If the internet connection is not good, it happens. There's a Setting for that so that the iPhone doesn't send it as SMS. I just hope Apple gives more options in the next update because I only want to not send SMS in case iMessage fails for international texts.

Subject: [apple-iphone] iMessage problem
My daughter just got an iPhone 4S from work. I also have a 4S. Whenever I send her a text it first seems to go out via iMessage, but when I look later, it says sent as a text message. I am in Vermont and she is in California. Could this make a difference? iMessages to my friends in state go out just fine.
Does anyone else see the same thing happening? What could be the problem? Does it matter that I have a WIFI connection as well as 3G? Seems unlikely.

Thanks for the reminder. I bet that is the problem. She's only had her phone a couple of weeks and is super busy. I texted her about the Settings. That should do the trick.
Thanks again,
Cathy

Her phone was on, so an Internet connection shouldn't be the problem. I think she didn't have iMessages turned on in Settings. At least I hope that was the problem. An easy fix.

Events on my calendar show up in triplicate. Does anyone know what setting is causing this? Thanks, Julie

Julie, it probably is due to the fact that 'somewhere' you have doubled or tripled the number of calendars. For instance, I used to have that problem and I was able to solve it by going into Outlook and deleting the extra calendars. Somewhere, you have those extra calendars...and it is just a matter of finding them and deleting them.

I use the calendar and I found that icloud had added other calendars. I go and untick all the extra calendars and the problem disappeared. Alma

Thank you, Now if I could find out why some calendar events won't sync phone to Mac. All are checked in iTunes and they used to sync.

IMessage "read"
Posted by: "Mark Mucher" mark.mucher@gmail.com smmucher
Tue Jan 17, 2012 5:25 am (PST)
I have one friend whose iMessages tell me when the ones I said were read, while most just say they were "delivered". (his does both)
He upgraded to iOS 5 and the others are a mix of upgrades and phones that came with 5
Knowing that a message is read is handy - anybody know the difference? Setting?
Thanks, Mark

It is a setting on the receiving iPhone: Settings> messages> Send Read
Receipts.

THANKS!
Mine was turned of and it was an upgrade - off must be the default.

Mine was also default off. I'm sure Apple does that for privacy reasons.

Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question but if you still have the box, the
S/N should be on it.

Did you ever register your IPod? Is this just an iPod or a touch? Does it have any wireless Internet capabilities. If it does you could check the Mac address from your routers information.

It is an ipod touch. Yes I registered it. I never thought to look online
for the info. Im not sure if I kept the boxes because we have 5 kids and
bought all 5 ipods at the same time 2 years ago.
Yes it has wifi also.

If you set it up, I think Apple's "Find My iPhone" works with iPod Touch also.

Not 100% certain but if you have "Find My Phone" setup on it... maybe
that will help.
Report it to the police as lost/stolen, your insurance company, etc.
You may not even have to get into "bob took it" but that it is gone from
a backpack or whatever.
At a minimum you need a police report for the insurance and any other
possible actions you may or may not want to take in the future.
-- Things with kids can get messy, but just try to think of this in an
adult, professional manner. The calm steps you would take if something
was taken from your business. Or your car taken from a downtown garage.
I'm not saying this well, but just do the steps to report, etc. Your
children seeing you take those calm steps will teach them how to step
back, get control and handle things in the future.
Keep us informed.
