Aw, don't run away mad. He probably missed the fact that you're
visually impaired; I had missed the fact that you're hearing impaired.
OTOH if you do run across someone who is just being a horse's patoot
then please console yourself with the knowledge that he is probably his
own worst enemy.

Personally I admire the moxie of anyone who can make heads or tails of
modern technology such as computers and Ipods; I have a heck of a time
and as long as my trifocals don't break I can see fairly well. I can
even hear sometimes too, if there's not too much noise...

Regards,
James

try searching the store for:

plain text reader

TXT reader (that's its name) comes up first on the list when I do it.

it's" designed for reading plain text documents" and you import to the
device using iTunes.

Whatever apps you purchase now (either free or paid) you will be able to use
on your own device later.

I have no experience with voice-over other than invoking it by mistake
occasionally!

BJ,
Thanks. Did not find TXT Reader but there is a Text Reader which is a
paid app. I browsed around and downloaded 3 apps which I will try out in
the next few days. One of them should yield some joy.

There is a site (AppleVis) that offers reviews of apps and their
accessibility. I will be using VoiceOver which so far seems to be pretty
slick.

replace 3gs battery

I am seeing that my 3Gs phone battery is getting weak. I have taken it to
Apple and they told me that nothing was wrong about 1 month ago... and in
March the phone will be out of warrenttee, So, I could take it back again,
and maybe get it replaced, however, that would mean that I would have about
5 hours of syncing to set it back up with nearly 300 apps on it. So, my
question is, If I went to ebay and bought a new battery there for it, whould
I have any issues with replaceing the battery myself or is it pretty
straight forward... I have been told by one shop that there are a lot of
wires that I would have to make sure that did not pop out... but today's
electronics seldom have many wires to speak of so I thought his warning to
be an attempt to get me to take it to him and pay him for his service. Is
this a hard job, has anyone done it? I guess what I am asking is how hard
of a job is this? I dable in electronics a bit, but am not a pro... what
say ye? Thank you,

If your phone is still under warranty, I would highly recommend using that route to get your unit repaired/replaced. While you could probably do the work yourself, IF something bad happens, it's on your dime. For me, having fresh new hardware (especially when you're about to leave Apple's 'safety net') would offset the work of getting set-up again. Just make sure you sync/backup your phone before heading of to the Apple Store.

Just my opinion...

**5 HOURS!**

Even my 64GB iPad didn't take 5 hours, or even 2, to re-sync (restore from
backup) after I had the iOS updated at the Apple Store. I'm not using near
the max but it's still got a lot of stuff of all different types on it.
I just started it going & went and had lunch or something.

Find a youtube video of the job and watch it. If the case is easy to open
you should be ok.
I ended up damaging and original iPhone and breaking my case tool but they
are notoriously difficult to open.
The many wires are for various things like the wifi antenna. In fact I
pinched the wifi antenna in my original iphone
and now the wifi doesn't work unless i'm next to the router. Now that's the
original iPhone. I'm sure the newer ones
are easier but watch a video then decide. Also photograph the various steps
so you can get it back together.

*All the best,

thanks Ryan... This has been a great phone, but it is also my 6th
replacement phone, so I was trying not to get a lemon while
getting a new battery... I guess I will need to think about that
one... if they get say 6 months on the new phone, I would not
hesitate, but if they give me a bad one and I only have until the
13th of March... then I could be really in a pickle.

Re: Can I have a separate shuffle for just podcasts?

You can make different syncing selections every time you sync
if you want to.

If you un-check syncing podcasts, they'll be erased when you sync, or if
you've erased them directly on the device they won't be re-synced.

You can sync fewer podcasts if you want & also have some music.
It's not an all-or-nothing affair (unless you want it that way.)

That's why I like using playlists -- makes it easy to keep track of things.
On my iTouch I can select a playlist to play either in order or on
shuffle -- it shuffles *within* that playlist until it's played all the
items (or I stop it.)

I don't really know how the shuffle works, though -- but I "assume" (we all
know what that means :-)) that you can have a mixture of content -- though
maybe you wouldn't be able to control "what comes next" after you press
play.

Thank you so much....it worked!!! Now as I flip through the podcasts for 5
mins looking for what I want.....if I decide I would rather go back to music
on the shuffle....how do I erase all of the podcasts? (I really will try
listening to the podcasts for a week on my hour trip to work to see if I
like it.....before I erase them......) Thank you, Pam J.
