EXCELLENT news! Thank you!
I do have the extended warranty for a couple years.

In the Applications folder using Finder, or search for them using Spotlight.

What extension am I looking for when I do a search? I do get a few results for iPhoto. Too many to type out here.

PNG's and Workflow.

Type "iPhoto" in the Spotlight search box & look for it in the Applications section.

Update….
I called Apple and they said that since I bought it open box at Best Buy that I needed to go to Best Buy and ask them to install it or reimburse me for the purchase. I was assured that this is a known issue with Best Buy and open box items.
I haven't called Best Buy but I am guessing they're going to tell me that it's not their problem.

Has anyone else ever had to go through this?

Why don't you try BB first?

I don't know what conditions or guarantees apply to "open box". Does this
mean "sold as seen"?

Do you have access to another Mac?

The Apple rep told me it was still considered "new" and I should get the full iLife (?) suite.
No access to another Mac.

I don't get the spinning colour wheel. But my Safari slows to a crawl
a couple of times a day. Sometimes other programs slow down a little
too, but not like Safari. Activity Monitor shows almost no memory
free (which I've been assured is not a bad thing in itself).

The only thing that works for me is restarting Safari and clearing
out everything. I can reopen all the windows I just closed and still
have lots of memory for hours. Then it happens again.

I do have ClickToPlugin, which I really appreciate. But I regularly
go to pages that use Flash or Shockwave (solitare, jigsaw puzzle,
weather, etc.), and I often keep some of those open till I have to
restart Safari. Just closing those pages doesn't do it. Only
restarting Safari clears out whatever was slowing things down.

(It's not happening right now--I just restarted my computer after
installing a security update.)

As you say, having no free memory is not bad in itself, but do you have a
large amount of Page outs?

Quit all the apps try to repair disk permission.

If it fails download Onyx and clean system and user cache. Restart your Mac.

Still fails backup your safari bookmarks and reset safari.

Good luck.

Yes, before I restarted today my page outs were about 1/3 of my page
ins. Sorry, I don't remember the numbers. It was just the ratio that
stuck in my mind, and it seemed high to me. It had been about a week
since I restarted. (I shut down the last time we had a thunderstorm.)
I can check numbers in a week or two.
