There is no room for a persistent bookmark bar in the Safari window on the iPhone.
Like Jim said, "The "Bookmarks Bar" is only visible on the iPhone when you go to "Bookmarks"", so it is there, just not in the form you want it.

A way around "Message only partially downloaded" ?

In spare moments, I've decided to wade through months of unread Apple iPhone Group messages. There are only certain topics of interest, so it's mostly open, scan, swipe, skim, delete. But the messages are truncated unless I go to the end and touch the "Press here to download remaining [message portion]." Is there a way to increase the size of message capacity?

I don't understand if you want to see more of a preview or more emails.
Have you checked the settings for Mail, Contacts, Calendars?
Scroll down to Show and Preview. One of those should be what you want.

One can have maximum 200 messages and 4 line preview on iPhone 4 with original OS. There is no method of increasing memory of initial message download. One has to press " download the rest". It is a bug which bothers those who download when in wifi hotspot zone and read later but do not wish to use cellular data.

Are there shortcuts to navigate to the TOP or BOTTOM of a message, rather than swiping through screens-worth of message history?

You can jump to the top of a message (and most every screen) by clicking the top info bar (which displays the time).
I'm not aware of a shortcut to jump to the bottom.

Help for "power reading" emails, articles, blogs

Any apps or solutions for the following? I've found it difficult to know HOW to search for what I describe.
Some email or articles will intuitively resize columnar margins in relation to whatever size I make the text. Most, however, do not. So I have to swipe left and right to read to the text margins.
Here's an example, and maybe it's out there. Think of how you can set cursor acceleration on a mouse. One setting will shoot the cursor 1/3 across the screen with just a nudge. So I imagine a cranking up "swipe acceleration" so that the entire line of text can be moved with, say, a swipe about as wide as a nickel. The only e-book I've ever downloaded worked this way--I could eat lunch with one hand, and scroll *slightly* with one finger of the other hand. Because it worked so well, I could fly through the pages.
There's also the case that some text cannot be resized...I would bet that there are apps for that!
Thanks,
Jim

An iPad would be better suited for that type of reading. Yeah, reading books on a iPhone is a real pain. Unfortunately, I don't have the buck to spend on an iPad, no matter how much I would like one.
I have not seen anything like a cursor or swipe acceleration app for the iPhone. I doubt that Apple would allow it as a third party app as it would need to change some of the basics of the iPhone.
The other text size and swiping issues sound to be on the source side of the coding. In other words, the author(s) chose the wrong software to write the text with.

The "stock" icons can't be removed, but they can be placed in a folder of
their own, which you can place where ever you want.

Not possible.
You can move it to the right-most screen, however.
Or put it in a folder with other things you can't remove.

I sure hope Apple realizes that it's better to just offer these unnecessary apps for free in the AppStore, as in iBooks, etc, rather than forcing them on everyone.

I suspect that Apple gets a fee for each of the third party apps that
are included in the default set.

I agree, I'd rather see it offered as a free app that I never download.
But if this is the worst thing forced on us, it is a big nothing.
Stuff it in a folder on the right most screen and forget it.
As far as RR's comment on Apple getting a cut of third party apps, that is true, just not of this app. It is an Apple app. That is why it can not be deleted. It just happens to use Yahoo's Finance feed. Apple didn't waste the money to duplicate the same info.

Carol,
Did you compare what's in the Cloud with each device? Hopefully, one will match. That will tell you the sync problem is likely to be with the other device.

Hi David:
I just sync'd both the ipad and iphone 4 to itunes, all are set up to sync to the cloud. Then I checked the cloud and it doesn't match either the iphone or ipad. I frequently sync both by plugging them into an outlet when they are set up for wifi, yet the ipad today told me it hadn't been sync'd since October.
Thanks for your help.

One more iPad question
Posted by: "Carol" floridabouvs@gmail.com floridabouvs
Mon Jan 2, 2012 12:14 pm (PST)
In trying to solve the calendar problem, I hooked up the iPad to the computer. It says administrator's iPad is sync'd with another iTunes library and can only be sync'd to one library at a time. It says I can erase and sync, or transfer purchases from iPad to iTunes library. iTunes does say it backs up to iCloud. My concern about making any of those choices is that I don't want to lose eBooks that I have bought. Is it safe to erase and sync, or transfer purchases?
Thanks,
Carol

More on ipad calendar question

Interesting that I just gave up and re-entered the calendar information on the iPhone that I had previously entered on the iPad. Then when I looked at the ipad, it suddenly had double the entries. So if I enter on the iPhone, it will show up on the iPad. But if I enter it on the iPad, it will not show up on the iPhone. Clearly I am missing a link here.

AT&T Data Plan
Posted by: "inphasefive" skirbyiphone@gmail.com inphasefive
Mon Jan 2, 2012 12:46 pm (PST)
I am setting up my 4S on AT&T and have not yet selected my data plan. I see that they have a DataPro plan (includes 2GB for $25) but does not include "mobile hotspot". I am from Canada and to my knowledge carriers here do not make that distinction. So, does this mean that the "Personal Hotspot" setting on the iPhone would be greyed out/disabled if I get the $25 DataPro plan and not the DataPro 4GB plan for $45?
I do want to use the "Personal Hotspot" occasionally and if I have to pay $20 extra I will, but of course would rather save the $20.
Thanks!

Welcome to AT&T! Yes, they want you to pay another $20 to tether or hotspot.
Check, you may be able to turn it on and off as needed. It may even be prorated for less than a month.
I can't use it, because I'm grandfathered into a so called unlimited plan.

if the AT&T hotspot plan is like the Verizon hotspot plan then yes, you can
turn it on/off as needed. both the data and cost are pro-rated but the data
consumed must balance against the time the feature is active. the VZW plan
is $20/2gb. i'm grandfathered with VZW for unlimited data but that does not
include the Mobile Broadband Connect (the official name for VZW's hotspot
feature). i've used the hotspot feature several times and it's worked out
very well.

Team,
Well.I can't remember when I was in the top 5% of anything.but AT&T sent me an email that I was in that range of usage around the 29th of December. (I am on unlimited)
They said they will start slowing my speeds next month if it happens again.
Or, I could buy a tiered plan and pay for speed.or go wifi.
I am staying with unlimited.
