Hi Tauqir, I am a professional photographer and I swear by Adobe Lightroom. I cannot live without it now and it is what I use to archive and orgainze all my thousands of images.
The controls on LR are soon good that On many jobs I never open Photoshop before I send them to the client. Fee free to touch bases with me if you want more information.

Surely all that's relevant is the file system you are copying *to* (in this
case, Macintosh HD)? Why would it matter what format the source for the
copy is?
All the same, I'll repeat the test with a portable hard-drive and with the
SD card formatted as HFS+.

I doubt that any camera can write to a HFS+ formatted card. AFAIK FAT is
universal for those.

Jim, if I remember correctly, the OP did not lose the files on the SD
card, but issued the Undo command after the card had been removed and
returned to some other person. When he did the Undo, he couldn't
recover the files from the card because he didn't have it. The
question was where the files he had copied to his computer went when
he issued the command. Again, as I recall, he got the card again and
was able to recopy the files he couldn't find on his computer after
the 'Undo.' I think I have that right.
In other words, the issue is how the MacOS 'Undo' command works, not
how the card is formatted. I have confirmed, using a test Word file
and an external drive, that the result is the same with the HFS
external drive.

iTunes Media Library

Hi
I have an iTunes Music Library that is almost 500GB on my iTB iMac. I would like to hear the pros and cons in relation to moving the library to an external hard drive? Your comments would be appreciated.

My iTunes Music Library is on a NAS (Ethernet) 2 disk mirrored drive on my network. Now has 25,000 plus songs.
My Mac and other computers can "see" it. My Sonos Digital Music system plays the music. Sonos system controlled Sonos remotes and Sonos apps on Macs and on iPhones.
If you do this, research first to find a FAST RAID unit with a speedy rated Ethernet and fast drive response times otherwise as number of songs goes up wait time doing batch Get Info editing in iTunes Get Info goes way up.
In addition, I got a hot swappable RAID for convenience. I configured it as "mirrored" as a safer way to keep duplicate songs due to hours and days and weeks of time it takes to RIP a large collection of CDs into iTunes.

Just out of curiosity, how long would it take to listen to all of a 500 GB music library, once?

How badly do you need the space? The media library is half the
capacity of your drive, but how much free space is left? If you think
you need more space then move it, but if you still have, let's say,
250GB free left then I'd leave it alone, since moving it is an added
complication and you would then have to remember to do regular
backups of both drives.

Less time than to listen to the equivalent amount of music on individual CDs.

Backup - you should have a copy of your library on an external drive
regardless.

It's so great to hear there are others that have avoided Facebook. I was beginning to feel like an old fuddy-duddy. I tried to get involved with it and ended up pulling my hair (what little of it I yet have) figuring it out. Didn't gain any new friends but I got enough anyway. It's twitter that I can't stand. Frankly, I do not see the point of
these social networking sites, if I want to contact someone I email
them!
I am still boiling over that the BBC Breakfast Programme had an item
this morning with two "TV critics" with a mental age of three who were
whittering on about some character in Eastenders dying after 25 years
and one of them said "All the Twitter community are twittering madly
about it, including [and she mentioned the names of two celebs I had
never heard of and don't want to]. What empty lives people lead! And
how the BBC Breakfast Programme has dumbed down! That isn't news, are
they trying to take the place of the News of the World?

The date structure for folders work for me, it might not work for all, but I use LR for all photo related material. Here is a good review I found:

> Here is an excerpt from the website.
> "In neither case does Aperture give you what can be considered a real file browser. Both in Managed and Referenced mode you use a virtual browser that internally links to your images without giving you direct access to those images the way Lightroom does. Aperture even allows your Projects to be called something entirely different than the folders that physically contains the images, which can potentially be the source of confusion if you run a Referenced Library. Virtual Projects do have one major advantage: They can be organized in any order you choose. In Lightroom, folders appear in the file browser sorted by name. In Aperture you sort your Projects however you want, and you can nest them into folders and sub-folders without ever altering where the images are physically located on your hard-drive. Aperture also has its version of a Lightroom Collection, called an Album, as well as scriptable Smart Albums and virtual folders that these can be organized into."
>
> On the price, I picked up LR at an academic price of 99.00 and aperture was near 200. Both can do the job, but I'd still suggest trying out both. I also saw that adobe marked it down a month ago for the same price to everyone, but think it is now back to 200 now. Tauqir, look to see if you can purchase in the academic community for a reduced price.

Stop this discussion right now.
Discussing how the group should work is off-topic and it exclusive to
the moderating team.
But for your information, we have recently turned off the moderation for
new members because it created a large backlog of people who had posted
productive information to the group, while not having their status changed.
Therefore, we had a two-tier membership: people who had posting rights
because they subscribed before we implemented moderation, and people who
had limited rights because they signed up after.
I had warned against this and it is why, last Autumn, I turned off
moderation for new members. An occasional spam message won't make me

iPad Wifi

Hello,
I have a Wifi only iPad 1. Most of the time I have no issue at all connecting to a Wifi. The exception being a couple coffee shops at one particular shopping center. Recently it happened at another location of one of those coffee shops. In all cases, if I go into settings, I see that the iPad recognizes the appropriate Wifi but I get a "cannot connect to server" message.
Is there some setting I need to change on the iPad or is the issue with the coffee shops?

Bob,
You usually need to go to Safari (or other browser) to login.
The connection you see in settings is only to the router, not the internet.

I know that in some locations, Pete's Coffee has "open" networks (no WPA or equiv PW required, but there is still a logon requirement (they print out a 4-character code from the cash register). Your iPad will recognize that it's "conneccted" to a WiFi network but not able to use it.
I've seen several other places where "guest" open networks require similar PW entry (in one instance, it's just "yes"), or at least an acknowledgement of terms of use.
When I'm in such places, if there's "push" traffic to my iPhone, it heats up like the Jon-ee white gas hand warmer I used to take skiing as a kid, and my battery life can diminish to an hour or two while I'm not doing anything with the phone myself. Properly registering the phone with the network (in Safari, not in the iOS "Prefs" app) allows the phone to cool off and the battery life to return to a normal duration. I have no idea what would happen to a device with NO cellular radio under such circumstances.

I suspect that this device might be rather new to you. I've had an
iPad touch now for several years and have found the same thing. Many
sites want you to log in, even if they are free to use, so you can
click on some "I agree" box. In other words, your first place to go,
after choosing the network, is to go to Safari and see if it
automatically sends you to such a site where you have to agree.

I just got a new macbook pro, which has Lion. I am having the biggest problem with the address book, and really prefer the functionality of the Snow Leopard address book.
Is there a way for me to configure this to look like the old address book? It just took me about 5 minutes to add a contact to a group I had, which is crazy. (that was after taking forever to add the group to begin with. lol)

Pat,
You could go here http://www.cultofmac.com/106760/ but looks complicated.how-to-give- address-book- a-clean-and- simple-look- in-lion/
Google might find alternative approaches.

I'm going to use iweb instead of CS3 for a temp website. I've got it on-line but an having trouble adding a paypal button. I've done this many times with windows and iweb - but today the code shows instead of the button and nothing I do seems to change it, including copying the html from am old iweb site.

Scanning apps in cooking magazines

How do you scan the apps in cooking magazines using your iPad or iPhone? I have seen it done on T.V. and you hold the iPad over the square code and it gives you new information. Do you have to get something from the app store to turn this feature on or is there a website you go to? Google was of no help or I asked it wrong. Surely someone knows how to scan these apps.
