Chapel Hill, North Carolina - The life of a coed at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill may have been spared if she were able to use the Predator Alert iPhone App that lets predetermined contacts learn precisely where a victim or perpetrator has been at any moment.

Eve Carson, student body president at UNC, was taken from her home after 3 a.m. by two men who drove her to an ATM machine and then shot her five times. Before she was shot and killed, Eve asked her two assailants if they would pray with her.

Carson could have used Predator Alert App (formerly named IcePic) to trigger an immediate email alert along with her GPS location and a Google Map location that could have resulted in her assailants being arrested. The alert can be sent whenever an uncomfortable situation occurs, not just when an actual crime happens.

Predator Alert App's purpose is to assist anyone who suspects they are about to become a victim of kidnapping, rape, robbery or assault by having then simply point their iPhone at the suspicious person and push a button on their iPhone. The Predator Alert App will immediately email a picture of the bad guy along with the GPS location pinpointed on a Google Map to contacts pre-selected by the owner.

A secondary use of Predator Alert App is to confirm the location of your teen or child with the Google Map sent to your email along with the photo. After downloading Predator Alert App for only $2.99, the user simply enters email addresses of as many contacts as they wish. That information is saved for use whenever the owner is being approached by a suspicious person.
Even if the perpetrator smashes the phone, the photo is already gone from the iPhone and has been sent to the pre-selected emails.

"A person with ill intent, such as a child-napper, mugger or rapist, will almost certainly abandon their plans because the chance of them being caught is almost assured," says Jeff Neumeyer, developer of Predator Alert App. "Predator Alert App can actually prevent a crime from happening as opposed to a great program like Amber Alert which is activated after a child is abducted or reported missing. Predator Alert App could be the most important app written for the iPhone because it can save lives today."

"This application assumes you have limited time or maybe even limited motor function to pull anything off quickly," says Jerard Hill, host of The Daily App Show. "Predator Alert App does it quickly and then it's going to send an email alerting the recipient with the image you just took along with the coordinates so they can find the user. Predator Alert App is a great way to take advantage of what the iphone has to offer to perhaps save you or someone that you love in a dangerous situation."

Because the photo can be taken silently, without the camera click sound, a user can press the Predator Alert App icon button and use the few seconds that it takes for the phone's camera to auto-focus, to hold the phone up to their ear and position it for a picture of the suspect without alerting them or offending them. "Since the email recipients are selected in advance there's no fumbling with who's going to get the email of the photos," says Neumeyer. The photos and location are on their way automatically.

"A suspicious person could range from someone who just gives you the creeps to someone whose behavior causes you to fear they may be intending to commit a crime, whether it's theft, violence or even terrorism," adds Neumeyer.
Even if a person does not have an iPhone, or doesn't purchase Predator Alert App, once criminals become aware of the app, they will flee when any phone is aimed at them. Most criminals will not stop and second guess whether or not someone actually has an iPhone equipped with Predator Alert App.

"People are also finding other uses for Predator Alert App," says Neumeyer. "A couple of real estate agents suggested a way they'll use it and a hiker told me he could have used Predator Alert App to send his location when he was lost in the woods. He had no way of telling anyone where he was. And some college students intend to use Predator Alert App to keep family and friends in the loop on their vacation across Europe."

Therefore, TappyTaps implemented functions that helps your child to stay asleep. Read in landscape orientation, each self-illuminated page contains so much detail that readers will find additional layers of graphical and emotional content with every reading. Some pages include both independent and interactive animation, and others only user-activated, interactive animation.

Each page of the book has a tiny curl in the lower right corner for touch-activated page turns. A variety of watercolor papers are used: very fine texture for the King and palace, medium rough for wide angle scenes, and very rough for close-ups and outdoor scenes. Some paintings are rough around their perimeter and smooth inside. Great care has been taken in creating and reproducing these expressive paintings, whose depth heightens the feelings aroused by this classic story. There is a sense of dramatic reality that cannot be duplicated with computer graphics, gradients, and shadows. The painting style is highly realistic for a children's book, though facial expressions and points of view are exaggerated.

Readers are encouraged to explore each page with their fingers. There are no hints or indications, but on every page, the reader can interact with the paintings. A small weather vane may be made to rotate, a cat squeal, a head bow, a clock's hands move, particles of magic dust appear. Even complex animations can be activated by touching the right part of the page. The illustrations on many pages are also jigsaw puzzles, as indicated by a small puzzle piece icon on the bottom of the page. Unlike many such puzzles, these are of moderate difficulty with 20 pieces each. Pieces lock into place even if no connecting pieces are nearby. Once dragged on to the board, pieces rotate to their correct orientation.

The quality of the voiceover is at the same high standard as the graphics. The male narrator reads the text without condescension or affectation. He reads at a slow pace, but the style is ideal for the narrator - believable, effective, and entertaining. As he reads, each word of text turns red for a moment. As children become increasingly familiar with the text, they may enjoy hearing it in another language. Cinderella by BST is one of those rare storybooks that will be enjoyed equally by parent and child.

Immediately, any audio playing on the iDevice takes on the characteristic AM sound. Frequency response is reduced from 20 - 20,000 Hz down to 300 - 3,000 Hz. Dynamic range drops from 100 db down to 40 db. Even listening on an iPhone's small built-in speaker, the change is unmistakable.

Touching the screen brings up two continuously variable sliders, Ambience and Static Noise. Ambience adds a quasi-reverb effect as intermodulation distortion and the sound of other stations on nearby frequencies come in an out randomly. Static adds the crisp, intermittent sound of raw electricity, AM's rendering of lightning, compressors, and car ignitions. Once the app is closed, audio returns to its normal high quality mode - the operation is non-destructive, and the effect is applied real-time.

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak initially bonded over their mutual obsession with Bob Dylan, the former an obsessive collector of Dylan concert bootlegs.

"I was really nervous, because he was one of my heroes, and I was also afraid that he wouldn't be really smart anymore, but I was delighted. He was everything I'd hoped."

They met up the next time that Dylan came through town, and Jobs told him that his favorite song was "One Too Many Mornings�, only for Dylan to play it that night. "He's one of my all-time heroes," said Jobs. "My love for him has grown over the years, it's ripened. I can't figure out how he did it when he was so young."
