I recorded the sound and emailed it to myself. I then changed it from .m4a to .m4r. When I clicked it to play, it went into iTunes, and then I just did a sync. It was there in my sounds. Only could have been easier if I didn't have to record the sound! :)

Well, I'm not entirely serious with that subject line. What do members

Either getting a 'page not found' or the home page of the company you're referring to.

The links are broken, however, I copied and pasted the whole link into Safari each time.

Milestones.  Jack Goldman dies at age 90

Howdy.

Jacob (Jack) Goldman died on December 22 at age 90.

Goldman, as Xerox Chief Scientist, hired the folks who founded the
research lab at Xerox called Xerox Palo Alto Research Center or PARC.

Concepts and inventions such as Ethernet, the laser printer, the
graphical user interface (GUI), and a sort of fully developed object
oriented programing language were worked on or more fully realized at
PARC.

PARC is where Steve Jobs is said to have first seen a GUI which
inspired him to create Macintosh.

My wife worked at PARC for 20 years. This will be a shock to her.

There's a fascinating book about PARC, Dealers of Lightning by
Michael Hiltzik. I highly recommend it.

Howdy.

TidBITS is reporting that Intuit may have reconsidered its terrible
decision to abandon the Macintosh market and to produce an update
compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

'Tis true, Dan. Here's the text of the notice I received earlier
today:

Dear Quicken Mac Customer:

As a fellow Mac fan and customer, I wanted to personally introduce
myself, and share some highlights of our Apple-related efforts with you.

I recently became General Manager of the Personal Finance Group at
Intuit, responsible for Quicken and Mint.com. Intuit's 25 years of
leadership in personal financial management software makes me excited
to lead this team and I am committed to creating products to help you
reach your financial goals.

I recognize, however, that we have not always delivered on this
promise to Quicken Mac customers.

As you may know, Quicken for Mac 2007 does not currently work on
Apple's latest operating system, Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion). I understand
the frustration this may have caused you and have put a team in place
to address this issue. I am happy to announce that we will have a
solution that makes Quicken 2007 for Mac "Lion-compatible" by early
spring. There are still details to be worked out, so I ask your
continued patience as we work through these. In the meantime, you can
find more information on our Mac FAQ page.

Working toward a Quicken for Mac 2007 solution is just a first step in
winning back your confidence.

We are expanding our development team to continue our renewed focus on
personal finance solutions that suit the needs of our Mac customers.
As we develop solutions, we'll be looking to you and the rest of our
Mac customers for ideas and feedback.

I understand we have a way to go, but I wanted to start by
communicating our commitment to Mac and look forward to sharing the
details with you as they emerge.

Thank you for your continued loyalty to Quicken.

Sincerely,

Aaron Forth
General Manager, Intuit Personal Finance Group

Yeah, LMAO when I read it.

They think that after basically dropping Mac development 4 years ago, giving terrible customer support for years before that, and year after year making changes so that they are not compatible from year to year to the point that financial institutions have to revamp their sites to support Quicken, that we will come back because of a simple email.

Now that the have sat on their behinds to the point that their product no longer works on the current Mac OS. Five months after it's introduction, and probably closer to a year after they knew the OS was going to change, they plan to have an upgrade ready in 3 to 6 months from now.

I had a good laugh.

I looked briefly at Mint until I saw that it wanted all my passwords to all my accounts, so that all my finances are on their servers. No way. Then I saw they were owned by Intuit. No way in heck!

Oddly the calculator on my iPhone (iOS 5) is much closer to the one in 10.5
