I can now say after about 4 months of getting the 5% text message, this month it looks like I'm getting slow speed on podcast downloads. This month the text message came at
5 gig 10 days before end of billing cycle. The speed appears to be about like edge or 2g.

That is too bad.

I am not convinced that paying extra would alleviate that.

Thanks

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: Reinventing Textbooks:
Apple unveils iBooks 2, a brand new textbook experience for iPad via
9to5Mac by Jordan Kahn on 1/19/12

Apple executives took the stage at its education event at the
Guggenheim museum in New York City this morning, where the company
unveiled two education initiatives. #1: Reinventing Textbooks with
iBooks 2 and #2: iBooks Author, an e-book authoring tool for Mac.

As expected, VP of Productivity Software and iWork Roger Rosner took
the stage immediately following the announcement to demo iBooks 2.
Rosner launched a biology textbook starting with a dramatic intro video
and continued to show off the features of the interactive textbook
including interactive 3D models, improved index with page number
search, index links back into the book, and the ability to pinch to get
to table of contents. Rosner also showed of how the textbooks have
different layouts depending on whether you are in landscape or portrait
mode.

To accompany the demo, Schiller announced that a new Textbook category
for the iBookstore that you can access here. iBooks 2.0 is available
for free on the App Store now. Apple has also updated their site with
an iBooks 2 tour. iBooks 2 is compatible with both iPhone and iPad, but
textbooks appear to only be available to iPad users currently.

Other features demoed by Rosner include interactive Q&A content for
students and teachers at the end of chapters, as well as highlighting
and note taking tools. Rosner also explains they take notes and
highlights a step further by instantly turning them into study cards.

"Education is deep in Apple's DNA and iPad may be our most exciting
education product yet. With 1.5 million iPads already in use in
education institutions, including over 1,000 one-to-one deployments,
iPad is rapidly being adopted by schools across the US and around the
world," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of
Worldwide Marketing. "Now with iBooks 2 for iPad, students have a more
dynamic, engaging and truly interactive way to read and learn, using
the device they already love."

So how do developers and publishers create these content rich

Author. Get the full story here. We also learned that high school
textbooks will be starting at $14.99 or less with a full list of
partners and books available today here. Full press release from Apple

My new 4S will change to speaker or mute or hold if the phone is close to my face. Yes, it is in a case with a lip.

Serial Number UPDATE

Posted by: "sharonx9" sharonx9@gmail.com   sharonx1972

Thu Jan 19, 2012 12:21 pm (PST)

UPDATE: I went to school at 8:40 this morning and still no ipod.
Supposedly the kid had given it to a high schooler to charge. The officer
was going to go to the high school and get it. I got a call a few hours
later telling me that they had it so I went back to the school.
The cop had gotten the ipod from the older kid and the serial number
matched. The principal had told the thief kid that I wasn't going to press
charges, I just wanted it back. Well that might have been ok but the case
was missing and the screen protector was gone. The glass is scratched up
and the ipod was locked with a code.

I told her (the principal) that I was still going to press charges because
of it being damaged and parts missing. So I left and went to the county
attorney's office and pressed theft charges on him. He was already in
their system, no surprise there and now he's being charged with theft by
unlawful taking. The attorneys office said he will more than likely get 6
months probation with meetings at their office every 1-2 weeks. He will be
sent to counseling and have some kind of community service.

He has been warned by the principal and the school officer not to touch my
son and not to say anything to him. He is already in trouble there for
aggressive bullying by snatching the ipod from my son's hands and running
away. They have this on video.

The attorney is going to seek payment for the damages. We may not get that
but I'm hoping that the probation and community service will teach this 14
year old kid that you can't just take something that isn't yours. and I
hope this opens his parents eyes that something needs to be done about
their child.

I hooked the ipod up to itunes and restored it with my son's stuff so now
it's good to go. I thank God that we got it back in decent working order.

Photo quantities iPhone 4s will hold

Posted by: "missladybee" beadedimages@earthlink.net   missladybee

I will be going on a 2 week vacation later this year and plan to take a lot of photos. I have 2 questions concerning photo storage on my iPhone 4s.

First, I have about 12.7G available space on my 16G iPhone 4s. Can anyone give me an estimate of how many photos my iPhone can store at one time?

Second, is there a way to move the photos from my iPhone 4s onto my iPad, should I run out of available space on the iPhone? I don't want to email them to myself. That would be time consuming and would fill up my mail account while I was away.

Thanks,
Barbara

I have over 3000 pics on mine (4) and I don't think it's even ¼ filled up... so I don't think you'll over load it. Video can take a lot more memory though.

Hi Barbara - Photosync is an app that will wirelessly sync photos on your
iphone to your computer OR to your ipad or both. It is slick. If you have
more space on your ipad, this app would prevent anxiety by easily
transferring the pics from the phone to the ipad.

12.7 GB should be more than enough. If the average photo is 2MB, you have a room for 6,300+.

I think it's best you enable Photo Stream.

said 'Dial 911'. phone responded 'No Match'. after trying a couple of
times i gave up, pulled the phone from my holster and dialed the number
manually. i've used voice dialing before either by saying 'Call John Doe'
or 'Dial 345-6789'. the phone doesn't seem to recognize 911 as a valid

Create a contact EMERGENCY with the number 911. Then you will be able to tell voice control : call EMERGENCY.

Does the same apply to the iPhone 4s for setting up 9-1-1 calls?  I looked in Settings under every heading, didn't find anything.

One would create the contact 'Emergency" and the number 911 IN the 'contacts' section. Not in 'settings'.

Is this an iPhone problem or a Verizon problem? I will turn the phone off and then back on and that sometimes allows me to connect but that doesn't work every time. Don't think so because I use about a quarter of my plan data allowance.
