Dan,
I am using the Passbook app.
At this point I have the Starbucks, Walgreen's, Target, Ticketmaster and Valpak Passbook enabled apps installed.
I have used the Starbucks and it takes less taps to get the barcode for my card to be scanned to pay for my coffee than thru their app.
Walgreen's just presents the barcode of you rewards card to be scanned to get points for your purchases, don't have to carry the card with me.
Valpak adds selected coupons to passbook for use at local merchants, I have added a couple but not used them yet.
Target provides coupons for products and I have not found any I am interested in yet.
Ticketmaster has a list of venues that accept the passbook tickets, none in our city yet.
So far I am impressed with the app and am looking forward to more business using it.
Given that I have zero interest in NFC I see this as a good alternative.
Regards, Dave

Subject: [macsupport] Passbook - Survey - Who Is Using?
Howdy.
Question for the group.
Who is using Passbook on his iPhone?
If used - - - where? Coffee shops? Movie tickets? MLB (Major League Bassball) tickets? Something else?
Is it working? Easy to use?
Denver Dan.

Thanks again for all the comments and suggestions. They have been insightful and helpful.
Otto: I did say I wanted to stop downloading Yahoo mail messages...I think I mis-stated this. What happens is all the messages currently in the Inbox seem to need to "come alive," for lack of a better term. That causes the MAIL program to lag as it is trying to open.
Ed: I actually do that a lot! (let MAIL open & copy the email address) :-)
Gijzette: I use Firefox - what is the fix you've found?
Jim S: I have not tried right clicking the email link....will do that! Thanks!
Jayant: Yes, it was the automatic starting that I was also trying to avoid.
Otto: I will try the right click idea and see if it works...sounds like a good idea!
Thanks again everyone!

I'm on a Mac Pro and OSX 10.8.2.
I constantly get software updates (I guess thru App Store application), which I like, but one of the updates is for printer driver updates from Apple for my Epson 1400 printer. I use the Epson driver from their website for this printer and don't want to Apple driver installed. This notification pops up at least daily and is very irritating.
Is there any way to tell Software Update to ignore JUST the driver updates for my Epson 1400 printer? I don't want to disable software updates, just this one piece of software.
Thanks,
Lou

You clearly must have the Apple version of Epson driver installed on your system. If you uninstall it, I would think the updates would stop appearing.

Is your Epson driver up to date?
Does the update say the driver for your Epson printer needs to be updated, or does it say your Epson driver needs the update?
One implies it's a Gimp driver, the other specifies a driver written by Epson.

I didn't post the original question but Apple is always wanting to install driver updates for printers I don't own or have ever owned. Does apple just want us to have the software for every printer on the market?

All of this is a good reason to keep a clone backup up to date.

I just acquired a new mac mini after being away from Mac for a long time. I was very surprised to see no on/off key on the matching keyboard. I had remembered years ago ,Mac had tis feature. The tiny button on the back of the mini is a pain.
Would I be just as well off the put the mini to sleep and not worry about on/off?
thanks

I've always kept all of my Macs turned on, and just sleep when not in use.

And how much lower would your electricity bill be if you turned it off over night?

Actually, not much lower. Probably would not notice any difference in that small amount.

When the Mac is asleep, about the only power it uses is for the little pulsing light...not much. It wouldn't even be a blip on the electricity bill.
