I have a similar question. My account botteron@alum.mit.edu is a permanent forwarding edress that redirects my mail to what I'll call carol@myisp.com.

Mail makes all my messages say "From: carol@myisp.com." But for several reasons I want my messages to say "From: botteron@alum.mit.edu." In Eudora I could do that. (I miss Eudora! But OS 10.7 won't let me use it.)

(1) Using Mail, is there a way to do that?

(2) If not, is there another mail program in which I can?

adTHANKSvance!

I assume you set this in Mail > Preferences > Composing > Addressing > Send
new mail from.

Does that not work or is the option no longer there?

Wrong!
Just added Crucial's 16GB kit. My about this Mac states 24GB.

Adding memory is very simple. Except difficult seeing what you are doing, and knowing that you have it in the correct position.

What can I use to test RAM?

If "the manual" is the user manual that came with the Mac, ignore it (re. RAM limitations). Apple tests the computer with the largest memory modules available when the computer was tested -- which may be many months before you see it. Since then, technology advances and memory modules for your computer become available in larger and larger sizes.

The RAM sellers (eg, OWC: http://www.macsales.com) test these combinations and list on their site what sizes will fit your computer. Follow OWC's recommendations and you can't go wrong.

Cheers,
Dave

Hey, that's great Jim!

Glad you proceeded without my advice. You are absolutely correct about the installation, though. You almost have to have to lay the computer down on a shelf that's at or above eye level to see what you need to see. And I should have switched the computer on before buttoning it up. I got the dreaded triple chime when I put it back on the desk and had to open it up again and re-seat the modules, after which it works fine.

In System Preferences, for the Mail application I replaced the key shortcut for Send to Cmd-dash (or command-minus sign).

When I've created a new message and want to send it, I press this key shortcut. I get a beep.

But if I click on the "Message" menu heading, and click again (the menu drops down and then goes away), *then* if I press the same key shortcut it works.

It doesn't matter what key shortcut I use for the Send command -- I've tried several and they all fail in this manner.

Ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

And even weirder: it happens only with New Messages. If I Reply to a message, the Send key shortcut (Cmd-dash) works as expected.

I have seen on this list ( I think) a request of OSX 10.5 disk.

I just recycled a couple of old Mac's and have disk for:

10.5 (2 sets)
10.4 (1 set)
10.3 (2 sets)

If anyone want one of these( $0 ) contact me at: jas1931@gmail.

If not will trash them in a couple of weeks of so.

I'm interested in the 10.5, if I can use it with a G5 tower.

I made a backup copy of my original SL Installer disk. The
original went bad (being lazy I did not back up the back up),
then my backup just this week. Plus, my Disk Warrior DVD
would not boot. I was confused about whether the 27" iMac
DVD drive is bad or two coincidences. Thanks to a tip from
Denver Dan, I ran a DVD Cleaner Disk in the iMac. But still no joy.

I have an ancient CD/DVD repair wheel w a crank I purchased
in the dark ages. I got it out and ran it several times on the two
DVDs in question: DW and Snow Leopard Install. Surprise, the
more I ran the SL Disk through the wheel, the more improved
the disk became. I can boot and repair from both DW & SL
installer disks, I just cannot make an image or install from
the SL installer disk.

I called Apple this morning and asked the operator if I can
purchase a new Snow Leopard Installer disk. She was nice
and did not charge me for a service call. She put me through
to a tech who for a small $17 fee is sending me another SL
installer disk.

Is Apple a fantastic company or what? Incredible service.

Butl, I am glad to see that the new iMacs do not have a DVD
player and download all software from the internet. jr

Oh really? What do you do if you have any number of loose DVD discs you
NEED to run by way of a player? Buy a 3rd party player from someone?

I'm with Hal here.
Optical drives are probably the single part of your computer MOST likely to fail. When it does (and mine have, more than once), I would MUCH rather that what had to go for repair or replacement was the external optical drive I bought from Apple, than my whole desktop or laptop computer!
