According to an actual user, audio-captcha isn't always all that easy to
use. I don't know how they're constructed, but maybe some sites do it better
than others; or perhaps the construction method itself is faulty for some
uses. I don't know.
I'll have to try it sometime. Maybe sometime when the visible-version is
hard to read -- I guess they're trying to trick the robot-readers too but
some of the letters/numbers are fuzzy or ambiguous.

Captchas have an audio version too, for which you can select.

I am guessing that a site or entity buys a certain captcha program that
will create the bloody things on the fly. There are probably hundreds of
them for I see different styles but each site does not change the
styles. Some are pretty easy but some are dastardly difficult, the ones
that use color shading in both background and foreground. Remember the
tests for color blindness? LOL
The sole purpose of these things are to drive the blind mad. The
secondary purpose is to thwart the robots. ;)
I dont bother with the audio versions for I am certain that will not
work for me.

I have tried both.
I agree audio captcha is tougher, as far as I am concerned.
This may not be necessarily true for all, especially sight challenged amongst us;

Believe me---they are dreadful enough for even someone with reasonably good sight. Ok, so I wear glasses (astigmatism), but many of those captchas are completely obscure to me. The audio versions are if anything even worse....

Robert,
I think you mentioned that you were joining a Yahoo group for blind and
vision-impaired iPad and iPhone users. Could you please tell me the exact
name of this group so I could tell a vision-impaired friend about it. He
has an iPhone and is thinking about getting an iPad.
Thanks,
Carlee

Tyler:
Apple is very tight lipped. Other than leaving iPhone prototypes in bars,
they don't say anything about products/software development until the
appointed time.
A bunch of Apple product owners in a discussion forum know just as much as
you do.
