I just guess that they fixed it on iOS 5 since it comes from factory with
volume buttons to take picture. Would be funny if you use a default way
(buttons) of iOS 5 to take pictures and they come up the wrong way!
Since the iphone has a big screen and you can take pictures anyway you like,
different from a regular camera which you will probabily never never use it
upside down, iOS should have the option to lock the camera orientation, for
even those who like to take pictures using the regular way (touching the
screen) with the right thumb or the left thumb...
The funny part is when you view the iphone they all show the right position
(up) regardless of the orientation you took the shot.
I´ve tested it several times. The shutter screen button must be on the right
for pictures or movies so they can come a normal landscape shot. All other
positions the results will be according to the orientation you used. There
is no a "auto correction" feature. Unless you view on the phone or use
quicktime to view the movies.
Must be some gyroscope data built in to the pictures/movies cameras but they
should have an option to "fix" the orientation after or have an "autofix"
option based on the orientation you shot.
I think it is an iOS fault and from now on I must remember to always keep
the home button to the right when filming or taking pictures.

Rod, I just took a photo with Camera+ and opened with Windows 7. It was not
upside down. I have a 4s with iOS 5.0.1.

Rod, I just turned my iPhone upside down and hit the volume button with my
left thumb. The photo still came out right side up. Again, this is a 4s
with iOS 5.0.1. I'm not saying this will fix your problem but only that I
don't have the problem.

They must have fixed on iOS 5...
If you want to, just for fun of it, take 4 pictures, starting with home
button on the right and go clockwise and mail them to me...
I have some here I can send you if you want...
Remember that on the iphone they always come up right, regardless the
orientation you use.

Rod, I used Windows Explorer to copy the photos from my iPhone to the Win7
Desktop. I then attached them to the message. There were no other programs
used.

This is a software bug that needs fixing. You should be able to take the pic from any of the 4 orientations and get a right side up picture. If I take the same picture from all 4, I get 4 different pics, and it matters not if I use the volume button or the screen button. If I take a "portrait" shot it comes out upside down when viewed on the PC's picture viewer. I hope this gets fixed.

Have a friend sometimes send photos from my walk using iPhone and
iPhone's mail. Friend gets the photo sideways and if they reply the
photo is sideways coming back to me.
If I email the same photo from phone to another email address of mine,
the photo is correct orientation.
Don't recall a similar problem when email photos from the laptop.
Strange.

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: Apple saw record sales
this holiday season, 12 times the amount of activations on Christmas
Day via 9to5Mac by Jake Smith on 12/27/11
Apple saw record-setting sales this holiday season, according to
Localytics. So well, that 12.5 times more iOS devices were activated
over Christmas than past weekends. For comparison sake: there were 21
times more iPods compared to 14 times more iPhones. The iPods were most
likely gifted to younger children who do not yet have a cell phone. At
any rate⦠there were many people enjoying iOS devices on Christmas Day.
Apple is said to have another record setting quarter after a very
successful fiscal Q4 for the company. The last earnings report said
Apple claimed $28.27 billion in revenue and saw record-setting Mac and
iPhone sales. The holiday quarter is expected to be even better.
Apple is set to have its best year ever in its App Store with
approximately 10 billion downloads in 2011, along with a record-setting
holiday season. That estimate doubles collective downloads from the
three years prior, according to research firm Flurry. The report noted
the Android Market hit 10 billion cumulative downloads in December, up
from 3 billion total downloads in May 2011.
Flurry also backs up Localytics claim and said Christmas Day 2011s
activations crushed Christmas Day 2010s by almost 2.5 times. This year,
6.8 million iOS devices were activated, while last year saw 2.8 million
device activationsâ"a 140 percent growth. We are looking forward to
hearing what Apple has to say in late January.
In comparison to Androidâ¦
Apple saw similar sales. Interestingly, the sales for both platforms
differentiate between region⦠as seen in the graph below:
