I'm having a tough time establishing an ID with iTunes.

In 2007 I think that I established a presence with Apple after my iMac purchase. In 2010 I bought my ProBook through Apple Canada.

I recorded the particulars of my Apple Canada relationship in Keychain Access. The data re my first connection with Apple was not recorded as I was then unfamiliar with Keychain.

I just tried to set up an iTunes account, however I can not get my Apple identity to link with my chosen password, which was always entered correctly.

Somehow I am somebody else to Apple. I always get an error message when I enter a PW.

Shall I just scrub all this and just use an alias, which might be problematic if I use PayPal, which is connected to my real name?

Need some help here. I've been bouncing around for the better part of an hour.

Thanx. Oneal

SO many of us have been through this. Just a few weeks ago I had five Apple IDs. 1-1/2 hours on the phone with AppleCare and i was supposedly down to two IDs, though I still had to re-buy a couple of Apps bought under earlier IDs.

But yesterday I discovered my iPhone was demanding a third ID, and I gave it, and it updated. It's a mystery. It's a huge mess. Apple has screwed up this feature beyond repair, in my opinion.

Right now, I'm back to three IDs, and I'm sure that when I sign up for iCloud I will be coerced into creating a fourth, and then there we go again.

Ones you think are settled then unexpectedly require a different password. Etc.

Horrible.

BAD. BAD.

Create a new account in iTunes. It will relieve your frustration and anxiety - and it will work.

Won't this, though, keep one from access to any
stuff purchased under the old account?

But then how do you do updates to apps you downloaded under a different ID?

In Nov, 2009 I was robbed of two new iMacs. Fortunately I don't use these to do any banking or use them for my accounts or keep financial info on them. I had no longer a pay pal account. I did have a clone back up which was not stolen. Insurance paid fully for two new iMacs. The robbers were in hurry and simply yanked the machines from the desk leaving all the cords. Several days later I was in local Mac store getting my new machines and related what happened. Turns out the day after mine were stolen a young couple came in looking for a power cord for an iMac - they had also visited the apple store and Best Buy. This store had a video of them but I couldn't get the police interested enough to investigate. They had also taken a brand new Sony 40 " TV. Their method was to hit houses that had a for sale sign in front. They would come to door asking to see the house. I refused - week later another fellow came for same reason - driving same car as before. The third time they came I wasn't home as wife was in the hospital. Neighbor saw them - Young people.

For the downloads, make sure that you set it up in your browser. What
are you using?

Same thing for iTunes. You can can go to Preferences and click on
Advanced. The first item is "iTunes Media folder location".

That won't clean logs and other files.

I recommend AppCleaner or a utility that features uninstalling apps.

DVI doesn't do sound to the best of my knowledge.

So although you are connecting via HDMI (which will carry sound) there is no sound signal from the DVI connection for it to send to the TV.

Absolutely right. DVI = digital video interface.

I run a DVI to HDMI cable from the mini-displayport on my iMac. There
is no sound signal transferred, nor is it designed to.

As far as I am aware, none of the ports on your 2008 MBP (I have the
same) support sending video and audio, so you are going to have to merge
these somewhere along the line. Whether you just have more than one
cable going to your TV, or you use something like

<http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=dvi+%2B+sound+to+hdmi&hl=en&rls=ig&prmd=imvnsfd&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1298&bih=832&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=6250620916760595571&sa=X&ei=AHoeT6OxA9S5hAes8pmJDg&ved=0CHoQ8wIwAA>

(hope that works, if not just google for "dvi + sound to hdmi")

that merges the dvi video and rca audio, and outputs it all along a
standard hdmi link, is up to you.

Just for the record, my 2011 mac mini, with hdmi output, works perfectly
with sound and video to my HD TV ;)

Parental Controls

I defraged my Mac Mini yesterday and today whenever I try to log on it says i'm locked out due to Parental Control settings. I have gone in Systems and checked Parental Controls it shows no accounts using Parental Controls. I tried using Chrome and I get the Parental Control message for MSN.com but not for Yahoo. I am logged in using Chrome now. What can I do to get the Parental Controls off my computer? Is there a way to go back to another date when computer was working right like MSN has? Thanks.

Never mind. It's fixed. While i was here at Yahoo I got two updates so I clicked up and one had to restart the computer to work. When computer restarted I had a couple of hard drive errors caused by Drive Genius 3 that I used yesterday to defrag. After it repaired the hard drive it defraged again. So hopefully, I'm up and running again. I don't think I'll use Drive Genius 3 again.

Personally I don't recommend anything other than Disk Warrior to
repair a hard drive (that is, other than Apple's own Disk Utility),
and iDefrag to defragment a hard drive. Though in most
circumstances, neither product is a must-have.

Hi everyone,

When someone made an off-topic mention of Facebook not so long ago, a
small light bulb popped up over my head.

Mac Support Central has a Web site where some content is published, such
as frequent or very relevant Mac help questions. I even ventured in
publishing a first product review.

In order to make that content accessible for those who would want to
follow it through Facebook, here is a page you can "like":

I used GoDaddy for many years, and they seemed to be fine. But their
support sucked. They also nearly gave away my domain name to someone
else (which almost caused me to expectorate an internal organ in
anger), and have some onerous policies that I really didn't like.

So now I use this service that I arrived at by doing a bunch of
research. They are inexpensive, offer a ton of bells and whistles,
and have truly amazing 24/7 support via e-mail that is unmatched:

ICDSoft
http://icdsoft.com/
http://www2.icdsoft.com/hosting.php

For the amazing price of $72/year I get a huge amount of Web space,
unlimited e-mail addresses and e-mail hosting, the facility to
quickly and easily set up e-mail discussion lists, etc. Renewal of
my domain name only costs $5.

Funny you should mention "give 'em the razor and sell 'em the blades", I used that today in conversation. BTW, Gillette now uses the model "sell 'em the razor AND the blade". I learned of that business model 40 years ago.

How does giving away Address Book or iCal, cause you to buy a complimentary good?

I think the business model you really mean is "if the "product" or service is free, then you the "customer" is the product."

And none of the business models fits or describes Address Book or iCal.

Like I said before, Address Book and iCal are fine for 80 per cent of the users. If you want more you need to find something else.

If you want a relational data base, then look at Filemaker, Bento, or even Evernote, if you can not find a CRM, project management or sales management software that meets your needs.

By the way, you never told me what you paid for Address Book and iCal.
