Thunderbolt Mac mini without the FW800 port? I'm pretty sure there is no such model.

I don't see any mention of a Mac mini in this thread, just news of a TB >

Thanks Jim and Kathy ... I will try both methods when I am in an area with good service ... some of the RV parks we hit have lousy/no service.

Hi Gary,
It depends. You need to tell us more about your Mac and what you want to do.Ê
