Yes, another good idea. dragging the group name from the address book to the address field also works and it also shows up expanded.
Thanks.

Make sure the power cord is plugged in all of the way on the iMac side.
Power cord may be bad, power supply may have gone south.

The OP stated that he plugged it in elsewhere and it did work. Sometimes totally unplugging a machine will reset the power manager. Conceivably this is exactly what happened. Of course I don't know if he ever turned the power strip off with its switch, which, itself obviously, would have unplugged the machine.

Howdy.
Hal had some good suggestions but one he may have missed is the SMC
Reset routine.
Read this article on resetting SMC and then click the Intel Reset SMC
link at bottom of article:

Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
<http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US >
- - - - -
The article describes several problem symptoms that could indicate the
need to reset SMC.
The SMC reset on newer Macs often involves unplugging the power cord
and waiting for a few seconds. You might have perhaps inadvertently
done that.

I suspect that completely unplugging it then plugging it in again reset the SMC, and even plugging it back in where it was would probably have worked.

I feel strongly that this is a problem that can be fixed without $$. Others have made suggestions that will get it resolved. Is the computer you back up the phone to a laptop? If you don't want to deal with fixing this issue yourself take the phone & computer to an Apple store.
Upgrading to a newer model has associated costs re. renewing your plan commitment for another x years, etc. I too feel it best to keep the phone as long as one can. But that's just me...

on the screen there are two options
1) change password
2) create apple id
I want to use my gmail e-mail account.
If I select the second option I will then have two apple ID's. How do I delete the one now being used. It ends in @earthlink.net.
Thanks in advance.
