Good Question!

Under SnowLeopard at least, I checked out the printer menu and there is
no apparent provision for a return address.
There is a workaround though...

Under the Style setting for Mailing Labels and under the Label tab near
the bottom is an option for "Image" and a "Set" button.
Here you would place/link to an image that prints at the left side of
your chosen label.
You would create an image of your return address (and allow white space
at the right side) with a screen grab or other image editing software,
save as a JPEG, and place it into your label.
I tinkered with this and it does work, though you do not get any options
for placing it on the label where you might really want it.
So other solutions that are more customizable would be your better option.

Howdy.

I considered the process of adding a custom image with my return
address but it's really cumbersome. I do this for a small custom image
sometimes - just a graphic.

But since it's easy to print an envelop with Address Book that does
include the return address maybe it's possible to create a custom
envelop layout that matches the size of a label and thus could include
a return address.

Just a thought.

If you print from within AddressBook, and select "Envelope", it will print your chosen sender data in the return address position, and the sendee information in correct position for the envelope size you designate.

I suppose you could then feed in appropriately sized labels instead of envelopes.

Ah, good timing. I was trying to figure out how to print labels from Pages last night as I used to do with MS Word. Thanks for this info.

Wacom talked me through driver reinstallation again.
The tablet responds as if it is fine according to their
tech support. It's the pen that will not show in System Prefs.

You know I've never used this tablet or pen, just stored it.
Maybe I dropped the pen box some how. Think I'll look inside
it while waiting on a new pen.

I doubt that you could have damaged it by dropping...there isn't much to it to break. I've been using them for years, and have dropped them countless times without any problem. If it has a removable tip, you might try pulling it out (carefully using something to grab it with) and putting it back in...probably won't have any affect. Maybe it's just a defective stylus.

Time Machine Lion - accessing user prefs?

My bookmarks got messed up on a computer running 10.7.3. I want to restore bookmarks only from a prior back, but TM does not give me access to ~/Library.

Are there any 3rd party utilities that will do this for me?

Thanks,

Bill

There are at least 19 ways to make ~/Library visible.

Click on the desktop, then press <Option> and in the "Go" menu you will have Library available as a choice.

Once it is visible, your should be able to open it in a Finder window, then activate Time Machine, and review old versions.

I don't think you need one. I gather you are using the Time Machine application to open the Time Machine?
I suggest you just mount the Time Machine disk on your desktop and open it. In backups.backupdb--><your computer name> scroll down to "Latest" and in there go to <Hard Drive>/Users/<yourusername>/Library/

Window display messed up

Posted by: "Patsy Price" beyondwords@shaw.ca   beyondwords2

Wed Feb 22, 2012 3:26 pm (PST)

Today I applied the latest security update to Snow Leopard (Security
Update 2012-001, version 1.1, for Snow Leopard Macs), figuring that
it was finally safe to do so. And a few days ago I installed Glims in
Safari. Those are the only changes I've made recently.

Today, after installing the security update and restarting, window
display and behaviour has changed in Eudora and Safari (that's all
I've used so far). I don't like it!

In Eudora, most windows have shrunk to just a few lines and columns,
and when I first restarted, they were neatly offset vertically and
horizontally (I can't remember the word for that arrangement). And it
keeps happening. I want my Eudora windows sized and arranged the way
I left them! (And yes, I do want all those windows to open when
Eudora starts.)

Every time I restart Safari, any windows that were previously open
are there again, but now opened in tabs. I definitely don't want
anything in tabs that wasn't in tabs before. And I'd prefer that
Safari open with just one blank window rather than what was open when
I quit Safari.

I remember reading something about the Safari window behaviour in
Lion, but I don't have Lion, so didn't pay much attention.

How can I get Snow Leopard to revert to previous behaviour with windows?

Patsy

Okay. I found the culprit in Safari. It was a setting in Glims that
was causing Safari to restore tabs. So I've turned that off.

Now how do I get my Eudora windows to stay as I have sized and arranged them?

Howdy.

Drag the windows to where you want them and immediately quit Eudora??

Actually no idea. Eudora was discontinued about 6 years ago and hasn't
been updated since then. It's an orphan application.

There must be something that I not getting. Who, besides iPad users, needs iCloud? Isn the answer for most people just better local storage (as an SSD may provide)?

What about security? How safe is the transmission of data through the ether? There is a recent New York Times article about data-transmission insecurity. The article pointed out that it is recommended to those traveling to China/Russia that they not take their personal devices with them, as those devices can be compromised, as has happened in the past.

The compromising of data security can happen anywhere, even with encryption, though perhaps less so. If compromising can happen in China, then it can happen in North America.

Recently a priest was busted at the Ottawa airport when kiddie porn --no idea how anybody knew-- was found on his laptop. It occurred to me that people who do a lot of international traveling are going to start parking their kiddie porn in the sky, thus (presumably) leaving them empty-handed, which would be a good thing if one is on the wrong side of the law.

Local storage is of no use at all if, say, your house burns down.
Apple encrypts all transmissions to and from iCloud. Until we hear otherwise (and you may be sure we would), I will trust that security.

iTunes a/o Lion a/o IOS 7 issues?

Posted by: "Budd T" n7eoj@yahoo.com   n7eoj

Thu Feb 23, 2012 4:38 am (PST)

A cursory search didn't show any comments along this line, but I've been noticing since either Lion u/g and/or IOS5 and/or iTunes u/d that the Store seems to have forgotten I have previously bought a song from an album. I now have duplicate copies of a couple of songs from different albums because of that.

I have noticed these changes since upgrading to Lion and/or IOS5 and/or iTunes 10
I'm not sure if this started after Lion upgrade, iTunes upgrade or both

Even though my iPod Touch, iPad and iMac are all set to automatically launch iTunes when either is plugged in, I have to manually launch iTunes. I have reset settings on all three, but iTunes still requires a manual launch.

iTunes used to keep track of and display songs I had previously purchased. Recently, I've noticed it rarely displays whether I've purchased a song. For a while, iTunes would popup a notice I already had that song, asking if I really wanted to purchase a song a second time. Now it has also allowed me to re-purchase songs I already have. The only way I know now is finding two copies in my Music list with different purchase dates.
This past week, a new irritation has occurred. Every time I wake up my iPad, I am prompted for my iTunes password.
