I wish. I used to reset my Cellular Usage stats each month and by the
time I was into my 4th movie (during the first week) I was well over
2GB. Maybe they've improved their compression. I haven't reset my
stats in a while. Easy enough to check. I'll reset my stats in Jan and
run three or four movies back to back.

Sometimes the MUG group has How To Do certain things...that are way over my head.  I've been a member for one year and find that the more I have used my MAC and iPhone, the more I understand.  Most of our speakers are really good.  I enjoy the meetings very much.  The president or any member is more than willing to answer questions...The Senior center should be good for your dad, the classes will probably be more "hands on"...tell him not to get discouraged...the old dogs can learn new tricks.

He doesn't get a lot out of the speakers. He doesn't understand a lot of it. So, he's going to take Mac classes at his local senior center. I'm really happy for him.

Brent,

It wasn't so much that I was trying to use a personal definition as much as trying to explain why I misunderstood what was being said. But now I know the correct term I will use it from now on.

I will be going to an orientation class at my local Verizon store later this mooring. I will ask them about the mail function. Someone mentioned finding a Mac User Group, there is one not to far from where I live, I will check them out. Also I will look into what classes the nearest Apple store has.

Charles,

If you use personal definitions for things like turning the phone off, you will have problems when you ask for help.

In Safari, the book icon is the bookmarks or favorites.

I don't follow you when you say you touched Mail on the upper right. How did you get there?

If you have not set up Mail, that might be the a set up page. I think what you mean by preloaded email, is the Mail application.

If there is an Apple Store near you, it might make it a lot easier for you if you check if they have a short class on how to use the iPhone. Hands on and face to face make things a lot easier for new users. Once you get some of the basics under your belt, you will be able to look up much of the rest.

I'm no youngster either. The kids grew up with this stuff, we have to learn it.

Good, all those can be good assistance. I personally shy away from the cell providers for how to use Apple software, only be cause there is not quality assurance to the information they give out and there are often ulterior motives involved.

I just think you need a little face to face time for some instruction. Someone suggested private Apple training, but I don't think you need that. They regularly schedule small group training on the basics at the Apple Stores if you are lucky to have one near by.

Enjoy your class at Verizon, and I hope you get a good instructor.

In case of yahoo, I also face this problem. My solution is to press "go" on softkeyboard after entering the password. Thus that bar does not affect me.

Sometimes the "bottom bar" on webpages is not at the bottom of the page, but "floating" over information or on top of fill in boxes. (I.e. Yahoo sign-in page--the "bar" is on top of box to click on after I fill in user name & password. Another site I need to use often, the "bar" is on top of the box a user number goes in.) The "bar" is usually the copyright info, contact info, etc of the website. Thanks!

It depends on which printer model you have. As far as I know only a few of them will print directly from an iPhone. Try going to the Cannon web site to get info on your particular model. It should mention wireless printing to iOS if it is available.

Here's a link that might help. It explains AirPrint and gives a list of printers which support it.

Did you connect the iPhone to a different computer than the one you had

On my iTunes it says "tones" and that section is under both the iPhone and in the library section too. I'm not sure which section you drag things to to install them.

iTunes doesn't recognize phone, sort of

Posted by: "Ken Bandy" kbandy@iatse30.org   kbandy

Sat Dec 17, 2011 7:12 am (PST)

This morning, I had a notice on my Windows desktop to update iTunes, so I
dutifully did as instructed, and updated iTunes to 10.5.2.11. I got a
dialog window to reboot my PC for the iTunes update to complete and did the
reboot. I am running Windows 7, 64 bit version. After the iTunes update,
when I try to sync my iPhone 4 with iTunes wirelessly, the iPhone didn't see
the PC, and vice versa. I re-booted the iP4, with no change. I plugged the
iP4 into the PC using the sync cable, and iTunes recognized the phone by the
name I have given it, but instead of starting a sync, in iTunes it gives me
the screen that says "This computer has previously been synced with an
iPhone or another iOS device." and gives me the option of setting my phone
up from scratch or from backups of my phone. I have tried using the back
ups (a couple of different backups), a few times, and after a few minutes of
working, and giving indications that everything is going as it should, I get
the same screen on iTunes.

There are a couple of interesting twists here: my phone is working
perfectly, no problems with it at all, it just isn't syncing with the PC;
second, I also sync my iPad1 with this PC, and it syncs up just fine!

I haven't tried the option of setting my iPhone up as a new iPhone yet, not
wanting to waste a couple of hours getting everything set back up, but that
may be my only alternative. I have run the device connectivity and device
sync tests available in iTunes, and everything comes back OK. Any other
thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Ken

I had a similar experience doing the same iTunes upgrade. It recognized the
iPhone but did not read the internal flash drive correctly. I wound up
shutting down the PC, not just rebooting, and when I ran iTunes after
booting up all was ok. There is a difference between a "warm" reboot and a
shutdown and boot up. The first only reloads the OS and apps. The second
also resets hardware.

Here is the link to the fix for Windows computers:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567?viewlocale=en_US

Then choose: "Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS)"

Mine did not have the "Stop" option and so I just hit Start and followed the instructions.
