Apps for reading text files

Risking getting yelled at for asking basic questions. ;)

I have an iPod Touch on loan and must return it soon so need to finish
my evaluation quickly.

I am looking for some free apps mostly to read txt or doc files such as
recipes. If such an app is already loaded on the device, which one is
it? When I had done a sync, what apps were previously loaded went away
so am starting from scratch. Thanks much.

Did anybody yell? All I noticed was somebody giving you some very sound advice on how to get the answer you want as quickly and efficiently as possible, without bothering or relying on anybody else, although they did so in the rather irritated way that people do when they've done it a thousand times before and still people keep popping up demanding to be spoon fed every last morsel without bothering even to try to help themselves first.

The Apple pages are some of the best, most comprehensive, and easily understood help pages on the web, and give the definitive answers for most problems. Use them. They should be first port of call for anybody new to iPods, not the last. Often the only difference between member (of any Mac forum) who's behaving like some needy fledgeling flapping its helpless little wings and demanding (with snide asides or not) to have info stuffed down its gullet, and the one taking pity on them, is the fact that one of them has bothered to read the relevant Apple support page before opening its beak.

That said, I'm not at all sure what you are asking here. How do we know what apps were previously loaded on your iPod? If you're asking about built in apps, iPod manuals are available on Apple's help pages. If you want the names of some free apps that read files to you, then you'll find them in the app store. If you are asking for personal recommendations, that's a different matter. I'm sure one will be along in a minute.

Well, rather than subject everyone on this group to the inexcusable
audacity of this poor old deafblind man who has never thought this
technology could even be possibly of value to him, I shall leave the
group. I apologize for not understanding how difficult is it is to be
sighted and hearing in this world, its got to be truly tough.

Yes it is probably a real chore to deal with thousands like me and
there is no justification for it. I will just have to muddle around on
my own so I do not trouble anyone with nonsensical questions that are so
readily available elsewhere as cited here already. Shame on me.

But thanks goes to BJ who has been of great help.

I know that Goodreader will read txt pdf & doc files but it's not free.
I don't know if there's a free app that reads .doc files.

There are some pdf readers that will read txt files & are either free
or have lite (free) versions.

I found something called TXT Reader which is free and reads plain text
files.

If you do a search in the App Store, look for "pdf reader" or even just
"reader" and see what might work for you.

I don't know how any of these will work for vision impaired accomodation.

BJ,
Thanks. Did not find TXT Reader but there is a Text Reader which is a
paid app. I browsed around and downloaded 3 apps which I will try out in
the next few days. One of them should yield some joy.

There is a site (AppleVis) that offers reviews of apps and their
accessibility. I will be using VoiceOver which so far seems to be pretty
slick.

Thank you so much....it worked!!! Now as I flip through the podcasts for 5 mins looking for what I want.....if I decide I would rather go back to music on the shuffle....how do I erase all of the podcasts? (I really will try listening to the podcasts for a week on my hour trip to work to see if I like it.....before I erase them......) Thank you, Pam J.
