With over 500,000 Apps now live for the iPhone, and a large chunk of those being games, the launch of a new iPhone App game is usually not that big-a-deal, especially since many of these new games are trying to replicate the success of some of the more prominent App games. One can only get so excited by the latest Miffed Moggies or Perturbed Pigs before you realise barriers are no longer being broken. Thankfully the launch of new iPhone App game TapGeoHunt is refreshingly different.

One can only get so excited by the latest 'Miffed Moggies' or 'Perturbed Pigs' before you realise barriers are no longer being broken.

Thankfully the launch of new iPhone App game TapGeoHunt see's a refreshingly different approach to great effect. TapGeoHunt is similar to a traditional treasure hunt game, where groups of individuals, or teams, race to find hidden clues or trinkets. The twist being that TapGeoHunt uses Augmented Reality to facilitate the game play. Using the camera in the iPhone the game shows the player what they actually see before them in the real world, but with the addition of a game objects layer overlaid, meaning the player can see treasure chests, zombies, ghosts and more in and about their defined real world play area.

Using simple compass directional controls and distance to next 'Hunt Point' the game allows for seamless game play with the iPhone's built-in capabilities and delivers a more 'playable by all' approach than having to solve clues to find each location.

At the core of the game play each team or individual must get within 10 metres of each 'Hunt Point' to be able to tap the Augmented Reality object, earn points, and reveal more of the game's storyboard. Each game can have as many Hunt Points as you wish and can be placed anywhere you want with simple map and pin controls.

The game provides 4 different hunt themes including Pirates, Zombies, Ghosts and Cops & Robbers, which will provide more than enough variety for regular players, but probably more useful for corporate team building games and promotional events is the game's ability to record videos to be played back at each Hunt Point.

Parents can create a controlled area for their children's hunt games, keeping them within an area that's safe. For workers lunchtime will never be dull again, by creating lunchtime hunts with colleagues, even including places to go to pick up lunch! Create hunts across your park, village, town or city, adding as many teams as you wish, all racing against the clock and each other to get to the finish.

Using the Video functionality is perfect for your organisation's team building motivational exercises, or promotional events. You can record company messages, motivational, or promo videos, to be played to participants at each Hunt Point and set the final Hunt Point, where all participants arrive, to the location of your event or party.

TapGeoHunt creator Ian Naylor said "being a parent I've noticed that these days kids are more and more reaching for their parents iPhones and submersing themselves in popular games such as AngryBirds. I wanted to create a game that was more inclusive and gets you off your bum and out into the real world."

The idea of MMOGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Games) is not new, but typically a MMOG locks the player in front of their gaming console and submerses them in a Persistent or Virtual world. With TapGeoHunt, you're playing in the real world, using Augmented Reality technology to map the game objects wherever you choose.

Today, entertainment software company Zyqued Inc. released Dishum, a casual game available for free download for iOS devices like iPad and iPhone, Windows Phone, Android Mobile Devices, and PCs and Macs. Dishum, Zyqued's latest release, pits the player against an alien invasion force. The player must defeat the enemy's flotilla of floating heads, shooting around enemy's force fields. Gameplay is intuitive, but the later levels become extremely challenging.

Franklin Park, New Jersey - Dishum, a casual game for mobile devices and PCs, is now available for free download. Released today by Zyqued Inc., Dishum features addictive yet easy-to-learn gameplay and worldwide competition for top scores.

Dishum, Zyqued's latest release, pits the player against an alien invasion force. The player must defeat the enemy's flotilla of floating heads, shooting around enemy's force fields. Gameplay is intuitive, but the later levels become extremely challenging. With limited time and ammo, the player's skills will be tested in both of the game modes, "Classic", which allows the player to start from any completed level, and "Challenge Mode", in which the player has just one shot to rack up as many points as possible.

According to Joseph Tharayil, Creative Director at Zyqued Inc., one of the most exciting of Dishum's features is its competition system. He says "When you're playing Dishum, you're trying to beat your own best scores, but you're also competing against players from Iowa to India. To make it even more interesting, you can only submit your scores from Challenge mode, using either your Facebook account or Zyqued Games Gamer Account."

Dishum can be played on the iPhone, iPad, and Android Tablets, as well as Android-powered mobile phones and Windows Phones. In its mobile iteration, Dishum is a tilt-based tap-to-shoot game. According to Joseph Tharayil, "The intuitive controls and short levels make Dishum great for fast, on-the-go play, while the ability to access your Gamer Account and upload your score from your mobile device add an exciting competitive element".

According to Technical Director Joy Sebastian, Zyqued will be releasing regular updates for Dishum. " Updates will include new features, additional levels, and new gameplay modes. We will soon be starting monthly contests in which players will have opportunity to win attractive prizes."

Dishum is available for free download from Apple's App Store, the Android Market, and the Windows Phone WP App Hub. For PCs and Macs, Dishum can be downloaded from Zyqued's website.

Their film, Mirror Mirror, has been entered into the 168 Hour Film Project, a Hollywood film incubator that attracts 70+ teams each year. The project is a competition in which production teams have exactly one week - no more, no less - to film and edit an 11-minute movie.

Boston, Massachusetts - EditShare, the technology leader in shared media storage and end-to-end tapeless workflow solutions, recently joined up with Doug Braddock and his production crew to sponsor the team's efforts in completing a film in just seven days. Their film, Mirror Mirror, has been entered into the 168 Hour Film Project, a Hollywood film incubator that attracts 70+ teams each year. The project is a competition in which production teams have exactly one week - no more, no less - to film and edit an 11-minute movie.

"There was an enormous amount of work to get through. Planning and preparation had to be meticulous and there was no latitude for serious technical problems to occur. We had to hand in our master exactly one week (168 hours) from rolling-camera," says Braddock. "If we were one second late, we would have been disqualified."

Braddock's production team consists of about 30 people, some with decades of industry experience, others just a few years out of film school. For the 168-hour project, they worked with a cast of four, plus six extras. With only a few days to shoot and edit the entire piece, the team employed EditShare advanced tapeless workflow solutions: Flow (asset management) and Energy Series (shared storage), with support from Ark (back up and archiving). "The fact that we could all access the same footage simultaneously made a huge difference in our efficiency," Braddock says. "We had synced rushes and QC tests done throughout the shoot and just a short time behind camera. By the end of the first editing day, I had an assembly ready for the composer to start work."

Mirror Mirror, written by California-based writer April Manor, is the story of a teenage girl battling low self-esteem, who discovers her true worth through a special mirror. Though he's been credited as film editor on five features and has overseen drama projects in post-production, Braddock, who's been working in film and television for 25 years, stepped into the role of producer for a drama for the first time on Mirror Mirror. "We have a great script, and I wanted to produce it so that at least one viewer somewhere in the world will get helped by the story," he says. "I also see the project providing further credits, experience and additional international exposure for each of the cast and crew."

"Taking on a film project with only one week to complete is a very impressive feat," said Andy Liebman, President, EditShare. Using Funi Player's new technology, which requires iOS 5.0 or later, songs are all playable in stereo sound with or without effects, creating a true stereo sound editing experience.

When users launch Funi Player (pronounced Funny), they are taken to a screen that features the same menu as the iOS Music player, and it contains their entire media library. Listeners may choose a song from Playlists, Artists, Songs, or Albums. Once a song is selected, users have the option of listening to the song as it was originally recorded in Normal Play, or listening to music in one of Funi Player's innovative music effect modes including: Acappella Effect, Vocal Removed Effect, Reverse Play and Speed Control Play.

When listening to a song in Acappella Effect, the instruments are removed leaving only the voice of the singer or singers. Isolating the voice gives singers the opportunity to hear intricate vocals, without the distraction of the instrumental tracks. While the song is playing in Acappella Effect, users may pause, play, turn the effect on and off, and record the song in this effect.

Musicians may also listen to only the instrumentals of a song in the setting Vocal Removed Effect. This setting, which removes the vocals from a track, includes the option to play, pause, record and turn the effect on and off. Perfect for karaoke, users may use this setting to play the instrumentals of a track while adding their own vocals.

The Reverse Play option of Funi Player takes a song, vocals and instruments and plays the entire song backwards. The record option allows users to record this different version of a song. At any time during this effect, users may play, pause, or turn the effect on or off.

The Speed Control Play option gives users even more creativity with songs in their music library. Users may adjust the speed of a song by slowing it down by increments of .1 times to a maximum of .5 times slower speed. Users may also increase the speed of a song in .1 times increments to a maximum speed of 2.0 times.

Funi Player includes many additional features including links to YouTube Videos, Lyrics, and Ringtones in iTunes. The YouTube Videos tab takes the user to a list within the app of related YouTube Videos. The Lyrics tab takes the user to an in-app page of lyrics for the particular song. The Ringtone in iTunes tab launches iTunes and takes users to a list of related available ringtones.

Funi Player lets users share their edited musical creations. Users may record music with enhanced effects and send as a WAV file via email. Funi Player also supports AAC compression, allowing very large recordings to be sent via email with ease.

In addition, the app supports the following song play features: play and pause, play collections, play next, play previous, scrubbing, now playing button, searching, index, lyrics, repeat, shuffle, background play and remote control. Once a user has synced a device to iTunes, Funi Player updates the media library automatically, allowing for seamless integration with the user's media selections.

A new single-player arcade-style adventure game for iOS and Android devices, Joustin' Beaver allows fans to help their favorite pop star poke fun at the overbearing and aggressive paparazzi. The Joustin' Beaver game is a parody and is protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution. Nowhere in the game is Justin Bieber's name, photo, image, or life story mentioned.

Jacksonville, Florida - Lawyers for Justin Bieber have sent a "Cease and Desist" order to the maker of an iPhone game app called "Joustin' Beaver". The game features a cartoon beaver that floats down a river knocking camera-wielding hogs (Phot-Hogs) into the water with his lance. The app is being target by Bieber's legal team for possible infringement, among other things.

"The App utilizes our Client's name and likeness and portrays a beaver character based on our Client as part of the App's game play... You have no right to utilize our Client's name, image, likeness, life story or identity in or in connection with the App," wrote Bieber attorney Aaron Rosenberg.

A spokesperson for RC3, Inc. parried, "The Joustin' Beaver game is a parody and is protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution. Nowhere in the game is Justin Bieber's name, photo, image, or life story mentioned. We were surprised to learn that in addition to being a talented musician, Mr. Bieber is also a fictional beaver."

Burst! 4.0 is available for download on Friday, February 24, in the iTunes AppStore.

Marshall, Michigan - WickeyWare, the small indie game studio with a big hit, announces a major update for the hit game Burst! Durring its initial release in late 2011, Burst! spent multiple weeks in the top ten of multiple iTunes charts, and currently boasts over 400,000 downloads and 120,000 players on Apple's Game Center.

Burst! tells the story of young Chester who one day awakens to find the skies of his simple world filled with colorful balloons. On investigating, he discovers that these balloons are not as innocent as they appear. Chester must use the special weapons he finds along the way to clear his skies in pursuit of the dark villain Lyndon and his mysterious motives.

"We loved making and playing this game," says Tim Wickey of WickeyWare, "and there is just so much more of Chester's story to be told." Chester's story picks up after he has destroyed Lyndon's factory and has taken shelter in the adjacent forest. There he discovers that not all of Lyndon's traps have been destroyed. Now faced with some of the most diabolical puzzles that Lyndon has ever crafted, Chester constructs a new radar arrow to level the playing field.

The new, much anticipated, "Desidious Forest" map-pack is included for free to those who have already purchased Burst! "We don't want to do updates with just bug fixes," says Wickey, "We always try to provide new content for our fans." For the first time, players can now skip up to three levels for free. If three skips aren't enough, players can purchase additional skip-packs.

Burst is a puzzle-styled action-adventure with complete 2D physics simulation. Arrows can be launched with the games signature swipe gesture, or with the more traditional pull-back-to-shoot method. There are now six map packs and 120 levels. As Chester advances, there are special arrows - including the brand new radar arrow - and new opportunities to improve his score. He has unlimited regular arrows available to him, but the less he uses, the better his score and the more bursts he receives.

Durham-based Baked Ham Games today introduces Narratavius Story Engine 1.0, their new interactive fiction app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Narratavius is a free app for playing a variety of original text-based adventure games. Different stories or adventures from any number of independent authors and genres can be downloaded and played. From there, the user can engage in an unlimited variety of quests, very much in the style of a choose-your-own-adventure.

Durham, North Carolina - Bringing an enjoyable story and game experience, and giving that "old school" text adventure feel - that is the goal of the Narratavius app, now available for free in the App Store. Created by Michael Ham of Baked Ham Games, the app tries to recreate the fun and feel of text-based adventures from the early days of computing.

"I got the idea when I heard someone say, 'You know what I'd like to see? Something like 'Zork' for the iPhone.' "said Ham.

The Narratavius app is actually an application where different stories or adventures from any number of independent authors and genres can be downloaded and played. From there, the user can engage in an unlimited variety of quests, very much in the style of a choose-your-own-adventure.

"Narratavius is our most ambitious project to date." Said Ham. "It combines the efforts of about a dozen content authors, a dedicated graphic designer, and our main programmer. We are very excited for our authors to be able to reach the 250 million iOS device owners already around the world, as well as the hundreds of millions that analysts expect to become owners of these devices in 2012."

Funding for the app was done via a Kickstarter campaign, which allows for an average person to contribute funds to the effort in return for various benefits once the project is complete. The method has become extremely popular over the past year, funding a wide variety of projects.

"The idea was extremely well received. Users ended up donating 173% of our funding goals."

Ham has a number of stories ready for download upon release including Castle Wynd, a gritty fantasy adventure, Bayou Lights, a detective story set in the Louisiana Bayou, and Wheels Within: A fast-paced action story in a post-apocalyptic future.
