Brush of Truth, geared to third- through sixth-graders, is the first book app created by Story Bayou, a mom's vision to get tweens to read. Written in second person, "your" voice, Brush of Truth lets the user choose how the action unfolds at critical points in the plot. Brush of Truth has 125 pages of story and colorful illustrations, with 65 decision points and 20 possible endings. The app is $1.99 on iTunes, Kindle Fire, Google Play (Android) and Windows 7.
Brush of Truth recently won the 2012 Media of the Year award in the Interactive Book App category in Creative Child Magazine's Creative Toy Awards. The app was named a "Recommended iPad Book App for Older and Reluctant Readers Ages 8-12" by Digital Storytime, and one of "6 Interactive Book Apps to Get Kids Excited About Reading" by Tecca.
The language arts lessons created for Brush of Truth include Powerpoint presentations, worksheets and teacher answer keys. They were developed by Cyndie Sebourn, a retired National Board Certified Teacher and owner of Sascyn Publishing, Inc., which creates Common Core-aligned curriculum for educational apps.
"Brush of Truth is unique in that it is a narrative where children can choose different scenarios as the story progresses. Its curriculum focuses on writing compound and complex sentences correctly, as well as on creative writing," Sebourn said. "Apps alone in the classroom are not enough; educators need apps with curriculum that is Common Core State Standard-aligned."
The app tells the story of two tweens who find an enchanted paintbrush. They begin to discover its powers as they go in adventures under the ocean, inside a sand castle, and while rescuing a sea creature.
"With the introduction of the iPads in my classroom, students are clamoring to play Brush of Truth. They love the choices of where the story will take them and it has been a godsend for some of my more reluctant readers," said Jayne Clare, a founder of the review site Teachers With Apps, and a resource teacher for fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders. "My students are loving this app! Every day someone asks for it if I haven't brought it out."
Julie Landry Laviolette, author of Brush of Truth and founder of Story Bayou said book apps are an emerging trend in children's literacy. "Book apps are an exciting new tool to get kids to read," she said. "It also is an inexpensive form of educational technology that reinforces vocabulary skills, higher level thinking , cause and effect and reading comprehension."
Laviolette, a New Orleans native, is a former columnist and editor for The Times-Picayune. She currently lives in Fort Lauderdale, Fl., where she contributes to The Miami Herald, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, South Florida Parenting and more than 30 regional parenting publications in the U.S. and Canada.
Story Bayou, founded in 2011, partnered with Linxter, Inc., a Cooper City software engineering company, to create the mobile app. Brush of Truth was released in February 2012.

Plasma Orb is an arcade game in which the player controls a spherically shaped biomechanical creature, negotiating various obstacles on its way. The game will be available for download from the App Store in five languages - English, Russian, Spanish, German and French - for iPad, iPhone and iPod.
Kazan, Russian Federation - TZAR games announces the upcoming release of Plasma Orb, on October 18th, 2012. Plasma Orb is an arcade game in which the player controls a spherically shaped biomechanical creature, negotiating various obstacles on its way. The game controls are extremely simple - a tilt of the device to either side will make the Orb roll in the corresponding direction.
The game objective is relatively simple - accumulate as many points as possible by collecting the various bonuses scattered throughout each level. Collecting all the bonuses on each level is no easy task, so that players wishing to achieve optimal results in a minimum of time will have quite a challenge on their hands. The total of accumulated points is published in the Game Center, where players can compare their scores with each other.
The game was developed based on the powerful Unreal Engine 3, which enables it to produce breath-taking 3D graphics of the highest quality on the mobile screens. The convincing simulation of physical laws integrated into the game enables the Orb to interact in a life-like manner with its surroundings.
At the time of release, the game will offer 6 full levels; however there are already plans to add more levels with various arcade styles and unique designs in the future. Passing one level requires 10-20 minutes on average, depending on the player's skill and expertise. The game also includes a tutorial level, which teaches the player the basics of the gameplay.
The game will be available in a free to download version, which grants access to some of the levels, while the rest are available in the full version, which can be purchased and activated through the game app itself for a nominal sum.

The Boston SuperMeetUp marks the final city stop for SuperMeets in 2012 and is expected to sell out as historically every SuperMeet sells out.

Oscar nominated film editor Tim Squyres, A.C.E. will appear on stage on behalf of Avid. Squyres has edited all but one of Ang Lee's films, including CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON; SENSE AND SENSIBILITY; THE ICE STORM, and the soon to be released LIFE OF PI. In addition, Squyres has edited SYRIANA, GOSFORD PARK and RACHEL GETTING MARRIED, to name a few.
"If there is one reason to get out of the house and be a part of this SuperMeetUp it's to connect and interact with Tim Squyres," comments Berube and Horton. "LIFE OF PI will be in theaters after the SuperMeetUp on November 21st and is one of 2012's most anticipated films. So to have Tim talk about his work here is a privilege for our creative community. We are really excited to make this happen and thank you, Avid, for helping us get Tim to Boston!"
New York based directors Jason and Josh Diamond will also appear on stage at the SuperMeetUp on behalf of longtime supporter of the SuperMeets, Blackmagic Design. "The Diamond Brothers are shooting very creative projects with the new Blackmagic Cinema Camera," comments Berube and Horton. "This camera is changing everything in the world of affordable 2K acquisition and both Jason and Josh will share their experiences in shooting with the camera and screen footage to show us how as talented filmmakers they are pushing this camera to its limits."
San Francisco based filmmaker Kanen Flowers, creative director of Scruffy.tv and the upcoming twelve episode web series HERO PUNK will also appear on stage on behalf of Adobe. "If you have never seen Kanen Flowers present before you are in for a treat," adds Berube and Horton. "Kanen will take us "behind the scenes" of THE SCRUFFY SHOW and show us some crazy, fun footage as well as the workflow, using Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition and After Effects."
The Boston SuperMeetUp will also include show and tells featuring the work of local filmmakers as well as the always wild and fun "World Famous Raffle," where thousands of dollars worth of valuable filmmaker-related prizes will be handed out to dozens of lucky winners.
Doors are scheduled to open at 5:30pm. Here, attendees can enjoy a few cocktails together and learn about the latest trends in collaborative editing workflows for post production and broadcast markets. Oscar nominated film editor Tim Squyres, A.C.E. will appear on stage on behalf of Avid. Squyres has edited all but one of Ang Lee's films, including CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON; SENSE AND SENSIBILITY; THE ICE STORM, and the soon to be released LIFE OF PI. In addition, Squyres has edited SYRIANA, GOSFORD PARK and RACHEL GETTING MARRIED, to name a few.
"If there is one reason to get out of the house and be a part of this SuperMeetUp it's to connect and interact with Tim Squyres," comments Berube and Horton. "LIFE OF PI will be in theaters after the SuperMeetUp on November 21st and is one of 2012's most anticipated films. So to have Tim talk about his work here is a privilege for our creative community. We are really excited to make this happen and thank you, Avid, for helping us get Tim to Boston!"
New York based directors Jason and Josh Diamond will also appear on stage at the SuperMeetUp on behalf of longtime supporter of the SuperMeets, Blackmagic Design. "The Diamond Brothers are shooting very creative projects with the new Blackmagic Cinema Camera," comments Berube and Horton. "This camera is changing everything in the world of affordable 2K acquisition and both Jason and Josh will share their experiences in shooting with the camera and screen footage to show us how as talented filmmakers they are pushing this camera to its limits."
San Francisco based filmmaker Kanen Flowers, creative director of Scruffy.tv and the upcoming twelve episode web series HERO PUNK will also appear on stage on behalf of Adobe. "If you have never seen Kanen Flowers present before you are in for a treat," adds Berube and Horton. "Kanen will take us "behind the scenes" of THE SCRUFFY SHOW and show us some crazy, fun footage as well as the workflow, using Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition and After Effects."
The Boston SuperMeetUp will also include show and tells featuring the work of local filmmakers as well as the always wild and fun "World Famous Raffle," where thousands of dollars worth of valuable filmmaker-related prizes will be handed out to dozens of lucky winners.
Doors are scheduled to open at 5:30pm. Here, attendees can enjoy a few cocktails together and learn about the latest trends in collaborative editing workflows for post production and broadcast markets. Shiftoption software today announced the release of rubiTrack 3.0. rubiTrack displays activities like running, cycling, and other sports on a map and in a chart, organizes them, compare them visually, analyzes data like heart rate, speed, pace and more. rubiTrack reads tracks from many popular GPS enabled fitness devices like the Garmin Forerunner, Edge, Suunto Ambit and others. rubiTrack 3 is a major release with stunning new features.
Rohr im Burgenland, Austria - Shiftoption software is pleased to announce the release of rubiTrack 3.0, an new major release of its industry leading fitness- and training analysis software for the Mac. rubiTrack displays, analyzes and organizes endurance sports like running, cycling, walking, hiking as well as indoor workouts like weight lifting, strength training, yoga or Pilates.
rubiTrack reads tracks from GPS enabled fitness devices like the Garmin Forerunner and Edge, GPSs like fēnix or Colorado, Suunto Ambit and T6, Garmin SWIM and manu other devices. rubiTrack also reads tracks from the iPhone recorded with its companion application rubiTrack for iPhone. Additionally rubiTrack reads a great number of different file formats that contain fitness related data or GPS tracks, like the popular GPX or TCX formats.
The rubiTrack 3 activity chart shows diagrams of data such as speed, pace, heart rate, elevation and many other values. The layout is freely configurable, users can split the chart up into multiple areas or have curves stacked. Exciting rubiTrack 3 enhancements include continuous 10x zoom, multi-selection of curve parts, 2-way synchronization with the map and comparison of multiple activities in any curve type. It also supports new curves like best segments and pie charts for zones distribution.
rubiTrack 3 comes with a completely rewritten map component. The all new rubiTrack Terrain map is based on OpenStreetMap data and has been developed from ground up to provide users with an ideal mapping experience for outdoor activities. Additionally rubiTrack supports OpenStreetMap maps, OpenCycleMap and MapQuest maps.
rubiTrack tracks training achievements and best marks over time. It comes with features which help athlete's plan their training in an optimized way by keeping track of long-term and short-term training stress and the stress balance. rubiTrack automatically calculates necessary performance measures like intensity factor and training stress level.
The Dashboard, which is a new feature in rubiTrack 3, provides a quick way to monitor your training progress. It quickly answers questions like this: "What was my total distance in the last 5 weeks, and how much more was it compared to the previous 5 weeks?". It shows a visual comparison between performance in one time frame and the performance in the preceding time frame.
With rubiTrack, users can plan events using the integrated calendar. Users can also monitor weight, fitness and health status using the athlete log. The athlete log also syncs with popular WiFi enabled scales like Withings and FitBit. rubiTrack also keeps track of equipment usage and tracks total mileage, total duration and usage count with automatic maintenance notifications. This can be used to get notified when a running shoe needs to be replaced because it's been used for a certain mileage.
