kode80 LLC has announced the release of GLSL Studio 1.02. This second update brings the ability to import 3D objects from a number of different file formats, in-editor code completion and vertex data export. GLSL Studio is the first fully featured OpenGL programming environment for iOS enabling graphics/game developers to work on GPU code and effects directly on their iOS devices while also providing a safe and easy environment for aspiring developers to learn through experimentation.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida - kode80 LLC has announced the release of GLSL Studio 1.02, the second update to it's fully featured OpenGL programming environment for iOS. GLSL Studio brings serious GPU programming abilities to iOS allowing graphics coders to work on the go and filling a gap in the App Store productivity library.

GLSL Studio 1.02 introduces 3D model import enabling developers and artists to test shader programs on their own 3D models directly in the app. A number of different file formats are supported including .OBJ .PLY and .MD2. Importing 3D models into GLSL Studio is made simple with iTunes File Sharing. The GLSL Studio code editor also sees a significant update in 1.02 gaining full code completion. As you type, GLSL keywords, function names and more are suggested along the top of the keyboard acting as a language guide and adding significant typing shortcuts. When exporting shader programs, GLSL Studio now also exports the current vertex data as a static array .h file making it even easier to quickly integrate and test in off-device projects.

GLSL (OpenGL Shader Language) is a GPU programming language used by most modern portable devices and new technologies such as WebGL. GLSL programs are run directly on the graphics hardware allowing full control over how geometry and pixels are processed. GLSL Studio not only enables the creation, editing and compilation of shader programs but also exposes device capabilities such as multi-touch and live video streaming to them allowing for things such as realtime video filters to be created.

Aimed at both novice and expert developers alike, GLSL Studio provides a safe and easy environment for experimenting with GPU programs requiring nothing more than an iOS device. Various example programs ranging in complexity are included giving new programmers lots of material to learn from and expert programmers a starting point for their own programs. Circles, diamonds, ovals, rectangles, semi-circles, squares, triangles, trapezoids, and triangles are explained and identified.

It is designed for children ages 2-6. Illustrated by Joyce Hesselberth, PrestoBingo Shapes takes a modern approach to app design.

PrestoBingo Shapes provides an introduction to geometry for children. Circles, diamonds, ovals, rectangles, semi-circles, squares, triangles, trapezoids, and triangles are explained and identified. Each screen presents a different shape-finding puzzle and kids are verbally and visually prompted to click on the shapes. Animations throughout the app explain geometric forms concisely, and encourage children to see shapes in a unique way. When prompted for more information, the apps narration explains, " A trapezoid is a triangle with the top cut off. It can be a tent in the woods, or a lampshade, or a ship sailing away."

The premiss for designing this app was the simple idea that we can find shapes everywhere. As creator Joyce Hesselberth explains, "A square isn't just a square. It's a present, a building, a jack-in-the-box, a window. Sometimes it's even something silly, like my brother's head, or a balloon that's not quite right. Shapes are everywhere."

As shapes are discovered, they are counted as well, reinforcing numbers from 1 to 20.

10- and 14-yr Old Girls Create iPad Ebook - Fuzzy Wuzzy and Other Tails - Published on 02/02/12

Two girls, connected through technology, worked together to produce an interactive, animated ebook for children, Fuzzy Wuzzy and Other Tails 1.0, available now for the iPad and iPhone. In addition to Fuzzy Wuzzy, their story includes Chubby Wubby, Lucky Ducky, Lovey Dovey, Swimmy Kimmy, and more. Using Gimp, a free graphic design program, combined with animation tools for ebook creation at TaleSpring, these girls created the book based on the old rhyme.

American Fork, Utah - Two girls, ages 10 and 14, have published Fuzzy Wuzzy and Other Tails, a new interactive, animated ebook for the iPad and iPhone. Sarah Izatt (age 10), the author, connected with Megan Young (age 14), the illustrator, through My Tech High, an online charter school program that helps youth gain marketable technology skills. Using Gimp, a free graphic design program, combined with animation tools for ebook creation at TaleSpring, these girls created the book based on the old rhyme, "Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear...". Their story includes such characters as Chubby Wubby, Lucky Ducky, Lovey Dovey, Swimmy Kimmy, and more!

Sarah's story began with a visit from her Grandad who shared the original fuzzy wuzzy poem with her. Not too long after, she had prepared a little book made with stapled pieces of paper that not only included the original fuzzy wuzzy bear, but new verses about other animals. At the suggestion of her father, founder of TaleSpring, she began the work of refining the verses in preparation of making it into a TaleSpring interactive ebook.

Sarah's father knew Matt Bowman, founder of My Tech High. Megan attended My Tech High for 2 years before moving from Utah to Arizona. Believing her to be a great fit for the project, Matt contacted Megan, and she and Sarah were introduced via email and later through Skype. Over the course of 4 months, Megan created the beautiful illustrations and animated characters that went into Fuzzy Wuzzy.

At the end of the ebook, both Sarah and Megan shared a short audio bio in which they tell readers about their experience in creating the book.

On launch in landscape orientation, the app displays a scrolling list of ten different greeting cards from one of six categories. Most of the screen displays the chosen card, and there are two buttons in the bottom tab bar, Add Photo and Add Text. The cards feature beautiful artwork designed to touch the heart of the recipient. Each card includes a printed greeting, e.g., "I Miss You," or "Happy Valentine's Day," and a thematic, custom shaped mask or frame.

Touching the Add Photo button lets the user select any photo from their Camera Roll, Photo Album, or Photo Library. Controls are included to increase or decrease the photo's size, and rotate it incrementally either clockwise or counter clockwise. The Add Text button allows the card creator to compose his or her own, special message, which can be displayed in the user's own handwriting or an italic typeface. When finished, three buttons give the user access to the app's integrated Facebook, Twitter, and email connectivity to easily share their customized card. A fourth button allows the user to save the newly created card. Designing a truly personalized eCard for any occasion is quick and simple and produces a memorable keepsake that will be treasured by the recipient.

"It's time to get on the race car and live a great adventure: escaping tsunamis, zombies, meteorites, motorcycle gangs and many events happening at this very moment on the Twitter social network," said the Tweet Land team from Costa Rica.

The game was officially launched on January 30th in San Jose, in a meeting with the press and special guests in the historical building Antigua Aduana, from the Costa Rican Ministry of Culture and Youth.

With a combination of retro images and a lively original soundtrack, Tweet Land is a game where you get a different experience everytime you play it, and it changes according to the conversations being held online. It is the before and after of videogames, in which social networks come to life and feed a parallel world. Do you dare to live this experience?

Everything that people say around the world in the famous microblogging network affects the game scenes. Although the tweets are responsible for developing the game, you do not need a Twitter account to play.

"We want to go further. We want to reinvent real-time gaming and give life to social experiences that occur every day from real live people. Route 140 is the first step", they said.

It will soon be the turn of Love City, the second game of the series where, in a city full of people, a huge anti-care bear will defend itself from suffocating hugs. His defense will be a weapon that is loaded with "hate-tweets".

HogFrog is a simple, one-touch game where the player takes on the role of Tore, a young frog who is in love with the pond mafia boss' daughter, Rosina. The player takes control of Tore, and through various levels in different ponds must use his tongue to catch all the mosquitoes. The game comes with four different styles of pond, each containing ten levels.

Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom - Turkish developers, DreamHarvesters have teamed up with MutinySoft LLC to bring their mobile game HogFrog, to the iPhone market. HogFrog is a simple, one-touch game, where the player takes on the role of Tore, a young frog who is in love with the pond mafia boss' daughter, Rosina. Her father doesn't like Tore, as he never has any mosquitoes, and down on the pond, your worth is measured by how many of the little critters you have.

The player takes control of Tore, and through various levels in different ponds, must use his tongue to catch all the mosquitoes. Even though players have multiple chances on each level, each one can be completed by just one flick of the tongue, gaining the maximum points available.

The game comes with four different styles of pond, each containing ten levels. As the player progresses through the levels they will face various challenges, such as turtles that make Tore's tongue rebound, smaller poisonous frogs that stop Tore's tongue dead, and rotating logs which can be used to the players advantage as well as cause hindrance.

Welcome to Umotion 2D, this is a tool designed to help you create animations and to export them directly into a graphical or videogame engine. When we designed Umotion 2D we wanted to make a tool that can be used for more general animation and not only for skeletal animations. As a matter of fact, with Umotion 2D you can easily produce skeletal, GUI and background animations. Most of you will probably think that the best way to create 2D animations is that of building a sprite sequence (or spritesheets) and you'd probably be right.

Creating animations using sprite sequences can be quick and easy, the artist needs only to give you the individual frames of the animation and that makes your life easy. But ... After a while you'll realize that using this technique the game needs a lot of memory, takes a lot of time and a lot of work. On top of that you will be dramatically limited in terms of animation complexity, and your project will be limited in character size.

This is where skeletal animation comes in; Skeletal animation and specifically Umotion 2D is a tool in computer animation in which a character is represented as a hierarchical set of interconnected bones or images. Composing different transformations on each image you will build different poses for the object of your animation. This process is very intuitive and the same technique can be used to control the deformation of any object, a GUI, a character or a background.

You can Think of Umotion 2D as a 3D tool highly optimized to manage 2D skeletal animations. In fact Umotion 2D exports the 3D animation data and texture Atlas optimized for 2D projects in Unity ( or other video game engines). Luke's Escape is a challenging and original game. With levels almost 7 times the screen size. This game will test your patience and timing to the max. The level's will get increasingly more difficult and you'll have to adapt your thinking to figure out how to get out, as the level present new challenges as they progress. Just find the key to unlock the door, but it may not be easy.

You must be quick in making your move into the passages cause there may be fire waiting right under you. Navigating through the level is done by pressing the right and left arrow to move and then pressing any 2 areas of the screen to switch gravity from the floor to ceiling. You're going to want to be moving in forward motion and quickly switch gravity to angle across the fire pits, you could also inch up and/or use the half speed to get the the edge and make the leap. It's also important to remember which way not to go, with numerous directions you can head the way you think may not always be right. Once you find the key you must be even more careful not to fall in the fire or you will be sent to the beginning of the level and have to navigate to the key once again.

Managing Editor Inc. today announced that Boston-based WGBH has purchased the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite along with specialized training services from MEI, the leading Adobe DPS reseller worldwide. WGBH is using Adobe DPS to produce the iPad edition of Explore!, the organization's monthly magazine for members and public media's first program guide designed especially for tablets. The groundbreaking first iPad issues of Explore! earned the app the award for "Best Publication".

Jenkintown, Pennsylvania - Managing Editor Inc. (MEI) today is pleased to announce that Boston-based WGBH has purchased the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite(TM) along with specialized training services from MEI, the leading Adobe DPS reseller worldwide.

WGBH is using Adobe DPS, the preeminent solution for Adobe InDesign(R)-based tablet publishing, to produce the iPad edition of Explore!, the organization's monthly magazine for members and public media's first program guide designed especially for tablets. The groundbreaking first iPad issues of Explore! earned the app the award for "Best Publication" at The Ad Club's NON-Event last week.

Serving Boston and New England with seven television services and three radio stations, WGBH is also the Public Broadcasting Service's single largest provider of television and Web content, as well as an NPR/PRI radio broadcaster and producer. It creates such public TV favorites as "Nova," "Masterpiece," "Frontline," "Antiques Roadshow," "Curious George," "Arthur" and "The Victory Garden" in its Boston-area studios, and develops educational multimedia and specialized technologies for people with disabilities as well.

For years, WGBH has provided its members with a magazine featuring television and radio listings, broadcast highlights and more. In addition to delivering live, up-to-the minute schedule information for WGBH's programming, the Explore! app builds on the print guide's content with exclusive videos, interactive feature stories and behind-the-scenes extras.

The Explore! team began researching a tablet-publishing solution in late 2010. The print product and its online replication had only basic, flat layouts with few opportunities for interactivity, and the group was looking to expand, especially considering the wealth of PBS- and producer-provided promotional and marketing video at its disposal.

"We have always produced a great print guide, and we were ready to take the next step with our videos and other multimedia content," said Steve Baker, senior director of creative projects at WGBH. "We had been looking for a new, innovative way to promote all of our assets. When the iPad came along, it seemed like a perfect platform."

Baker said Adobe DPS was an especially attractive solution since Explore! magazine's designers were already proficient with InDesign; using the same software with extra features for creating tablet content made the most sense.

"We looked at other tools, but I just wasn't sold that they rendered issues as well as DPS and that they had a strong business backbone like Adobe," he said. "Tablet publishing is such a new area, we really wanted to work with someone we could trust and count on."

Baker and his designers started working with Adobe DPS during the software's beta-testing period. They used the system to build a small test publication and, after honing the app's layouts and interactive content, started showing it internally. Once they felt confident with Adobe DPS, WGBH approved funding for a larger-scale iPad project and purchased a full Enterprise-level system with an advanced training package from MEI.

"The training went very well," Baker said. "It was interesting to see all of the software's functionality work together beyond what we had tested on our own."

WGBH released its first full issue of Explore! to the iTunes App Store in December 2011. This "soft launch" built on the print version by including video and dynamic program listings. The January 2012 issue boasts much more exclusive interactive content and specialized features including additional video, audio and photo galleries.

"People are very excited to use Explore! on their iPads," Baker said. "Program guides haven't changed much over the years. Our audience is happy that we're adapting to the modern viewer's needs."

And the Explore! app isn't only impressing WGBH's members. It recently won the "Best Publication" category at The Ad Club's NON-Event, an awards show celebrating New England-area non-profits and their creative work. Baker said that since there was no award specifically for iPad or tablet content, he took a chance submitting the app for "Best Publication" - and he's especially happy with the results.

"I was glad, not only that we won, but that they were open to what must have been their first-ever iPad publication entry," he said.
