Thanks! I do not want to get him in a two-year plan. He isn't much of a phone user but he does want a particular weather app that requires 4.0. How do I update to 4.2.1? If I plug into iTunes won't it try to update to newest? How can I tell it which one I want?

It will try to update to newest, and it will recognize that "newest" for this iPhone (a 3G) is 4.2.1

I'm running iOS 5.01 on my iPhone 3G and it was a straightforward
download from iTunes. My iPhone was bricked when I updated it to iOS
4-something, but Apple fixed it.

One nice thing about the audiobook system is that if the book is still in the Overdrive Console OverDrive will delete it at the appropriate time HOWEVER it will not delete it from your iPhone. It will stay there until you decide to delete it. I have a reference book that I like to refer to from time to time and I'll bet it's been in my iPhone for 6 months. Also near the final dowload screen from the library (at least mine does it this way) just to the right of where it says it expires in 14 days is a drop down arrow where you can choose the additional choices of either 7 or 21 days. I'm not sure why anyone would pick 7 days however.

Please post (here or email me directly) if you have any problems. Since Apple went to iOS5 OverDrive has been very erratic for me.

Thanks... Bob

OverDrive will delete the book from it's console, it will not delete the book from your iPhone. It is there until you choose to delete it.

OverDrive with iOS5 - Are you having problems with it?

Posted by: "Bob Newman" bobnewman@cox.net   agunat

I have a 4S with iOS5 operating system and OverDrive is acting very erratically. OverDrive customer support says they are having lot of problems with iOS5 and don't know when or if they will be resolved. I used OveDrive for quite sometime before OS5 came out and never had any problems. Audiobooks are not going to the phone as books but rather as an audio playlist and then only a couple of parts of the books are there, the rest have to be manually moved by me within iTunes. Also on playback the different parts of the book are not flowing from one to another automatically. I will have to manually start the next part.

This is extremely frustrating. I even bought an mp3 player so I didn't have to use my iPhone to listen to books. I really want to continue to use my iPhone though. If anyone can help that would be GREAT!

Thanks in advance, Bob

On my old android phone I was able to select a microphone button on my virtual keyboard and say what I wanted to text. Can I do that with my iPhone 4? If so how? And what about emails?

I live three hours from a WalMart, even farther from an Apple Store. Amazon is the only way to go for me. Diane
