Lost Apps

Keeping in mind this Touch is only on loan to me, while I decide if its
right for me, I was trying to get a couple apps onto it last night. I
finally did but all the other apps went poof! iTunes is to blame. ;) Its
not a loss but am curious if I can get those apps back.
iTunes has a backup function, does it back everything like this up?
Once I get my own device, of course I will backup. LOL

Were the new apps bought on the same itunes account that the previous apps had been purchased? If you try to download purchases from another account Itunes warns you that the touch is synced to another database and will remove existing programs/music on the device. I tunes keeps track of the apps that have been purchased on each account and they can be downloaded again for free typically.

Yes I was warned. LOL Does this apply even to free apps? The 2 that I
did download myself are fine. I made a list of some apps I wanted to
look at in more depth so its not a total loss.
I take it once I have my own Touch, I will not have any trouble
downloading the same apps. Oh and when it is time to send this one back,
how do I clean it up? I put my music on there and do not wish to leave
the files behind. This is also why I have not added any personal data.
Thanks. I think I will be ok when I get my own device. ;)

Once you have your own touch you can sync it to your last back-up on the computer and it will put it in the same state more or less as this one was at the point of the back-up.
With this one in the main window for the ipod in Itunes one of the choices is to restore the ipod, this will restore it close to new. it doesn't remember any passwords, I have had some of the old accounts remain, asking for passwords to use the account.

Why don't you try reading the user guide instead of flooding this list with
posts? Apple also has very useful support forums. Everything you've asked
can be easily answered by reading the materials Apple provides.

Just for future reference, any app that you purchase (free or paid) can be
downloaded for free.
Also, when in the itunes store, on the right there is a link to all
purchased content that you can look throught and redownload.

Can I have a separate shuffle for just podcasts?

I thought I would get a shuffle just for podcasts....but can not figure out how to do it. Do I have to uncheck all of my music, to be able to do it? Thank you, my kids have all left home and now I am on my own with all of my "toys"!! Pam J.

Yes. Just use the device's summary page in iTunes to specify want media/data you want synced to it. I have an 'old school' hard-drive equipped iPod that has my entire library synced to it, it's only used for extended car trips. All of my other iOS devices only have a subset of my iTunes library on them.

My advice would to use two different user profiles on your computer. One
for movies music or whatnot. The other Profile user used for adding
podcasts to your shuffle.
This will make it less stressful than having to uncheck all the files you
dont want on the shuffle each time that it is synced. And vice versa when
you want to sync your music and other files.
