OpenBackup: One of the Most Promising Jailbreak Backup Solutions on Cydia

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 06:10 PM PST

Today I tried out OpenBackup — a new package backup solution for your jailbreak apps and tweaks.

Admittedly, I was a bit skeptical. I’ve had my fair share of experiences with backup tools for jailbreak apps tweaks in the past, and they either a). don’t work, or b). overly complicated.

Outside of PKGBackup, I can’t really recommend any backup solutions, although I have yet to try iBye (I have heard good things about that).

But even an excellent app like PKGBackup can be borderline confusing when it comes to safely backing up and restoring your Cydia tweaks. With the advent of iCloud, I held out hope that a backup tool could harness its power for backups and restores, and that’s just what happened.

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing OpenBackup, the first tool of its kind that utilizes iCloud for seamless backups and restores…(...)

iMAME ROM Emulator Slips into the App Store

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 04:47 PM PST

It would seem that the folks on Apple’s crack team of app approvers have been slipping a bit lately. Just the other day the company approved iTether, an unlimited tethering application for the iPhone. And now this.

Word has been spreading like wildfire this afternoon that Apple has admitted iMAME into the App Store. So what’s the big deal? Well we’re pretty sure the ROM-playing emulator doesn’t quite meet Apple’s strict app guidelines…(...)

Analyst’s Crystal Ball Says Redesigned iPhone and All New iPad Lineup to Come in 2012

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 02:40 PM PST

Apple is not going to rest on its laurels next year and will drive sales by introducing new, redesigned iPhone 5 alongside a whole new lineup of iPads, according to Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster.

While simultaneously telling everybody something they already knew as well as attempting to look into his crystal ball, Munster claimed today that because Apple did not redesign any of its products in 2011 — the iPhone 4S is an iteration of the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2 offers only cosmetic changes and faster internals — the company absolutely must make complete redesigns next year.

Munster also believes that Apple may decide to do away with its current offering of just one iPad in favor of a new lineup which could include new high and low-end devices to help give customers more choice…(...)

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 01:40 PM PST

We’ve seen a lot of iPhone news reader apps surface in the last month. First there was Flipboard, the popular iPad-turned-iPhone app. And then Zite, another prominent iPad news application, surfaced.

But my favorite news reader for both the iPhone and the iPad still has to be Pulse. Its image-driven interface is both attractive and user-friendly. And the app just got even better with the latest update…(...)
