Fwd: SRX1167965371ID - Microsoft Silverlight for Macintosh Technical

Posted by: "Doug Yelmen" dougyelmen@earthlink.net   dougyelmen

Fri Dec 23, 2011 7:22 pm (PST)

i am posting this as a future reference. a short report. i had silverlight working on both
Safari and Chrome. then, something happened, either my doing (maybe) or something
went down through a combination of influences. at any rate, i could no longer watch streaming
video on my iMac. i can on my MacBook (SL). but, it is not a Lion issue, which a lot of people seem
to think, as i googles the problem and read a couple of "boards." i also talked with Netflix. the first woman
blew me off. the second woman tried really hard, but her help didn't fix the issue.
i had written MS in the meantime, probably yesterday. today is the day or night before Xmas Eve, and i want to
point out that MS responded within 24 hours as promised. what i got was a completely different direction than going
to Library/Internet Plugins and removing and trashing Silverlight. i did that several times. i also trashed adobe's Flash
(i mean, who knew?).
so, what follows below is MS's response to my problem. and it worked--i only needed to use the first section
of the reply. so, i thought i would share the whole email. who know who it might help. i

Re: list comeon ???

I'm sure we'll get one of these phishing emails sooner or later.....
just click delete..... and black list the address it came from.

If you are interested though, without clicking on the link within the
email, you can read about the "scam" (let's call it that) by googling
"peerfly.com scam" in the google search. It seems to be a whole lot like
a pyramid scheme suckering your friends into clicking or filling stuff
in - seems to want to capitalize on clicking those links and getting
paid the chump change as a result. Seems to be this pay per click
scheme, on top of that if you con a bunch of your friends and other
emails you have phished into doing so, you might be "rewarded" with the
carrot they dangled before you.

Top of that, "Jeff L" could not / did not even use his legit email
address.... had to piggy back on Scott Essex' - kinda shows you how
illegitimate the scheme is from the get go.
Don't be a O------
(that's a sucker/lollipop) - just click delete and save your time....

Like I said, this is the third of 3 yahoo groups I'm on that has been harvested, since October.

And why I was upset when it was decided to drop the probation/moderation on this list.

No Harry, they did not take off. They just dropped this fake user name and will use many, many more on future spam and phishing.

One email is not enough to figure out their pattern of spam or phishing, to write a set of Rules to handle them, but you will see it soon.

Oneal, they didn't hack the list or anything, they just signed up, harvested the e-ddresses and names of the frequent posters. That is the bonus you get for being a regular poster.

Safari window cascade down (not sideways)?

Posted by: "DaveC" davec2468@yahoo.com   davec2468

As usual, I did something to change Safari's behavior, but it wasn't
something overt. It must have been inadvertent.

Up until recently Safari would cascade new windows oriented so that
the left edge of the new window is slightly to the right of the left
edge of the previous window. This leaves a bit of the underlying
window visible so you can close it by clicking the buttons, or bring
it to the front by clicking in the content area.

Not Safari's behavior is to cascade new windows so that the top edge
of the new window is slightly below the top edge of the previous
window.

Anybody know how to control Safari's behavior in this respect?

Thanks, and
Happy Holidays,
Dave

It's official now. This e-ddress is getting spam and phishing from harvesting from all 3 of the yahoo group lists I'm on. Lovely!

Hester

I have been a member of this group for some time but don't post much. As a relative newcomer to all things Mac it seems a problem is posted and solved before I get it posted.

This group is more civil than many when a problem thread ends without the answer shown. To use your terminology "This is getting to be a pita. It's solved again, but irritating."

I am sure most of us in the group would like to know the solution to your problem of duplex printing going away with every software update. Please consider this as "Just a point of information."

How to reinstall Windows using Bootcamp?

Posted by: "vixpix" vixpix@frontiernet.net   nyskater

I recently migrated from a white 27" iMac to a 27" silver, shiny screen iMac. Both are Intel and Snow Leopard. I was able to use Bootcamp to access the partition that had Windows on it, but on the silver one I cannot. I just get a message that states that Windows is not genuine and goes no further. Yes, it is not genuine, but it does not give me a chance to install an original. I have no idea why Windows doesn't open on this white computer. My friend, who gave it to me, said it didn't work for him either when he owned it. (We both had used the same Windows disk.).

Any thoughts on how to get into that partition or how to reinstall Windows on it?

You don't mention which version of Windows. Lion will only install Windows 7. I believe that if a Win XP partition existed during the upgrade to Lion, it will still be accessible. The new Bootcamp software does NOT support XP, however.

Best bet is to uses Bootcamp Assistant to reinstall.

I know I used to be able to just boot from a Win DVD and install to a partition. That hasn't worked for me. I wound up having to use BA to install. Found this out the hard way, after trying to install Win 7 the 'old' way twice. It didn't work that way.

Thanks, Harry. Did you mean to say Snow Leopard? I'm not using Lion.
