Howdy.
I could have gotten an unlimited texting plan via ATT Wireless but I
don't text that much. Texting began to increase just a bit so I went
to a 200 messages per month extra $5.00 per month add on cost for
texting.
However, it's important to remember that it per each text so if you I
go over the 200 messages it costs .40 cents for a pair of messages and
that can add up fast.

You have a smartphone that is capable of running apps. There are plenty of
free apps that provide free texting.
No need to pay for it! I use TextFree on all my iPhones/Androids. You get
a free phone number that you give others to send texts to you. Or, with
Android's deep integration with Google Voice, just use GV.

I use an RSS aggregator (Reeder) to collect dozens of blogs on multiple subjects so I can skim them and read the relevant ones. It's a lot less work than going to each site individually.

No problem here, but I installed from the Combo updater right off the bat. That has become my standard practice.

I don't know what their problem is -- certainly any major update can cause problems if care is not taken.
I make sure my Time Machine backups are current.
I make a fresh clone backup.
I run Repair Permissions in Disk Utility.
I shut down as many running programs as is practicable.
THEN I run the *Combo* updater.
Reboot (sometimes a Safe Boot/reboot), then run Repair Permissions again.
So far, no problems with 10.7.3

Oh Oh! Well maybe I was lucky with this one as I have not had any problems yet, however, I did have a problem with an earlier update for the Airport Express utilities in that the update went okay, but the program eliminated two parts of the previous version the ability to print through WiFi and a side band for guest to use. I had to back track but that caused problems also as I ended up with the new version of Airport Utilities and the older version. To further aggravate the situation, I could not totally delete the newer version because it would mess up the integrity of the OS. Go figure!! So now I have a dead icon of the newer update that I cannot delete. I did call Apple on this and they readily admitted that they eliminated parts of the program because they figured everybody would be going to air print or whatever they call it.

Re: iPhone - iMessage Question
Posted by: "Roger Harris" skunktown@gmail.com robo_booger

Sorry to be flogging a dead horse here, but...
As has been pointed out - the proprietary Apple messaging system is sent as data. A question:
Is it a true statement that if (for whatever reason) the message cannot be delivered as data (blue), it will be delivered as an SMS (green)?
Recently in Belgium, I had trouble texting with my brother-in-law who lives there. We both have iphone 4S w/ios5. I had Data Roaming - OFF (because I don't have an international data plan and I understand that I could get some unexpected charges on my bill). He had it on. I had Cellular Data - ON and Voice Roaming - ON. I was able to send him messages, that appeared green on my phone. I was able to receive a phone call from him. I was unable to receive messages from him until I briefly turned on my Data Roaming and then his messages came in (grey) with the sender as xxx@me.com. I didn't try texting anybody else for a more complete explanation, but --- can anybody explain that?
Thx, Roger
