iDownloadBlog is giving away an iPad mini Posted: 25 Oct 2012 05:30 PM PDT After months of rumors and leaks, the iPad mini was finally unveiled. Bigger than an iPod touch, yet smaller than a full size iPad, the mini is set to be Apple’s most successful product for the holiday season. While the iPad mini will be available on November 2nd in many countries, we suspect supplies might be limited, and chances are Apple might not be able to make them fast enough to meet the demand. Because we want to make sure you spend the holidays with an iPad mini, we decided to give one away to one lucky reader…(...) Jailbreaking your iPhone is still legal, your iPad not so much Posted: 25 Oct 2012 05:27 PM PDT On July 26, 2010, the Library of Congress ruled that under the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act), jailbreaking was legal. This was a big deal at the time, as prior to the ruling the legality of jailbreaking was a bit of a mystery. The decision was part of a list of DMCA exemptions, which unfortunately just expired. So the Library announced a new batch of exemptions today. And although jailbreaking is still legal, it appears there are some significant caveats…(...) 15 interesting points from today’s earnings call Posted: 25 Oct 2012 03:13 PM PDT Apple just announced its financial results for Q4 2012, and is now finishing up its earnings call. As promised, we've put together a list of some of the more interesting bits from the call to pass on to you. Among that list, is the fact that Apple added $4 billion to its growing cash pile last quarter, bringing its cash total to more than $121 billion. It also sold a stout 44 million iOS devices during that time…(...) "15 interesting points from today’s earnings call" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |

Low touch screen yields blamed for the iPad mini’s price tag Posted: 25 Oct 2012 01:30 PM PDT With so many people seemingly disappointed that the iPad mini starts at $329 rather than $249 or even $199, we polled you ahead of the announcement on the price and only seven percent thought only Apple could get away with pricing the device at $329. And yesterday, in another poll more than forty percent said they would be getting one (more than half would opt for the entry-level WiFi-only model). No question some people will go for a Nexus 7 or Amazon’s Kindle Fire because not everyone can afford a $300+ tablet. But why exactly Apple didn’t make a sub-$300 iPad? According to supply chain sources, low yields for touch screens are to blame…(...) "Low touch screen yields blamed for the iPad mini’s price tag" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
Report: Apple launching a radio service in early-2013 Posted: 25 Oct 2012 12:52 PM PDT Just as we’re counting down until markets close and Apple reports its quarterly earnings, Bloomberg conveniently publishes a report about work on Apple’s own Internet radio service apparently slated for early next year. The iPhone maker reportedly has “intensified negotiations” with major record labels about launching an iAd-supported online radio service. These talks currently focus on various advertising revenue sharing schemes, with the final deal possibly on the horizon by mid-November. In addition to an upfront fee, music companies reportedly demand a percentage of iAd sales and the ability to insert their own commercials for artists…(...) Microsoft’s Surface is here, high-tech ad proclaims Posted: 25 Oct 2012 11:53 AM PDT Look what just surfaced on Microsoft Surface team’s YouTube channel. This television commercial could be equally confusing to those who deemed the previous Movement ad too childish to begin with and perhaps over-the-top. One thing is certain: Microsoft is determined to make as much noise as possible about this tablet. The company today officially launched Windows 8 and will begin selling the Surface on Friday. Apple the same day is scheduled to put its iPad mini on sale across 34 countries worldwide. Armchair estimates peg advertising expenditure for Windows 8 and Surface launches anywhere in the ballpark of $1-$2 billion. I’ve also included a new making-of video for the Movement ad right below…(...) "Microsoft’s Surface is here, high-tech ad proclaims" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
