Databases can be kept in sync via the local network or cloud services like Dropbox or WebDAV. Other users can also directly access DEVONthink Pro Office databases using a completely rewritten web sharing. DEVONnote, DEVONthink's little brother, gets an update, too. The update to version 2.5 is free and recommended for all users.
Using multiple computers, working from different places, sharing data with coworkers: In todays highly connected world it's essential to always have access to the latest data. Ubiquity is key. And we know that. All editions of DEVONthink 2.5 accommodate these needs with the new ability to synchronize databases between multiple computers and locations. DEVONthink Pro Office 2.5 features a rewritten web sharing for one-click collaboration.
Synchronization connects directly to other copies of DEVONthink over the local network or VPN or saves so-called "sync stores" on Dropbox, WebDAV, or just any mountable volume, e.g., USB sticks, portable hard disks, or file servers. Coworkers with access can connect to the same sync store with just a few clicks, download databases, work even offline with the data, and synchronize all local or remote changes at the press of a button or even automatically. All data is protected by both access to the sync store itself and individual user names and password for each database. It's possible to keep databases in sync with more than one sync store, e.g., a direct connection, Dropbox, and the company file server.
DEVONthink's web sharing plugin provides a web interface to other users on the local network. It has been rewritten to support several new features: in addition to browsing, searching, and downloading documents, web sharing now supports uploading, creating, renaming, moving, and trashing documents and editing text. Bonjour makes published databases easily accessible to everyone on the network without remembering long addresses. The Cappuccino-based web app imitates the look-and-feel of DEVONthink and works with all modern web browsers on OS X, Windows, and Linux from Safari to Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer 8. It also runs in Safari on the iPad.
Users still fighting the paper flood will like the many improvements we have added to the paper capture functions of DEVONthink Pro Office 2.5. Sheets can be directly captured to the database without storing them into the paper capture window first, and it is now possible to scan first all even then all odd pages of a paper pile and then shuffle them into the correct order.
Other improvements we made to all editions of DEVONthink as well as to DEVONnote include better tagging support with a Tags column in document lists and an enhanced Tags field in the Info panel that makes tagging multiple items easy. Version 2.5 uses more standard editing options and brings a number of minor interface refinements such as fewer unnecessary alerts. Of course we have also improved the overall performance and fixed bugs.

ChordLab is a unique music application that tackles advanced concepts in harmony. So beware - this is not the generic chord-book app that guitar players use to look up a diagram for an E or A chord. ChordLab deals with harmony as a whole. Instead of displaying two or three diagrams for that E chord ChordLab puts it all into context.
Rochester, New York - After a very long hiatus ChordLab is finally back on the Mac and better than ever. ChordLab is a unique music application that tackles advanced concepts in harmony. So beware - this is not the generic chord-book app that guitar players use to look up a diagram for an E or A chord. ChordLab deals with harmony as a whole. Instead of displaying two or three diagrams for that E chord ChordLab puts it into context, lets you play around with it by applying inversions, voicings or adding tensions - concepts that make much more sense once one steps away from TAB and diagrams for a second and also takes a look at music notation.
The many thousands of fingerings ChordLab can display for guitar or piano would be completely overwhelming if listed indiscriminately or even alphabetically. Luckily there are concepts that help differentiate between different forms of chords starting with the basic triad and going as far as the most complex altered Jazz voicing. Using these concepts allows us to grow as musicians. The root and quality of a chord (i.e. CMaj7) is all that we are given when playing from lead sheets, but inversion and voicing of that chord are as important. The same that we know the name of a chord we are playing we should always be aware of the particular inversion and voicing we are using. That is why ChordLab always displays all inversions of a chord in music notation and makes it very easy to step through all possible voicings. Fingerings are then generated based on root note, type of chord, inversion and voicing. This approach is a good habit to get into as early as possible in our development as
musicians.
Musicians playing a harmony instrument like the piano or guitar often come up with a bunch of notes that sound interesting when played together. Sometimes these sounds can be the starter of whole song and if we maybe want to invite others to join in, the chord has to be identified, so it can be communicated. Not always an easy task. The chord finder function in ChordLab is in invaluable tool in these circumstances. Especially so for guitarists that rarely encounter chords in root position.
Another essential tool found in ChordLab is the Circle of Fifths which is implemented in a manner that allows to use it interactively. It not only allows to look up key signatures for major and minor scales, but all modes derived of the major scale, like dorian, phrygian. So it is possible to display key signatures for all mixolydian scales for example and simultaneously highlight the other degrees for that mode. Additionally ChordLab displays degree structures for a key in standard Roman numerals. This is very useful when putting together chord progressions.
There are many other features in ChordLab. The lookup history maintained when running the application can be displayed in the history window. Here one can easily trace back through chords previously looked at or start from scratch. The guitar instrument has presets for all common open and altered tunings, there are six different clef choices, notes can be named using syllables (Do, Re, Mi...) or letters (C, D, E...), chords can be shown in American or European notation and a rating system allows the quick marking of one's favorites.

Rochester, New York - After a very long hiatus ChordLab is finally back on the Mac and better than ever. ChordLab is a unique music application that tackles advanced concepts in harmony. So beware - this is not the generic chord-book app that guitar players use to look up a diagram for an E or A chord. ChordLab deals with harmony as a whole. Instead of displaying two or three diagrams for that E chord ChordLab puts it into context, lets you play around with it by applying inversions, voicings or adding tensions - concepts that make much more sense once one steps away from TAB and diagrams for a second and also takes a look at music notation.
The many thousands of fingerings ChordLab can display for guitar or piano would be completely overwhelming if listed indiscriminately or even alphabetically. Luckily there are concepts that help differentiate between different forms of chords starting with the basic triad and going as far as the most complex altered Jazz voicing. Using these concepts allows us to grow as musicians. The root and quality of a chord (i.e. CMaj7) is all that we are given when playing from lead sheets, but inversion and voicing of that chord are as important. The same that we know the name of a chord we are playing we should always be aware of the particular inversion and voicing we are using. That is why ChordLab always displays all inversions of a chord in music notation and makes it very easy to step through all possible voicings. Fingerings are then generated based on root note, type of chord, inversion and voicing. This approach is a good habit to get into as early as possible in our development as
musicians.
Musicians playing a harmony instrument like the piano or guitar often come up with a bunch of notes that sound interesting when played together. Sometimes these sounds can be the starter of whole song and if we maybe want to invite others to join in, the chord has to be identified, so it can be communicated. Not always an easy task. The chord finder function in ChordLab is in invaluable tool in these circumstances. Especially so for guitarists that rarely encounter chords in root position.
Another essential tool found in ChordLab is the Circle of Fifths which is implemented in a manner that allows to use it interactively. It not only allows to look up key signatures for major and minor scales, but all modes derived of the major scale, like dorian, phrygian. So it is possible to display key signatures for all mixolydian scales for example and simultaneously highlight the other degrees for that mode. Additionally ChordLab displays degree structures for a key in standard Roman numerals. This is very useful when putting together chord progressions.
There are many other features in ChordLab. The lookup history maintained when running the application can be displayed in the history window. Here one can easily trace back through chords previously looked at or start from scratch. The guitar instrument has presets for all common open and altered tunings, there are six different clef choices, notes can be named using syllables (Do, Re, Mi...) or letters (C, D, E...), chords can be shown in American or European notation and a rating system allows the quick marking of one's favorites.
