My disk was encrypted and later unencrypted using FileVault.

When trying now to turn on FileVault I get the message:

" FileVault Failed. The target Core Storage volume is already encrypted."

I have searched online and seen that others have had this happen but their situations do not seek similar to mine.

I have repaired the HD using Disk utility and I notice there is a further HD which is greyed out and if I were to to repair it I get the message:

"Repairing volume failed: Invalid request."

Can anyone help? Thank you.

Charles.

Nothing wrong with top posting. Gets the reader to the new info fast, and leaves what you are replying to available to other readers.

I am going to get one of these. How is the performance as I see they are i5 1.3 GHZ.

Is there likely to be a refresh soon or have we already had that this year?

Thanks all

I bought mine when they were released a short time ago. It's an i7, 1.7 GHz & has a 512GB SSD along with 802ac connectivity as does the new Time Capsule that I got at the same time. I like the machine a lot. This is my third Air & I think it's the best so far. It's faster than the previous models & runs substantially cooler when working on processor intensive tasks. The product line has been released each June for the last few years & that was the case this year.

Yes, there was a recent refresh. It's the first Mac to get 11ac Wi-Fi.

How much performance do you need? The Air is about portability, not
performance, but it's more than fast enough for "normal" stuff.

You can see the specs here.

Standard is 1.3 GHz dual core i5. 1.7 GHz dual core i7 is optional.

Definitely slower than a contemporary Macbook Pro.

*Stock* is a dual-core i5.
Build-to-order option is a dual-core i7.

My son has one. The performance is excellent. He is studying to be a software engineer and he often has to compile programs, which is something that can take all night. His MBA is faster than our slightly older iMacs. Unless you are going to be editing homemade movies, or you are rendering 3D images, I don't think that you will be using a program that requires more performance.

Tks Jim I will bench my older wintel laptop as a guide. It's only a coffee table need, web, email occasional Handbrake conversion. Keen to stay with stock CPU as I assume all day battery will reduce with faster CPU although maybe not. If the demand is constant perhaps faster CPU running at less cycles uses same battery ?

Good morning,

I wanted to thank the people who were kind enough to advise me on my recent
post which was really a question on software. Your help plus some browsing
and reading this last couple of days have been just what I needed.

It is my intention to order my iMac tomorrow and with any luck by this time
next week I will be a novice in your world.

Thank you again,

Peter
